Thought the Cyprus entry was really good. There are a few long time Eurovision fans on this forum for sure. Your wish is my command ! The 2nd semi-final is tonight and since there is nothing else on TV, the theatres are closed and a storm is coming, I'll stay home and keep an eye on it and post any songs that look interesting or come anywhere near being classical crossover. In case you were wondering (and you probably weren't) the UK entry is a 500/1 outsider so I won't bother posting a video of that, embedded or otherwise. There must be a reason why they think other European countries won't vote for us or why on earth French fishermen wouldn't give us "douze points" but I just can't put my finger on it. EDIT: Well semi-final 2 was a weaker affair than the first but I did think the Greek entry was quite good, sung as it was by an 18 year old, the youngest singer in the contest. At least she'll get 12 points from Cyprus and vice versa of course.

The girl from Greece is looking good,
Portugal a definite maybe or the family from Iceland.
The French farmers and fishermen know how to put on a good protest, democracy at work for the people.
Do you hear the people sing? Singing the songs of angry men? It is the music of the people Who will not be slaves again! When the beating of your heart Echoes the beating of the drums There is a life about to start When tomorrow comes!

Hi Jeff!
Unfortunately all of the Eurovision videos you shared are blocked for us in America. The uploader has not made them available to the USA.

That's too bad Joe. Will you be able to watch the live final ? Hi Jeff… there is no way that I can. It is relatively unknown over here. Even the official Eurovision YouTube channel only has rehearsals and interviews.

And yet they let Australia take part so I assume they can see it there ! Doesn't make sense to me.

While the voting is going on my reflections on the Eurovision Grand Final were that dress seemed to be optional for several female singers, Azerbaijan in particular who seemed to have left their outer garments at the hotel, such was their rush to get to the venue ! The guy from Portugal was noticeably well attired and my performance of the night was Victoria from Bulgaria. Unlike some of the other performers she understood that the important thing is the music and not how you look. Result expected around midnight. OK so while we're waiting you want to see the very dapper Mr Portugal ?

Obviously peoples taste in music has changed drastically. A lot of the countries sang in English this year yet the UK entry got no votes, the song was certainly of an acceptable standard,I wonder was that because of Brexit.A lot of very good performances got low votes. When I heard the Italian song I thought "well they don't want to win" but what would I know.

The inquiry/post mortem is already underway on Twitter, Comet. Looking back to our heyday in the contest 1967-77, we had 11 years when we were never out of the Top 4, winning it 3 times and 2nd 5 times. But look at the calibre of singers we had in those days: Cliff Richard, Lulu, Olivia Newton John, Mary Hopkin. The event has now become a poisoned chalice for established stars. With all due respect to James Newman, he's no Cliff Richard but he didn't deserve to come last. He was however very gracious in defeat so well done to him for that.

I'm listening to the cheers for James Newman from the other singers.

Jeff and comet just to add that Spain and Germany got only 6 and 3 points respectively, so Brexit isn't the reason for the UK's 'nul points', something else is going on. Given that Italy and France were winners and runners'up respectively, the only explanations I can think of are a) poor singing; b) poor choice of song; or c) poor visual performance. Maybe it should be renamed the Eurovision Performance Contest, but as I rarely watch it all any more and only caught an occasional performance last night, I'm just guessing!

Moving on, I've just been listening to Classical Crossover Magazine's latest concert featuring American/Lithuanian soprano Agne Giedraityte or Agne G. This was indeed some enchanted evening.

I've been listening to Jonathan Antoine's new single, Io Si (Seen). It is a beautiful song, and he sings it so well, with so much emotion. I'd highly recommend it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=zybog6uIa1M. I've also been listening to the original by Laura Pausini www.youtube.com/watch?v=imjSm7FNmwE, I prefer Jonathan's version in Italian but it is nice to hear the English translation in this one www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qd5m1ZqFIAI. She has also recorded the song in French and Spanish, and half English, half Italian. I must say I would love to hear Hayley sing it one day, it would be a lovely song for her I think, it's very comforting. It would be lovely to have Jonathan and Hayley sing a duet of this song but I think that'd be hoping for too much
