Hello Ross! I saw a message that the video is only available in New Zealand, but then it played perfectly here in London. Dame Motormouth strikes again! Richard

Dame Motormouth strikes again! Richard So did the silly old moo actually get an award at the CBA last week??? 'Cos I haven't seen one single word written about it - Seen plenty about Hayley's fabulous dresses and jewellery though i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI would like to think that 'someone' had the idea of adorning Hayley with her jewels and then publicising it, specifically to attract attention away from "The Other Kiwi" Or is that being just a bit too bitchy?? Best wishes Grant

Hello Grant! Dame Kiri was presented with the Lifetime Achievement award at the Classical BRITs, to be shown on ITV1 at 10:35pm this evening. All the celebrities in the arena gave her a standing ovation, but very few people in the audience bothered. That said a lot, in my opinion. Richard

I wonder if Kiri has ever listened to Hayley sing live... a Hayley-therapy certainly would help, at least a little.

Well, we all have our opinions about BGT, X-Factor and the likes, but what's this about her dismissing Hayley's talents? Is there a thread about that, because I don't believe I've seen it.

I think it's really sad that someone as widely reknowned and respected as Dame Kiri should come out with such unmitigated nonsense. She's just insulted not just Susan Boyle but also Paul Potts, who clearly has real ability, and Faryl Smith, who may just be the most talented singer of her generation. Not to mention the many gifted people who've come out of the Idol shows around the world.
If only Dame Kiri's attitude to other performers could be a match for her undoubted ability.
It always makes me sad when people at the very top of their profession are nasty about those who aren't. It not only shows a meanness of spirit that is unbecoming, but it often makes them look foolish, too.

I never heard of this woman..only saw her name on this forum sometimes. But it seems this lady dislikes other classical singers, except herself.
Is she an expert or something???

Come to think of it... Hayley recorded "I feel pretty", that Dame Kiri did in the "original" album (but not the original song from the movie), and I think Hayley's voice and performance was much better for the sense of the song. But then, Hayley gets attacked by Kiri.
Now, it seems that Susan Boyle has performed/recorded a song that Dame Kiri has also sung in the past. Although I haven't listened properly to any of the versions of the song, I think I would prefere Kiri's version, but I wonder if that has something to do with the attack.

I remember reading, and I can't remember where, a couple of weeks ago about another outburst of Dame Kiri's, the gist of which was that you can never be a good singer if you are slim. She was saying that you need to be a large lady to have a good voice. I wish I could remember where I saw it, but I felt at the time it was another dig at Hayley, Faryl, Camilla etc. I actually found a reference to it twitter at twitter.com/kirionline, but the link didn't work due t exhuasted bandwidth. That twitter account seems to have lots of statements by Dame Kiri of a similar ilk. If she doesn't like Hayley and the rest, that is her privilege, but I wish she wouldn't bad mouth them like that. I know which I prefer, even though I enjoyed seeing Dame Kiri live a few years back. I would be very surprised if Dame Kiri joined with those singers in the karaoke at the CBA after show party. Sharon - Dame Kiri is New Zealand's most famous Opera singer and one of the best in the world in the past few years. But unfortunately she has a high opinion of herself and other opera singers compared to other musicians. Irish-Hayley-fan Dame Kiri had a lot to say about Hayley 2 years ago. Here is a link to the thread hwi.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=Media&thread=808&post=13383

Well, her comments have, once again, been taken out of context. She was in an interview about her new talent show which is about real opera, and then the journo asked her about the X-Factor.
Kiri actually has a point (actually, she usually does) and this is a world of free speech, but she gives her opinion so maliciously and with so much disdain that she does more harm than good to the opera world. If she hates X-Factor and crossover so much, why does she record with them? She recorded with Rhydian less than a year ago, and she recorded 'The Flower Duet' with Katherine Jenkins. It's a bit disgusting that she uses them to up her profile (you can bet that more people have heard of KJ in the UK than of Kiri) and to fatten her pockets, but then shows nothing but contempt for what they do.
I will add that I do agree that comparing Susan Boyle to what Kiri does is a bit on the stupid/ignorant side. She simply didn't need to react that way, though.
I've heard both good and bad reports about her behaviour from people that have met/know her. Quite frankly, I don't care either way. I'm not interested in her professionally nor personally.

Hi Nicola,
And I understand you went to bed during the CBA broadcast, just before Kiri received her award and sang. And yes I watched it and she is still a very fine singer.
I don't think she will ever forgive Hayley for recording West Side Story. I wonder what went on with her at the CBA after show party. Did she totally snub all those crossover singers? So she could only talk to Raimondo, and perhaps Angela? I think Raimondo though, seems a little more broad minded.

Do you mean Rolando? Or am I missing a big name I've ever heard of. If you do mean Rolando - yes, I think he's genuinely a nice man and appreciates uses of different types of music.
I deliberately went to bed. Kiri rubs me up the wrong way. When it said that she was the only one left to come I pressed the off button.

Hi Nicola,
Yes, of course I meant Rolando! That other name is a bit on my mind at the moment for another quite personal reason, and it is obviously getting to me.
And I too think he is a nice guy. But probably the only other person there that Dame Kiri thinks can sing.
I feel sorry for her, I really do. She is missing out on so much great music. I thoroughly enjoyed what I saw of the show, and I thought there were some wonderful performances on the night. Even Camilla, who I have been critical of in the past, I thought gave a beautiful performance.
But does Dame Kiri rub you up the wrong way because of her attitude, or because of her singing. Since she has been known to perform pop songs, I guess she counts as a crossover artist. If it is her attitude I agree. But I still regard her as a fine singer.
