I have been keeping an eye on the statistics for my Hayley concert videos on YouTube. YouTube had a comprehensive stats facility called Insight that can tell you a lot about who is watching your videos.
It might also be interesting to compare notes with others who have posted videos.
I now have over 20,000 views for my 13 YouTube videos since 22nd August last year.
In the last fortnight, the popularity figures show my videos are most popular in the following countries, in order, weighted for population:
1. United Kingdom 2. United States 3. Japan 4. New Zealand 5. Australia
In terms of total number of hits, I get
1. United States (44%) 2. United Kingdom 3. Germany 4. Taiwan 5. Brazil
The most popular of the 13 videos over the period are:
1. Ave Maria (Caccini) 17.7% 2. Rule Britannia 17.1% 3. I Know You By Heart 10.1% 4. O Holy Night 10.0% 5. Jerusalem 9.3% 6. Scarborough Fair 7.6%
Over the whole period from August 22nd the corresponding results are:
POPULARITY 1. New Zealand 2. United Kingdom 3. United States 4. Australia 5. Japan
TOTAL VIEWS 1. United States 2. Australia 3. United Kingdom 4. Japan 5. Portugal
Top Videos* 1. Rule Britannia 2. Ave Maria (Caccini) 3. Jerusalem 4.O Holy Night 5. Peace Shall Come
* These figures might be misleading, since some videos have been available for longer than others.
The one noticable thing about this is the position of the United States, even when weighted for population, the US is second in the current figures and third overall. 44% of my recent hits have come from the US.
So perhaps Hayley is better known and more popular in the USA than she and her management think! Interesting.
There are lots more stats that I could extract if anyone is interested, such as gender and age distribution of viewers, popularity of particular videos in individual countries and how people discovered the videos.

Hi Martin Great job of research on the you tube hits. Am I to assume the U S has almost half the hits as the rest of the countries? If that's the case perhaps Hayley's management people should make an effort to get some more exposure in the U S.

Hi Larry,
That's right, 44% of the hits in the last fortnight are from the US. I have tweeted the link to Hayley in the hope that it will be helpful to her.

I noticed that the Majesty video got significantly more views during Easter time. It appears to be the most popular song from the River of Dreams album on youtube, with Ave Maria next. Not that I'm allowed to post the links here, but I'm certainly not stopping anyone from searching for it on their own. I like the pictures that go with it.

Quick update:
Interesting development - over the last 2 weeks my vieos have been most popular in - wait for it - Taiwan!!!
Top 5 are
1. Taiwan 2. USA 3. Australia 4. Japan 5. UK
I wonder if the sudden jump in ineterest in Hayley in Taiwan is the result of promotion for her new "Best of" album about to be released there!
Top videos in the last two weeks are
1 Ave Maria (Caccini) 2. Rule Britannia 3. O Holy Night 4. Jerusalem 5. Peace Shall Come
Note that overall, since i posted the videos, Rule Britannia is still the most popular, but Ave Maria has been catching up for most of this year!

Hi Martin D,
Do you mean popularity by total number of views, or regional popularity?
At HWIvid, US is still top by a long way on total views, followed a long way back by Japan, the UK and Taiwan (but those three together exceed the US).
On regional popularity (which effectively boosts "smaller" countries i.e. with a low youtube usage), it's very close at HWI, with all the usual suspects at the top: NZ, Taiwan, US, UK, Canada, Japan.
Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave,
I'm talking regional popularity, that is weighted by population. If I just look at total views, USA wins hands down.
It is just interesting to see the sudden surge in Taiwan in the last week or so.
Your usual suspects are there in my stats too, plus Germany is doing quite well ATM.

Just a quick update. Despite having posted no new public videos since Christmas, the hit rate continues to creep up. For the last 2 weeks we are up to 145 hits/day, p from around 100 six months ago, and from 130 a week ago. There seems to be lots of increased interest from the far east, perhaps because of the recently announced tour, but it seems to be coming, surprisingly, from Japan and Singapore, rather than Taiwan and China (no hits at all from China). US and UK interest similarly seems to be steadily increasing. It is good to see. Slowly and surely, Hayley's fan base seems to be building. Long may it contine.

This last fortnight the USA is the country with the most hits on my channel, and this applies whether or not you weight it for population. If that is any sort of recognition of where her fans are, it would indicate that despite being relatively unknown, she has more fans in the USA than any other country! I think she really does need to do some shows over there (and I know our American members here agree).
The top states are Rhode Island, New Jersey and California.
Also, it is interesting that in the USA the male/female ratio of hits is pretty much 50:50. Elsewhere, it is usually more like 70(male):30.

Those are some very interesting stats Martin D Rhode Island is the smallest state in the land By the way, your list of the top American states contained California twice Thank you for sharing Joe

Hi Joe,
Well California was third, fourth was Texas. Glad you find it interesting. If Hayley is to tour America anytime soon, knowing which states have the most fans is a useful thing to know.
Is Rhode Island actually smaller than Washington DC (somewhere I have actually been to on business - got half a day to see the sights)? Or does that not count as a state?

Martin D Hello Martin D, Rhode Island is many times larger than Washington DC (1545 square miles and 68 square miles, respectively). RI is the smallest state by land area but it has the largest proper name "Rhode Island and Providence Plantation". This was just on CNN as a referendum election on its proper name is to be held next month. 'DC' is not a state, more like a federal city meant to be separate from the states. Thanks Martin D for your stats, as you say it is very valuable for any future tour! Joe

The last couple of weeks has seen a big spike in the number of hits I'm getting. And looking ot the popularity figures (which are adjusted for the size of each country's population, or perhaps rather the YouTube using population) I see a completely different order for the last 2 weeks
1. Taiwan 2. Japan 3. United States 4. United Kingdom
But that hardly tells the story. My videos are about three times as popular in Taiwan than in Japan, so Taiwan is no 1 by a huge margin.
I guess the Asian tour is what has made the difference.
I also noticed that the most popular videos are also rather different. Taiwan's favourite appears to be River, followed by I Know you by Heart. Usually, i sew Ave Maria and Rule Britannia.
