She's not crossover in the sense that my website refers to, and she'd probably have a heart attack if I added her alongside Sarah, Katherine etc. XD Her attitude rubs me up the wrong way, and I don't like her voice either. I prefer Elizabeth Marvelly doing "Tarakihi" and that's saying something. She recorded 'Benedictus' with Rhydian, and it was heavenly... until she started singing. Argh. I couldn't give two hoots about what her opinion is - that's entirely up to her. It's the way she expresses that opinion that gives me the impression that her attitude stinks.

Hi Nicola,
Yes, you are probably right about her attitude to Sarah and Katherine. But I get the feeling that her real problem is Hayley. She (Kiri) would like to think she is New Zealand's finest singer. And for some slip of a girl, barely out of nappies from her viewpoint, to blow her out of the water on West Side Story is unforgivable. Kiri, get real. You are a great artist. You can sing beautifully, but that doesn't mean everybody else who sings has to do it your way. Hayley too is a great artist, just starting out. Your attitude shows that you fear she is better than you. That is a matter of opinion.
The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Abba, Micheal Jackson, are better than you if judged by record sales. Shania Twain, who made the best selling album ever by a female singer, is better than you. If you think otherwise, you insult the musical tastes of millions of people.
So please, spare us the sermons. People like what they like. We are all different. We all have the right to choose. Hayley is a very exciting artist, Ennio Morricone has said as much. That is why he is working with her. And in the end, the people, the record buying public, will be the judge of what they create.

Grant, such language!! That word is allowed on this forum? What an arrogant lady Dame Kiri is. Of course Susan Boyle isn't an opera singer, and it isn't fair to compare her that way. She has a very pleasant voice, and is an interesting person. What does she think the slim singers should do, start getting fat, and unhealthy? I really don't see what your weight has to do with anything. I've never heard Kiri sing, and have no interest in her, but it's obvious which Kiwi singer is the nicer person. I'm not crazy about most opera, anyway.

Hello everybody.
I think more than enough has been said about Dame Kiri now, so I'm locking this thread. I've also moved it to Other Music, because Hayley was really only mentioned in passing.
