Hello Jeff,
I said as much on Twitter. Keeping Danny in keeps the thousands of McFly fangirls watching. And voting.

Well, there weren't enough of them voting to keep Danny out of the bottom two. So maybe they got it wrong!

Hello folks! It's a very minor detail, but I've just amended the title of this thread. The name of the programme was incorrect in the original article. Richard

Kym Marsh will be performing 'Nella Fantasia' this week. I wonder how many "opera stars" Kym will say performed that one. *roll eyes* I'm disappointed with Marcella's song. Schubert's Ave Maria (also not an aria, but there you are). Vissi d'Arte would suit her. They should make her sing that!

Yes, you'd think they could find something better than "Ave Maria" which has been done so often by so many singers. Maybe they thought Marcella deserved something easier after last week. They'll probably save the best song for Danny but with any luck he'll be out on his aria !!

Danny is singing Funiculí Funiculá - a very fun aria. Will suit him and might save him.

It didn't although I thought Katherine was going to save him again and she looked disappointed that the man who made her swoon (no dear, the word is "wince") went out but he sung his aria in a pop voice. He didn't seem bothered (me neither) and said he'd have a holiday. (Good idea mate ! Have a nice long rest !) "Ave Maria" didn't really suit Marcella but Kym seems to get better every week. I think she was emotional because she was thinking of the baby she lost last year, a crushing blow for any woman let alone someone in the public eye. I thought Darius stole the show with his performance and overall I'm happy to see the best four singers go through to the semi-final. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

I was shocked when Rolando chose to save Danny. Danny doesn't have an opera voice at all. Initially, I thought his motivation was viewing figures (there's a lot of McFly fans) but I'm now more inclined to think that, Katherine and Rolando especially, like to save those they like the most.
I'm really rooting for Marcella, but she isn't likeable. She takes it all far too seriously and I don't think our audience want Americans in there. Still, I'm backing Marcella, because she's the best.
Bernie shocked me this week - perhaps it was just me, but she sang that aria in a pop voice nearly all the way through the song, and the judges didn't pick up on it.
Meat Loaf has a quote of the week every week. This week's was 'You better do up your fly because I think it's undone'.
Classic.
Whilst I do feel sorry for Kym about losing her child, I'd rather the personal lives of the contestents stayed personal. My boyfriend found it so cringing that he actually hid underneath the cover. I'm inclined to agree with him. I'd normally moan about the sob story tactic, but I don't think Kym did it on purpose.
I was really disappointed with the song choice for Marcella, even when I first heard of it. I wasn't surprised when it wasn't her best. I keep tweeting about Marcella doing 'Vissi d'Arte' - it is such a good aria for her.

Still, I'm backing Marcella, because she's the best. I pretty much agree with that Nicola, except for the "American" bit, I don't think that makes much difference. Don't dismiss Darius though, he's getting better and has the most potential to do some real opera, I think, opera of the Bryn Terfel variety. Speaking of real opera, I'm currently watching one! Lucia Di Lammermoor on Sky Arts 2! Do you know what, they are being really really nasty to poor Lucia at the moment (Anna Netrebko). Tricking her into an arranged marriage, shame on them! It does rather show up the inadequacies of our pop stars, though! Dave

About time I said something. Nicola, you are spot on once again!
I thought Marcella, who is in my book the best singer, was deliberately given a song that didn't suit her, and didn't allow her to show off her voice. It wasn't opera either!
Danny on the other hand, was given a song that didn't stretch his very limited vocal range, and I thought as a performance, it was much better than last week. And it WAS opera!
I loved Meat Loaf's joke about mountain tramways (fenicula = funicular). I think a lot of folk missed that one!
I thought it was Jonathan Ansell that went on stage this week with his flies undone (and noticed part way through).

Martin, it wouldn't allow me watch it forom outside Great Britain (oh, gosh, I hate it when this happens, specially when it's something realted to Hayley, XD)... So, I think Mél wouldn't be able to watch it from Australia either... Well, I am just curious of Rolando's performance, I may look it on Youtube and see if I can find it.
Michal
P.D. Has he sung yet in the show? What he sang? It will be easier to find, XD.

Yes indeed, Rolando sang in the show a couple of weeks ago, it was a Neopolitan love song, sung in the operatic style, L'Alba. I discussed it and provided links to my recording of it earlier in this thread, here. His new album "Tenor" is released tomorrow in the UK and is currently ranked no. 18 at Amazon so it looks like he will get a pop singer's sales next week, he should make the top 20 (if the supermarkets take it!). I mentioned above, that yesterday I watched the entire opera "Lucia di Lammermoor" on my TV, it was a beautiful production recorded a year ago at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Rolando was intended to be the principal tenor, singing alongside Anna Netrebko who played Lucia. But he had serious voice troubles and had to withdraw. Not a lot of people know that! Cheers, Dave
