... But, she doesn't have the X Factor really, since I can't imagine her working with Simon Cowell! The X factor in Hayley's case is simply that she's: - X-traordinarily talented
- X-quisitely delightful all around
- X-tremely great at what she does
Works for me.

Hi Vanessa,
Yes ATUOT is lovely, but it is quite old now. Not I think typical of Hayley as she is now. Any album is only a snapshot of an artist at a particular time, and Pure was a long time ago.
This is another part of the difficulty of choosing a single track to illustrate an artist as diverse as Hayley.
I tweeted Hayley about Quanta Qualia, from Odyssey only yesterday, since her vocal technique on that track is absolutely breathtaking. She makes her voice sound like various orchestral instruments, flute, clarinet and oboe, I don't think I've ever heard any other singer do anything like it. Of course to do that needs a very pure voice, and Hayley really does have that.
There is a YouTube version, but since it is a commercial recording I would probably get shot for posting a link here. Not difficult to find however.

Thank you for the style and music advice Libby. I'm gonna have my hair just like the pic in your avatar!!! Also I like the picture in your banner because Hayley looks like a MERMAID. Thanx heaps for the linnk Joanne. I'm gonna use the purple dress picture it is so pretty. Thank you Steve- I might actually use that if u don't mind!!! Thank you Martin. I might use Quanta Qualia in the background when I'm giving the speech?? You are all helping me SO MUCH! I'm working on the research right now. I'm gonna do a PowerPoint. I'm gonna start with a REALLY good song maybe a big concert to hook every1 in.The next part will have the time line so I will need some pics of Hayley when she was a kid. Might end with Across the Universe of Time cos it's my FAVE song. Do u know where I can get advice about bullying?? And maybe how she overcame it? It is a BIG topic in my school. Thanks heaps guys

Hi Vanessa My apologies for not joining in with ideas for your project so far but you do seem to be getting lots of excellent advice from many of my friends here Thank you Martin. I might use Quanta Qualia in the background when I'm giving the speech?? I think that's a great idea - it is a fabulous showcase for Hayley's voice even now as it was recorded some time ago. It is also one of my favourites. It might be an idea to have it ready to play at the end of your presentation - I would expect at least one of your 'audience' to ask you about it. Recently, Hayley has been opening her concerts with "Prayer" - singing the opening part a-capella from the wings and walking on to the musical intro. It is very effective and may work for you. There are really good pics of Hayley as a young girl in both her books. There are several photo threads in the 'miscellaneous' board so ther may be some in there. Good luck Grant

Hi Vanessa,
I seem to remember reading something about bullying in one of her two biographies, but couldn't find it quickly when I looked. I seem to remember that she mentioned it, but dismissed it as something unimportant. I though at the time she was making light of something that was perhaps quite hurtful at the time.

martin-- she said that she got teased because they were jealous of her success; which to me seems like a mature, retrospective perspective on the issue.

Martin, as I said, songs like ATUOT are good songs for young people, since I find that this and other Pure songs really appeal to younger people. As she says, these kids like pop music. I think it's better to introduce them to a song that would appeal to them, and ATUOT would more so than Quanta Qualia. And if it's your favorite, Vanessa, I say go for it! Maybe you could use a song from each album, if you can. It would be good to play one that she wrote, because that would show how she's growing as an artist. Summer Rain is so pretty, they'd like it, I'm sure. Quanta Qualia shows wonderful vocal ability, but not everyone likes high-pitched singing. My sister calls it screaming.

Thanx Grant I will look in the threads for young pics of Hayley Thanx Martin and Spiderman (haha) for your replies Thak you Libby I do want to include that song. I luv Summer Rain too! Oh "screaming" that's a bit rough!!! LOL I am having trouble looking for bullying info. We need to incude criticism (sigh) and I think that it is important how our x factors overcome obstacles. I saw Hayley did something like an anti bullying campaign?? Can't remember where I saw it?? Thank you again and again and again for all of your help! I will have to let u know how I go!

Hi Vanessa My mum took me shopping to look for Hayley's books but I couldn't find them ANYWHERE! So I might not be able to get them in time for my project . Sadly, many high street bookshops like WH Smith won't stock them. Admittedly, Hayley's first book is hard to find, but "In Her Own Voice" should be available at the larger stores of 'major' book outlets like Waterstones. It's difficult to help not knowing where you are located. Also, you haven't actually said when you are doing your presentation. Best wishes Grant

Quanta Qualia shows wonderful vocal ability, but not everyone likes high-pitched singing. My sister calls it screaming. Hi Libby, To my ears there is high pitched screeching, which some singers indulge in, and which I find unpleasant, and which some use excessive vibrato to try to moderate, and those who can sing high without screeching and very much vibrato, like Hayley. I enjoy Hayley's high notes very much, especially when delivered with power. Her voice is pure and sweet whatever the pitch, but she loses a bit of power on the low notes. And yes, I agree that Summer Rain would be a good song to include. It's a song that has immediate appeal, and is a Hayley composition. Martin D

Hi Vanessa,
For Hayley's first book, Have a look on Ebay.co.uk, there was a seller offering it for a Buy Now price of GBP 5.75, but nobody bought it....... You can have a watch at the complete listings, and maybe contact the seller, who is in the UK.

I love Hayley's high notes, too, and my relatives do too, to some extent, but they don't appreciate vocal ability as much, I guess. Actually, when my sister heard Hayley's Pie Jesu on youtube, she called it "Pretty screaming". So, at least she kind of liked it. She does like some of Hayley's songs, and she'll even try to do the extra high notes just to aggravate me. I hate that, because those are the parts I especially like to hear, and then she goes and ruins them! I disagree somewhat about the low notes. When she was younger, her low notes weren't very strong, but now she can do them a lot better. I love her low notes in "I Believe".
