Yes she told me about "Les Mis" when I met her last week. According to her latest tweet the shows are almost sold out. I've never seen it but looked up the plot on Wikipedia and it looks complicated ! Interesting to see her at the signing session afterwards. Compared to Hayley she is more outgoing, even tweeting which hotel she was staying in at one point on the tour. She's an impressive eater too, munching her way through a bag of creme eggs I'd given her before the concert. I was surprised to hear that as I thought dairy products were bad for singers but no problem to Camilla it seems. But she is nobody's fool and wants to be taken seriously for her music and not just her looks. She even refused (jokingly) to do a photo with a fan because he had already done a photo a few days earlier at the Classical Brits. She asked how many photos he wanted but agreed in the end (people trade photos on Ebay apparently) so "stage door johnnies" beware !!

Hi all I just saw this on Camilla's facebook page: "For all you Kiwi's the interview I gave today will go out on TV3 after the rugby and for you Brits I'm on Sky Sports 1 at 2:15! Watch plz! x" I think she's singing (sung) both the New Zealand and British national anthem on the rugby...I wonder what that was like...I also wonder if Hayley will sing the NZ anthem this year?...i hope so...i love listening to her sing it!... I think Camilla'll do a good job of the British anthem though... best wishes Sing

Hi all, I just found this article from TVNZ3: www.3news.co.nz/Classical-Kiwi-singer-making-it-big-in-the-UK/tabid/418/articleID/185138/Default.aspxThere's nothing really new here...but here's the article: Classical Kiwi singer making it big in the UK Camilla Kerslake, 22, was chosen to sing at the All Blacks' test against England and since she's half Kiwi and half British she was asked to sing both anthems Sun, 07 Nov 2010 6:38p.m. By Kim Chisnall A Kiwi who has made it big in the UK as a classical singer has just had her biggest audience yet. Camilla Kerslake, 22, was chosen to sing at the All Blacks' test against England and since she's half Kiwi and half British she was asked to sing both anthems. Kerslake knows all about divided loyalties; she has a Welsh mother and a New Zealand father, lives in London but spent her childhood in Devonport, Auckland. “They didn't tell me which one I was going to be singing and I was thinking, ‘I'm an English, Welsh, Kiwi which one am I going to choose?’ But luckily for me I haven't had to upset either side of the family,” she says. While she is more used to singing an opera in Italian than an anthem in Te Reo, she did have childhood memories to draw on. “I’m used to singing Maori songs and I guess that way for me it was a bit easier. I've really enjoyed it; it's really taken me back to my roots it's made me feel like a five-year-old again.” Kerslake's big break came last year when she became the first artist to be signed to the record label of Take That singer Garry Barlow. She got Barlow's attention by delivering a copy of her demo CD to him every day for six weeks. “About a week and a half in people were saying, ‘ok, you need to stop now obviously nothing is going to happen’, and I'm like, ‘well maybe he wasn't there, maybe he's been busy’, and then it was just one of those things you know when you've put so much into it you can't stop, you have to keep on trying, and I'm lucky I did because I think the only reason he listened to it in the end was he had piles and piles of CDs on his desk.” At just 22 Kerslake has already had a varied career – she's been in a girl band and performed for the Queen but classical music remains her true calling. “I went to a school called Vauxhill in Devonport and one of my teachers, Mrs Dick, said the other kids used to come in singing nursery rhymes and that I used to come in signing opera.” Kerslake's second album will be released in March and she hopes to tour in New Zealand – finally giving her New Zealand relations a chance to see her live. Best wishes Sing

Nice article. Saying she's been in a girl band is a bit of a stretch - she was accepted and kicked out shortly after. I suspect the band was The Saturdays.
I can't wait for Camilla's new album. The tracklist is fantastic. If you check out her website, there's a snippet of 'Moments' playing in the background.

I haven't seen the tracklist but if "Moments" is anything to go by she seems to have abandoned the orchestra for a synthesized sound which to my ears is more pop than crossover. She described the album as Enya meets Katherine Jenkins although Enya can sound synthetic and manufactured at times. I'll have to wait till next March for the release of course and her team did run a facebook campaign to choose tracks so I'll have to wait and see if any of mine feature !

Camilla asked her twitter followers to comment on this. I told her liked it, it is an interesting direction for her although a lot like some of Sarah Brightmans stuff. But I don't really think she is hiding behind the backing, she has too good a voice to need to do that.

This coupled with 'Moments' make me wonder what this direction is. I'm very curious! She's not using her voice at all in the way it was used for her first album.
I'm going to her album showcase on Tuesday and can't wait to hear the rest of the album!

Camilla was on Radio 2's "Friday night is music night" last night to perform live. It's on the iplayer for 7 days. "Moments" comes on after 40 mins and at 51 mins there's an interview where she talks about the new album. They play her version of "Bring him home" from Les Mis which is as good as anything I've ever heard, Hayley included. At 1hr 40 mins she sings "Woman's Work" by Kate Bush then "El Corazon."
I must admit there are some brave choices on this album, not what I would have expected after her debut album but it shows her courage and growing self-confidence as an artist.

Always a bit sad to reply to one's own post but Camilla was on Aled Jones' show on Radio 2 on Sunday. (iplayer after about 2hrs 20 mins). Yet again her second album release has been put back AGAIN to March 21st. Maybe they are trying to avoid clashing with Hayley ?
