As to the content of this album, I am hoping it will have at least two or more tracks of Hayley's own material and Hayley's own material used with the right promotions. Decca are going to have to give this one their all to make any success out of it and it is a well known fact. cheers all, Two or more?! Hayley wrote 3 or 4 of her own songs on both Treasure and Winter Magic, and she has indicated that she wants her albums to have more original songs on them. So, I would hope there'd be more than 2 this time. As far as originality goes, she wouldn't be making much progress if she did fewer original songs than her previous albums had. One thing I've never quite understood is why she hardly ever sings her own songs at concerts. She wrote Summer Rain, Let Me Lie, Melancholy Interlude, and Le Note del Silenzio for Treasure. They were among the best songs on the whole album, yet she almost never sang any of them in concert, with the exception of Let Me Lie for her 2008 NZ tour. Why couldn't she have sung those songs more at her UK concerts? Did she or Decca think nobody liked them enough?? Thankfully, she did sing Peace Shall Come on her Winter Magic tour, and that was great. So, there's another reason more original songs would be good, because then she'd be much more likely to sing them live. She recorded WM in August and released it in November. So, if she begins recording at the beginning of April, couldn't it be ready by at least August? And why is summer any worse for releasing albums than Christmastime is? Not everyone's on vacation for the whole summer. Those that are could just pre-order.

Hello Juliette and everyone, As Hayley's new message on her official site is the first formal confirmation of the new album, I'll requote the relevant parts of it here: Hayley has just posted a new message on her official site: Cheers, Dave

This is in response to Martin's last reply in the "Hayley's message on the official site" thread, seen here: That's true Martin, but if Hayley's just about to start recording, I would think she has a lot of the songs ready. I hope we don't have to wait till November again. I don't like that, because there's always so many other albums competing for sales and charts at the same time. Remind me again what month Pure was released in the UK? I'm pretty sure it wasn't November or December, and it was her most successful album. One last thing: I don't often read horoscopes, nor really believe in them, but every once in a while I take a peek. The one in the Seattle Times today for Aries (Hayley's "sign") said "You're creating a product that others will appreciate for its simplicity and charm." That does sound an awful lot like what Hayley could be doing.

Hello Libby! If I remember correctly, 'Pure' was released in the UK on 15th September 2003. It entered the UK album chart at No.8 the following week, and stayed in the top twenty for the rest of the year. Richard

See, albums aren't only successful at Christmastime, particularly if they're extra special albums like Pure. I don't know if her new album could do as well as Pure, but hopefully it'll come really close. I think September is a possibility. As someone else mentioned (probably Martin) I think the only reason it won't be released in the summer is because of the concerts, which would take away from promotion time.

Yes, we waited a long time for her second album. At the time it seemed like forever. And it was first played in our motorhome on a holiday. On this occasion I remember it well, on 30th September 2005, when we were staying at the Caravan Club site at Dulverton, Somerset, on the edge of Exmoor. My holiday journal reads:
"We returned to the Bridge (a pub) for steak and chips. Afterwards, we returned to the van to listen to the new Hayley Westenra album, Odyssey, which I had bought on CD a couple of days earlier, but not yet listened to properly. It is beautiful."
Ah, the memories! I always remember the first time I heard a Hayley album. Winter Magic too (Japanese version), was first listened to in our motorhome (a different one) on a site above Three Cliffs Bay, a place more properly associated with Katherine Jenkins, who promoted the view from there as "Britain's Favourite view". Until recently it was the background on my Twitter page.

I'm getting pretty excited about the new album already! And impatient! So I decided to do something about that by making my own fake cover art for the release. I called it 'A Kiss in a Dream' from the lyric in 'Listen to the Wind'. I had a bit of fun with the tracklisting! The first track is made up, but the rest are songs I like. I would expect that Hayley's eventual effort will be much more original than mine, but it was still fun thinking of tracks. I wonder if I have got any of them right? Maybe 'I Know You By Heart'? lol But we know that Hayley is already aware we like that one! :rollin

Hi everyone,
The more I look at my above effort, the more I think that the album Hayley will produce won't be much like the above. I don't know, but I have a feeling the next album might have a more sophisticated feel to it ... perhaps Caruso and Baracolle fit in with my imagined idea. The front cover would have Hayley in an evening gown on it -- interestingly something she's never done before.
By the way, I have no basis for the above... it is just a whimsical musing of mine! That said, I would love to hear Hayley sing some of the songs I have on my track listing! Even though it would probably make Nicola die, as it is a very generic Classical Crossover tracklisting! I'd buy it though.... :rollin

Yes, I agree, nice effort Jillian but almost certainly wide of the mark. I'd buy it too,I'll buy anything by Hayley, but after the build up we've had, I would be disappointed if it wasn't much more original.
Barcarolle is a nice idea especially if she recorded it as a duet with Dame Malvina. And I Know you by Heart is probable. But we also expect several new Hayley compositions, and they could be called anything! Might even accompany herself on guitar on one of them!

Hi Martind, Yes, I imagine (and hope) that there will be a lot more original tracks ... but I figured that me making a fake tracklisting of made up songs might be a little boring! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif I wonder if this album will make an attempt to classify for the classical charts? I had a look through most of the classical crossover albums on Itunes and it almost seems like Hayley has recorded all the 'standards' except the ones above (well, she's recorded 3 of them). You have to wonder what is left. There's always the option of adapting classical music pieces with lyrics. Or delving more into pieces uncharted by the classical crossover set. Or even not attempting to qualify for the classical charts.... Whatever Hayley does, I'm sure we'll be blown away! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifCheers, Jillian

I don't think she will or should do Caruso. It's too fast, and wouldn't show off her voice very well, except for the chorus. That's the problem with that song. That's the one song by Josh Groban I don't like, because he sounds great in the middle part, but the fast parts sound like blithering. Andrea Bocelli's sounds a lot smoother. I noticed you included a few of our suggestions from the other thread. I'm also hoping for My Lagan Love sometime.
