It's with absolute disgust that I announce that Jackie has been signed to Syco/Columbia.

Why? I figured she would be signed within a month by someone.....

It's not being signed, it's who she has signed to.

Well, I guess Simon Cowell learned something from Faryl and just didn't want to let go yet another child-star opportunity.

Well, I wont beat this to death for the sake of those you dont want to see a bunch of these posts....I have had an odd sense about the way this was going down since about week three. Certainly Sarah Brightman's appearance was out of the ordinary - not only bigger in her field than any of the other guests, but an unlikely duet partner for Jackie simply because of her history. After that, Jackie broke at least the letter of the AGT contract by only agreeing to appear in certain of the tour cities. I had the distinct impression very early on that someone wanted to be very very nice to Jackie.
Jackie is very unusual in this because she entered the game with the framework of a functioning fanbase on her own. My suspicion and also my hope is that all of this gave her more clout in negotiating her own deal than would normally be the case. A lot can go wrong obviously, but at least in terms of potential, her commercial ceiling is several times that of Faryl Smith.

It's with absolute disgust that I announce that Jackie has been signed to Syco/Columbia. Oh c'mon, it can't be that bad! Simon Cowell is a star maker and can direct ample funds toward a recording project that would make Jackie a true contender in this illusory genre we call classicsal crossover. If anyone can put this neither fish-nor-fowl category up in mainstream America's face he's the one. Yes, Jackie had a following before AGT, but trust me, it was merely YouTube numbers, not big spenders. Now she actually has a ghost of a chance to have a successful career whilst still a wee poppet, and for that we can all be happy.

And be thrown in the bin before she is twenty. And probably become an emotional wreck too. Look whar happened to Michael Jackson. I fear for her.

And be thrown in the bin before she is twenty. .. please do... i agree its a travesty she has been signed... her singing hurts my ears [unfortunately, that means she'll probably have a career in opera] and was the most unpleasant 20 sec of music ive listened to this year. at least i tried though

I don't think she's as bad as you say, Spiderman, but I have to admit, I was a little disappointed at how mature she's making herself sound. She sounded nicer when she wasn't so operatic. While I admit she's exceptionally talented, it's not enough for me to be that crazy about her. I generally don't like opera or operatic voices. I definitely prefer Hayley's versions of O Mio Babbino Caro, Ave Maria, and Time to Say Goodbye. Not to mention Sarah Brightman's & Andrea Bocelli's version. The song I enjoyed by Jackie the most on AGT was Pie Jesu. That was lovely. But I still prefer Hayley's version on youtube.

hi libby... she hurts my ears , but i guess its just the operatic/ mature sound you speak of; makes me wonder what idiot suggested she go about it that way... i very much prefer annie pattison, who sounds so natural and pleasant. but then i always was a bit more poppy musically speaking.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but just because she's gone in the direction that you don't like, it doesn't make her, or anyone that suggested her to go that way, an idiot. Thousands upon thousands disagree with your taste, and they'll be buying her album. Doesn't sound idiotic to me. It's about time a sound like Jackie's hit the mainstream in America. I applaud Jackie.

Steve: Simon is not a star maker, he's a quick buck maker. He'll have her for one or two albums, then he'll move on to the next thing, leaving Jackie in limbo. Why not have a check of Syco's track record, and then tell me he is a star maker. Only artist he seems to have hung on to is Il Divo, but he did spend two years setting them up!

Mike (Jackie's Dad) has messaged me to tell me that whilst Syco are in the deal, the contract is more with Columbia, and Syco just have some stakes in it.
Could argue Sony is Sony, but I have seen Sony do some good with artists, though not familiar with Columbia as a sub-label.
