I've only a heard a few of Camilla's songs on youtube, just out of interest. I really liked In the Bleak Midwinter. Her voice was very soft and pleasant in this song, and it sounds to me like that fits with the song. I also listened to White Christmas, Noel, and maybe something else, too. They were very nice, too. I certainly find her voice more pleasant to listen to than Katherine's or even Faryl's. I don't care as much about technique as how beautiful they sound. I am not really motivated to try the songs that Hayley has also sung, like She Moved through the Fair, and Abide With Me, because I already like Hayley's and I don't want to hear every nice singer sing the same songs. I'd rather hear something new and different. And I'm used to Enya's version of How Can I Keep From Singing. Enya has such a unique, ethereal quality to her singing and music, and I appreciate her for her Celtic style; that's why I sought out her music in the first place (not to mention the LOTR soundtrack). There's nobody else like her (fortunately for Nicola ). I'm sure Camilla sings it nicely, too, though, so I suppose I'll try it sometime.

This is silly. Camilla will do just fine with what she has. Her timbre is unique and no amount of proper training will improve how special it sounds. In fact, training might just knock the sweetness out of it. As for career longevity, that too is overrated. It's time we looked at unique singers more like professional athletes whose prime years are when they're relatively young. The average NFL player lasts only five years in the business, but they make so much money in that short span of time that it's worth it to go all out. Camilla should go for the gusto now and not wait any longer. The opportunities may not be there. Katherine may indeed be declining vocally, but so what? She's already made enough money that she never has to work again, so to speak. We need to stop worrying about singers like Camilla and how they go about their techniques. What is important is what her fans love about her voice, not what her well-intentioned critics see as her deficiencies. I must disagree with you. You are talking about NFL, an elite league of one of the most popular sports in the richest and most powerful country in the world. Here, in Spain,, football soccer is the most popular sport, and an AVERAGE player from the first league, can have a quite wealthy life during his career, but for sure after a 10 year or longer career can't live without working anymore. And, I think singing is even more difficult. You are talking about five years at the top to make enough money for the rest of your life? Even at Hayley's wonderful and unusual peace, you'll be able to release at most 5 or 6 albums and it's really hard to make giant sales in every of them. And, of course, there's also the question: Who takes most, if not all the benefits of the sales? The recording label. And the label will keep your wealthy life as long as you are useful... I don't know about Jenkins, but I have the sensation that Hayley has not enough money to live without working for the at least 50 years that, hopefully, she has yet to live. And I think Hayley may not be the biggest music star, but for sure she isn't the average crossover singer. Also, there's something else... For many people, music, and concretely singing, is something they don't do for money, but for their love to the music itslf. I think a short career is something very dissapointing for those kind of people. They really enjoy what they are doing and trying their best at it, so such a drastic and premature decadence of their voice can be quite painful... Well, at least it is my opinion... Michal Edit: Ok, I agree with you that Camilla should keep her singing style if that's what her fans like... But I believe it's quite false that classical training would make her loose her natural sound. We are not talking about transforming her in an opera soprano who has to use special techniques everyday to sing without a micro over a full orchestra or using a tremendous vibratto, yes, this could actually change her voice. But a basic classical training will just make her able to sing with the same voice, but having more control and consciousness over what she is doing and, for sure, in a safer way for her voice.

I agree with you Michal. For Camilla not to get some professional training to protect her voice from damage would be like a professional athlete refusing to wear the proper protective equipment. That would be foolish.

Michal, without going off-topic I will say that I think Hayley's technique is very fine, indeed! Martin, I'm sad to say that I think Katherine is a classic example of what can happen if a singer doesn't look after their voice. (To answer your question: Let's just say that if I sang as Camilla sings, my teacher would be giving me a stern lecture accompanied by dire warnings!! And I know this because I have received those lectures, and worked to overcome those flaws) Katherine's first albums were fine enough, but lately she has shown decreasing ability in terms of range and breath support. But, that's another artist and another "rant" entirely, and once again merely my personal opinion. Hi Chantelle, Interesting comments. I have a friend who says she used to love Katherine's voice, but thinks her voice has changed for the worse in the last year or two. And maybe the less classical slant of her recent albums is disguising that. Needless to say Steve, I couldn't disagree more. I think proper training can only improve Camilla's fine voice, and I'm sure you would not want her to destroy what she has through lack of care and wrong techniques. Charlotte Church is someone who destroyed her voice, if you need an example. Hayley on the other hand, has always had the self-disicpline to make sure her wonderful gift is properly looked after. Her voice improved as she learned better technique and her voice matured. At times as Hayley's voice changed and developed, I feared she might lose some of what I loved about it, but in the end she just kept getting better and better, and every change was an improvment once she got usded to it. Camilla could do the same, but needs proper coaching to guide her. For one thing is sure, she won't remain the same forever! Martin D

Yeah, I don't know how old Camilla is, but I'm sure as one's voice matures, you will need coaching. I assume that's why Hayley took more lessons from Dame Malvina Major earlier this year. I think Hayley has more power in lower notes than she used to, but she isn't always using her power. In some recent concert videos, and even WM, her voice somehow sounds younger. Not as in immature, but I think it's her lighter tone, and sometimes her voice sounds thin. I don't know how to explain it. I hope she still sings songs that showcase the true purity and strength her voice still has, and I'm afraid her singing less classical songs will prevent her from doing this.

I think I might have read that one. It's not that interesting - just the same story of her stalking Gary Barlow, etc. All of her interviews are the same. Unless it's a new one I don't know about! XD

According to her Twitter page, Camilla is on "Popstar to Operastar" 9pm Friday 15 Jan on ITV1. One of the mentors is Katherine Jenkins and it's hosted by Mylene Klass and (unfortunately) Alan Titchmarsh. Apparently it's a "crossover singing contest for 8 established pop stars." I assume Camilla is doing a guest slot and not one of the contestants ! Might be worth a look if I'm not asleep after Coronation Street !

Camilla is a busy girl this week. As well as being on Pop To Op on Friday (where I'm confident she'll put everyone else in the shade) she's on Titchmarsh tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5pm ITV1. (Isn't Twitter informative !!) Those of you who still have a job may be home in time to see it, weather permitting ! My account on her forum has now been confirmed but I'll still pop back here from time to time !

On her Twitter page Camilla says all the singers on "Popstar to Operastar" did really well ! I assume she's being diplomatic ! She also promises her fans never to mime. Very noble but that may come back to haunt her. Even Hayley mimes (remember "Abide with me" on Songs of Praise?) but doing it well is an art in itself. Done badly and the viewer soon knows !

I have been reading so much on HWI about Camilla Kersake I finally got around to listening to her on you tube. She's a beautiful girl with a very good voice and I hope she does well; however her voice lacks the purity and perfection that hayley has. Hayley doesn't just hit the notes perfectly she inhabits them.
