Great news about Hayley and Ennio, This news has been the highlight of my otherwise disastrous week.. My favourite singer and one of my all time favourite composers, Together. The kind of thing you might have asked Santa to bring you, but would not really have expected him to be able to deliver. It has put a smile on my face a few times this week.. Something to look forward to, with pleasant anticipation..

Do you all really think this is not Hayley's international album, and there won't be a tour? Some of you seem to think that it's somehow going to be a disappointment after all. I'm still sticking to my assessment on the previous page.

She told me her next album is an international album. She also told me she's planning on a pretty "international" tour next year.
She's working with Ennio for her next album.
I'm not sure what the discussion is here. Seems pretty obvious. *confused*

Yes, Nicola, you are right, this is a huge honour for Hayley. It has no doubt been on the cards for longer than we realised when I think about it. Is that why the Buxton concert was postponed (several months ago), she knew she would be in Rome recording at that time? (yes speculation again I know).
Oh, and Grant, I have sometimes been pretty accurate with my speculations, as with predicting the release date of HSJS2 within a week 6 months beforehand, and almost getting the name of the album right.
My earlier comments were made because we had been led to believe that Hayley had been spending most of her time since mid February writing songs, and writing not just lyrics but music also using piano and guitar. She had made it sound like a solo effort. Atrue singer-songwriter album. I think that was what I was expecting. And since I love Hayley own songs, that was what I was looking forward to.
And yes, it is quite possible that Hayley has written lyrics to some of Morricone's intrumental pieces, lyric writing is what she is good at. Perhaps she still needs a bit of help with the music though. And she has chosen a very good source for that help.
I didn't mean it in any negative way, and I am hugely looking forward to the album. I am a fan of Ennio Morricone's music after all, and the idea of Hayley working with him is very exciting. When I wrote my earlier post, it seemed as if this was a sudden change in direction regarding the album. Hence the delayed recording date. After all, it wouldn't be the first time, it happened with Pure, it was the right decision and look how succesful that was.
But on reflection, perhaps not, perhaps this was always the plan, perhaps this is what Hayley was so excited about all along.
BTW in view of this, I now think the new album will qualify as classical. It might well be her most classical album yet! And as I said in the chat last Friday, I would not be surprised to see it win best album at next year's Classical Brits. Here's hoping!
And yes, this is even more speculation. Let's wait and see!!

Hmm... I personally think that you are all right. I mean, (speculating too), that Hayley has been composing and writing songs lately, then she has sent them to Ennio (or maybe someone else) to get advice and maybe some corrections and arrengements, and I think those songs by Hayley will be featured in her album (I have the idea she's always worked like that in her co-writing, maybe I am wrong, but it seems to have sense to me). Then, there could be some original songs written by Ennio itself for Hayley and then some other songs he has written in the past. Wow, if all these was made true in one album it would be truyly a colosal album, and I am sure whatever Hayley does, there won't be any disappointment.

Hi all, For those who still aren't sure, what is known is that: It's a Hayley album, Therefore she must feature on every track, It's themed on the music of Ennio Morricone, An International release, With no doubt all the usual promo activities in Hayley's major markets. Anything beyond that is speculative and I for one am happy to let the details emerge as the year goes by, as much of it either won't have been finalised yet, or could change. We certainly can't assume that it will be aimed at the UK classical charts as has been speculated (and it wouldn't concern me too much if it isn't). This kind of collaboration takes a long time to set up and implement, it could well be a year or so between its conception and release, which might explain why Winter Magic was never promoted - think about it. I just hope that Decca are going to dig deep into their pockets for it but the signs so far are good. Dave

I'm not sure what the discussion is here. Seems pretty obvious. *confused* Thank you, Nicola, your comment has reassured me greatly. The others were worrying me there for a minute. When I read the article, I never got the impression that it wouldn't be her own international album, and that she wouldn't tour for it. The thought never occurred to me, and I have no idea why they think that way. So, I think I'll take Grant's advice and "stick to my beliefs" because I think I'm pretty close, at least the part about the Ennio Morricone songs. So, Dave, do you think it's going to be separate from her main, international album? Hayley indicated that it might be out in November, so do you think she's working on 2 albums, 1 for November, and one that's going to take another year? She never said she was making 2 albums. And she told Nicola the album she was working on, with Ennio Morricone, should probably be out by November. What about the date the article gives, of October 2010, and the date she told you, November? Of course, I realize the date is in no way confirmed yet, so how do they think they know it'll be Oct.? Did they ask Hayley or Decca, or make that up themselves? I think one thing is for certain: Hayley won't disappoint us.

Hi Libby, There is one album, the Morricone "International" one, for release this year (but it will have been first discussed sometime last year). The release date will be decided by Decca and they often change right upto the last minute, so all we can say really is "later in the year". However, I will just point out that Ennio's 82nd birthday is on Wednesday 10th. November this year, which may or may not be relevant. The Battle of Britain ended in October 1940 so that too could be relevant, in other words, "later this year!". Cheers, Dave

Hi everyone
Thanks Dave for trying to explain the likely position over Hayley's new album. I must admit that I wasn't at all clear, as I was under the impression that her next album was going to move away from the Classical. From what you are saying, it looks like the album will be classical after all. I haven't heard of Ennio Morricone (hope my spelling is correct) so although I had heard that she was working with this person, I was none the wiser as to the sort of music we could expect. I guess we will have to wait and see!!
Will this be the last of the five Decca albums? If so, I would hope that they will throw some money at it - some TV advertising along the lines of 'Pure' would be a good idea.
Best wishes Mark

I'm really surprised, Mark! Especially as you work with a film composer! XD
A massive name in film music and as a composer in general. He has a lot of presence in classical crossover music aswell as many artists use his music. I think the fact that he is on board alone will generate mountains of interest that otherwise wouldn't have been obtained. He filled up the Royal Albert Hall only a few months ago! XD

Hi everyone, I think this is great news! Ennio's beautiful music and Hayley's wonderful voice! I'm very looking forward to this! Maybe it could be some sort of collaboration like this: Ennio's CD "Focus" from 2003, was a collaboration with Dulce Pontes, a female Portuguese singer. www.amazon.co.uk/Focus-Dulce-Pontes/dp/B0000E5PEE/ref=pd_ybh_1?pf_rd_p=138755991&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_t=1501&pf_rd_i=ybh&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=1KCBCJ921WG83QDAGQ73All the tracks were composed by Ennio, some originally for Dulce Pontes, with lyrics by Dulce (at least the ones she sings in Portuguese), she sings all the tracks, most of them in Portuguese, one in Italian and three or four in English. My problem with this CD is that I don't like Dulce Pontes's voice, and for me she butchered Ennio's beautiful music! But with Hayley's voice, I think it could be fantastic. I read that Dulce Pontes had performed live with Ennio Morricone in some countries, Portugal, UK , Poland, Italy, etc, they recorded a DVD too (Ennio Morricone (2005)- DVD Arena di Verona). Best wishes, Paulo Correia

Hi Nicola
Thanks for bringing me up to date! I now understand a little better the significance of this partnership and the additional exposure it could bring for Hayley. I guess I had better 'google' the name to learn more.
Best wishes Mark

... I was under the impression that her next album was going to move away from the Classical. From what you are saying, it looks like the album will be classical after all. Hi Mark, No no, I didn't say that - it was Martin D who said he thought it would qualify for the classical chart - and I said no, you can't assume that (because we don't know!). Some orchestral film theme music (of which Ennio has written a lot) is considered to be "classical" for charts purposes, but a lot of it isn't, so we just don't know. You should Google him and some of his songs! I bet you know "Nella Fantasia" (based on The Mission) and "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" from waaaaaaay back in my youth! Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave
Thanks for the clarification - again!! Yes, of course I know The Good, Bad & The Ugly and I am sure I will know a few of his other songs from what you have said, I have just not heard of the man himself. Funnily enough, I am fairly familiar with films from the 1960s and before - but since then, I have hardly watched any films - only going to the cinema twice in the last 30 odd years doesn't help either!
Anyway, now I know the sort of music he can produce, I am very excited and it could well be non classical, which I really hope that it is - as in my humble view and personally speaking, some of Hayley's best tracks are the non classical ones. For example, some of her UK concerts during last year had not one classical track in them, which seems to all lead to her moving more towards the sort of music that perhaps she herself wants to be singing. Its great stuff and I can't wait for the new album now.
Best wishes Mark
