Well I'm. . . surprised--I was going to use another English colloquialism but remembered in time it has a rude connotation in American English!--the same thought occurred to me at the time I was typing my reply! You are beginning to get to know me quite well! Peter S.

Hello everyone... there is more to this edition of Woman's Hour than we may have realised! Hayley should feel really honoured to be invited into this programme... it's the 60th Anniversary of a programme that's been going since 1946 when even I wasn't around!
I shall certainly be recording this programme and I will extract and I (or someone) will make available the best (Hayley!) bits extracted from either the BBC's own podcast or my/our own recordings.
Many thanks to Grant for starting this thread... and Richard, I've changed the title too... to make it look even more important!
Cheers, Dave

Hello Dave! I hate to pull you up on your mathematics, but surely for this to be Woman's Hour's 60th Anniversary, the programme must have started in 1946, which was before you were born (just)! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI don't think I've ever listened to the programme before, but I've got my Walkman radio with me so I will be listening this afternoon. Best Wishes, Richard

I'd better nip back up the thread and fix my post before Roger sees it and sacks me but I'll leave the incriminating evidence in yours 'coz you won't then be able to prove it and I'll deny it all! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI have to admit that like you, I don't often listen to this programme, though I have done so on a handful of occasions over the years, mainly to find out what this "National Institution" is all about... or to listen to Hayley. I shall do so once again, this afternoon. Jeff, Northern Ireland are playing in Denmark today... (don't tell Andrew I said that! ) and yes, I'm sure they postponed the start time of the England match to maximise Hayley's audience this afternoon! Cheers, Dave

Hello Dave, Roger and everybody! I thoroughly enjoyed Hayley's performance on Woman's Hour's 60th Anniversary show this afternoon. If anybody didn't hear it, I'll keep you in suspense for the moment, because I'm sure clips will appear here before too long. Best Wishes, Richard

No sooner said than done... here is: Hayley 'live' on Woman's Hour The clip is just under 8 minutes long, is 90% Hayley, 64kbps Windows Media Audio 9; and the file size is 3.65 MB. I've posted it here for now as I'm not sure when Simon will be able to upload it to the main site. I thoroughly enjoyed it - though I do have a slight bone to pick with the BBC audio engineers, this is an example I think of a sound set-up mainly for speech but for 'live' music, a bit of added reverb wouldn't have been amiss. Come on BBC, get it right! Hayley did! Cheers, Dave

Well done Dave! You've just proved that great minds think alike. I was listening to the programme live, and as soon as Hayley started singing 'Ave Maria' I immediately thought a bit of reverb was needed on the vocal. However, it was still a great performance, and it was good to hear Ian Tilley and Fiona Pears again. Best Wishes, Richard
