In the afternoon Jono and his cousin arrived so at least 4 of us were going to the concert. It was a lovely hot afternoon so I had a swim in the camp swimming pool. But you could see in the distance thunderstorm clouds coming .
At 4:45pm Belinda and me decided to walk to the concert. Bad idea as we were walking there the rain started and by the time we got there we were wet. I could feel wet socks . But as the night progressed the rain got heavier so we all got wet anyway lol.

Hi Ross,if it is any consolation if the concert had been held here in CH CH the same thing would have happened, if it was held in Hagley Park. A nasty southerly has been here pretty well as you were crossing cook straight, and we have had an awful lot of rain

As I write this,there is still a southerly blowing and drizzly rain everything being soggy and a lot of surface flooding. Going by what you were saying it must be pretty general all over the country I would think. How did you get on sleeping in your tent Ross?

Concert Part One

The four of us met at the venue at around 5:15pm and we stood in the rain waiting for the concert to start. We had some food that was for sale at the venue and I had some wine .
At 7pm we went to our seats but first of all I bought a big pizza to keep me warm lol.
My seat was in the front row by the middle aisle. Belinda managed to get a seat across the aisle from me. Jono and his cousin were a few seats away in the front row.
But we weren't in the front for long as some seats were put in front of us and a certain family were apologetic about sitting in front of us but we loved it, of course it was Gerald, Jill, Sophie and Isaac.
The weather was not too bad at this stage with the odd passing shower but long fine spells too.
At 7:30pm sharp the concert started with Fiona and her band appearing on stage. Fiona was wearing a knee-length red dress with white polka dots. She introduced the band and her new husband Ian lol.
This was the play-list:-
- Tangissimo
- The Willow Tree
- The Whisper Waltz
- Memories Of Martin and Mary
- Turkish Fantasie
- Sabre Dance

Fiona welcomed all the fans especially the ones who travelled from Australia and Christchurch.

Then there was a short break while Haley's band came on.
Tim Evans was on the keyboard plus there was a guitar and a four piece string.

Then off-stage you could here a ladies voice start singing by herself. Of course it had to be Hayley singing Prayer.
She then entered the stage and the band started playing.
Hayley was wearing her iTunes dress with her hair laid down one side.
Hayley said she was surprised so many people had come to the concert in this horrible weather. The amphitheatre did look full so there could have been close to 1000 people there.
Then she sang Scarborough Fair.
Songbird I really enjoyed.
Then another favourite of mine Mummers Dance.
Then she said the next song had 100 verses but don't worry she will only sing a few (then her lovely giggle), of course it was Shenandoah.
The next song she said she sang when she was only 14 with bagpipers. She said she loved this song and some one in the audience yelled out I love you too to which she replied and I love you too (giggles).
The song was Amazing Grace.
The last song of the set she said you will either love it or hate it. When she started singing Danny Boy everyone clapped.
So the first half has finished and there was a half hour interval before all the fun started in the second half (weather-wise).
My time on the internet at the camp is about to run out so you will have to wait until I get to Hastings to get the second half plus the photos.

I have never shivered so much in my life soaked to the skin then the wind blew and we froze.
Before the concert i got a nice Bacon and egg burger gave Ross all the lettuce and tomato and bottle,coke

Concert Part Two

Before I start this report Belinda mentioned the song Ben. It was because while waiting for the concert to start we kept seeing a rat run into a patch of flowers near the stage. I thought it might be a musical rat and wanted to see Hayley lol.

About the time the second half started at 9pm the rain became heavy and persistent plus the wind turned cold and breezy so that was why Belinda (and everyone else) was freezing.
Fiona and the band came onto the stage. Fiona was in a little black dress with a clear sparkly piece covering the dress.
She started with Tchavolo Swing.
A new song which she hasn't named yet but gave it a title of Oompa Loompa
- House By The Harbour
- The Piper's Son
- Fire Over the Orient was also a new song.
Fiona finished with The Czarist.

It was really raining by the time Hayley's band had set up. Hayley thanked us for all staying. She was surprised we all stayed.
Hayley was wearing her Red Dress with the Black Belt.
This was the first time I heard Hayley sing I Know You By Heart and it was great.
Never Saw Blue was a crowd favourite.
Then Hayley headed to the piano, took her high heels off and played River which pleased us all as we wanted a song from her latest album plus I wanted her to play the piano.
Another crowd favourite was Both Sides Now.
The string quartet then played a song.
Then Hayley sang Who Painted The Moon Black.
Another wish (Jono's) was for a song from her Japanese albums and we got In A Thousands Winds which Hayley sang beautifully.
Then the last song suddenly came, although by this stage some of the crowd were leaving as the mainly elderly crowd would have been struggling with the rain and the cold.
Hayley sang her signature tune Pokarekare Ana and it still brings a lump to my throat every time I hear it.
Of course we got an encore of Hine e Hine. But it wasn't over yet as Fiona and her band joined Hayley band they played Summerfly.

Because of the bad weather there was no chance of meeting Hayley or Fiona but we did speak to Ian and I gave him the rather soggy Wedding card and he thanked all of us at HWI for the card.

Luckily Jono gave Belinda and me a lift back to the camp. The one good thing about the weather was my tent never leaked so I got a good nights sleep. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

The next day in the Hawke's Bay Today they said that heir was flash flooding near Hastings around 5pm so we were luckier than some people with the rain. Their was also a picture of the concert.

Well, I sympathise. I know what it is like to be at an outdoor Hayley concert in the rain, I was at one last July. Despite the rain, nobody moved. Everyone was mesmerised. This was Hayley we were seeing and hearing perform. You get wet, you feel cold, but you don't care. For anyone here who has never experienced it, that is ow it is. Even if it is wet, cold, uncomfortable, when Hayley is performing there is nowhere in the world I would rather be. I'm sure you BlackBarners felt exactly the same as we did at Beaumanor Hall last July. I have videos where you can see the raindrops running down the camera lens.

She sang a lot of the same songs too!

Thanks for those Ross. Yes, you can almost see the rain, and it does make photography more difficult. I hope your camera didn't get too wet.

At the time this concert was taking place I too was getting wet, trudging the last part of my journey to work though the rain. I think it was raining in sympathy!

Hi Ross

Many thanks for the report and photo's. Superb set list too - looks like Hayley gave you a pretty good cross section of the songs she sang for us during 2009. What a pity about the weather though! As Martin said, sounds just like Beaumanor Hall last year! Hayley must be thinking she's already back in the UK!

Oh! and I noticed new earings and patterned tights - Christmas presents I wonder?
