Hey Michal,
I have been in correspondence with her mother for a year, asking me for advice, etc. Everything she has ever asked has indicated that Jackie and her family are firmly interested in classical crossover and have no interest in opera. In fact, Lisa told me in no uncertain terms that they have no interest in opera. But with experts flocking over to Jackie now, maybe they will be pushed/talked into it. Perhaps they'll like the idea. You never know.

Thanks for the info, Nicola. Of course, Jackie should do what she and her parents are interested in, and with what we see there, she'll surely be hugely sucessful whatever path she follows. I was just so amazed of how complete were all the qualities for Opera, and thought she could easily reach it, if she wanted to, maybe not yet, but with the right work, she could easily be one of the youngest true Opera stars in history.
Michal
P.S. I had the same thought with Faryl when I first heard her, in terms of voice training and vocal technique they still have much to learn to match the Opera standards, but both are closer than any other people her age or even several years older. But then again, I've seen in this video that Jackie is much more expressive on stage, the kind of straightforwardness you need to be an actor, something Faryl lacks, as a rather shy girl.

I think she probably can handle opera to some extent, going by her recent performance. But I'm not sure it would be good to push her voice too much this early. So she e could do a few operatic songs, but not all. Didn't Grace do opera on Australia's Got Talent, but then her album only has 1 song that could really be considered opera?
Nicola, I have not heard the recording of TWYA. I just clicked on the David Foster one because it was on the side, but I didn't see the other one. So, I can't compare the 2 performances. It did sound good, just a few notes seemed slightly off, but I didn't mean she was out of tune. It wasn't that noticeable, but I always notice off notes, even if it's for half a second. It also seemed a little bit high since I'm used to Josh singing it, so that might be why. But when you hear Grace Bawden singing Josh's Si Volvieras a Mi on youtube, now that really was way too high.

Her recording of TWYA is actually not that good. Well, her notes are all over the place on all of her recordings, because like I say, she recorded it before she had full control of her ability. I think she now has control, but obviously has a way bit to go on all other aspects. Yes, I notice the few notes that are off on some of her videos but I tend to not be too concerned with them for an eight year old. I wouldn't be concerned about it for a 10 year old, but Jackie is way ahead in her ability than any other I have heard of that age.

Indeed, Nicola, I had a look at some of her videos some time ago, after seeing this thread, and I must say I thought "She sure is very good for her age... but I am not that impressed". But now, after seeing the AGT performance and although the video from the audition, I must admit, I thought, OMG, what a change! Also, from her speeches on AGT, I have the impression of a very inteligent girl for her age. That makes me guess that, yes, she had an excellent starting position and at her age, the learning and improving capacity is incredible, but I think the key of her being so outstanding might be that her will, determination, concentration skills and working capacity are far beyond most childs of her age (and many adults too, although obviously, our Hayley is not of those),.. She must have worked so much and taken so much profit of that work to reach that level in such a short time. Do you think I am wrong with this guess?
And, yes, seeing her video from her christmas concert, "Wishintg you were somehow here again" is definately a very good choice, I agree her interpretative skills show up. Actually, I am surprised of how conscious she is of the emotive aspects of singing, like volume control.
Michal
P.S. When the semifinals are gonna be aired?

i think Jackie matches Hayley at the age of 8 (just watch the vids), and exceeds Hayley at the age of 10 actually. Its unfortunate that Hayley never received the exposure that Jackie already has had here in the US i shouldn't be comparing them though... so i hope folks forgive me for the thought. i bought a bunch (i think 5 or so) of Jackie's albums to give away to friends for last Christmas and if you listen to the album you can tell which songs were recorded earlier, and those that were recorded later... very noticeably improvement. She really is an amazing girl. The Evancho name from what i know about surnames is originally Ukrainian... either Ivanko, or Evanko. Thanks for that tidbit about her name. Here I was thinking it must be Italian, because of the way the 'ch' is pronounced, but thinking that she doesn't really look Italian.

What day will she be performing again? 8th September? That's what is says on a poster on her website? I thought it was this week?

No, Jackie will be performing next week, August 31.....not September 8. The poster referred to on her website isn't using 9/8c as a calendar date - it's saying the time of the TV program (9:00 Eastern Time/8:00 Central Time, in the United States).
It already feels like a month since she last performed! I would love to see Hayley and Jackie sing together.

Semifinals are this week, but I don't think they all can perform in 1 night. The rest will probably be next week. I haven't watched it yet, it's just about to start!

Yep...it is next week for Jackie. The AGT season 5 page on Wikipedia now reflects this. Jackie has a nice write-up on NBC's AGT "meet the semi-finalists" page.

Yep, I forgot that there are only two semi rounds of 12 acts...the top 5 from each will comprise the final show of 10. Enjoy watching yesterday's show.. I just finished casting my votes

And very enlighting in the Classical Crossover genre for the wider audience who could still be confused. Other media should take this as an example. As a side note, I am still wishing for a Classical Crossover singer to sing Schubert's original version of Ave Maria... maybe Hayley will someday? Michal

Original Faenol 2003 thread is here. I'm sure there are Hayley solos of it out there, too. She's certainly sung it several times in concert (but let's not go too far off topic for this thread ). Cheers, Dave
