Presumably you mean Jackie's album, not Gaga's!! Martin D Both, actually. Lady Gaga, love or hate her music, is exceptionally talented. Yes, several artists whose style and music I absolutely hate are actually talented singers. Not that I dislike Gaga particularly, but I wish she's forget the gimmicks and stick to singing. Then we could appreciate her talent without being distracted. Martin D

The gimmicks are part of her genius and identity. She wouldn't be Gaga without them.

The gimmicks are part of her genius and identity. She wouldn't be Gaga without them. Perhaps not - but the gimmicks actually put me off. I prefer music that is music, and not visual frippery. In some ways, when listening to music, it would be better to be blind. Then you could concentrate on the music without the distractions of visual images. And in fact some of those vsual mages have been and still are revolting enough to make me dislike an artist who is actually quite talented musiacally. Madonna and her clones for example. Martin D

I was in Tesco today (UK's biggest supermarket chain). Jackie's new album is at No 4 in their chart. Simon Cowell can do it with rubbish if necessary, but give him real talent... This leaves me torn. I hate the Cowell machine, but love Jackie. Such a sweet little girl with an amazing talent. What do I do!

The Cowell machine is pretty much the only thing keeping the music industry alive at the moment. Any money pumped into Sony gives the label more resources to show case new talent.
If you like Jackie, support her, and support the industry by buying the album.

Mostly I suspect due to his near monopoly of prime time TV talent contests!! The othews are finding it hard to compete with that, especially since the market seems to be contracting anyway.
Since I think competition is healthy, I try to avoid buying from market leaders. But I will probably end up buying this album..

Without wishing to drift off topic, I have to disagree about Mr Cowell and his influence on the music industry, I think it has been negative. And Syco has only two CDs in the UK Top 100 albums at the moment, one of which is Jackie at no. 4 so well done to her! It isn't in the classical chart though. Mr Cowell may well be keeping ITV alive but if anyone is keeping the music industry afloat, it's the 100% gimmick-free zone that is Adele. Like her music or not, she is ONLY about the music and that, I respect greatly. If we want to discuss any of these isues other than Jackie, I'm happy to move relevant posts to a more suitable thread (or anyone could create one). Dave

Back to Jackie, if I may ( i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif ). The one thing I like and dislike about her at the same time is her use of the tenor aria "Nessum Dorma" which sounds great when she sings it but really ought to be performed by a real tenor like Pavarotti. It's adorable when she does it and it garners her tons of applause, but I can't accept it, any more than I would want a man to sing "O Mio Babbino Caro". Does anyone else feel this way?

I disagree Steve. Jackie isn't the first female to sing Nessum Dorma - I know that Katherine Jenkins does it for one. And Jackie's voice is a lot like Katherine's to my ears. Personally, I enjoyed it. And in its context, yes, it is a male song, but can make sense if sung by a famale. O Mio Babbino Caro makes no sense at all if a man sings it. So there is a difference.
And Yes Dave, I agree about Adele!

So, I bought the album the day it came out in the US. I was at Target, saw that they had a special edition with four extra tracks (bringing the total to 18!) and I couldn't resist. It is totally amazing! I would recommend the album to ANYBODY! There is room for improvement in her actual voice, of course, but her performance is stunning, and with David Foster producing, arranging, and playing the piano, there really is little to desire. If anyone wants a track by track review, I'd be happy to give it.

Sarah Brightman recorded Nessun Dorma in 1996, but I know an opera singer in the b/w era performed it in a film because I remember seeing it somewhere. Forgotten her name and the film.
I've found myself with four copies of Jackie's album! One of them is the special edition. Needn't have bought a copy after all but hey, it all helps. <3 Apparently even though the album is doing well in the charts, it's actually not meeting Sony's targets. More sales the better.

Hi Nic Jackie was on PBS the other evening with David Foster. She was intoducing her new album. Wish Hayley coud do that when Paradiso is released in the states. Gee Nic I was sure wrong when I said the U S would tire of Jackie quickly. With Foster behind her she's sure to make it BIG. Tireman

With Foster behind her she's sure to make it BIG. Tireman Like Katherine Jenkins did you mean? But yes, I hope she makes it and manages to keep it going for more than 5 minutes. I can'e imagine what she'll be like when she is 30! Martin D
