What puzzles me now though is that I cannot find this album anywhere, although it is recognised by Windows Media Player! Same with my "Bravo!" album...searched for it online with no result, but i-tunes picked up the track names fine...maybe it is quite an old compilation. The album you bought sounds interesting. WITA was just on WITA right? Nope, just checked and it's on "Hayley Westenra" too...really have to get around to buying those early albums..

Hi Jono ...maybe it is quite an old compilation. It's actually dated 2008 and it's branded Universal Thailand. It also comes in a slip case as you will see from the following scans. Best wishes Grant

Hi Joyce I've just had a quick look at the thread you refer to. All the tracks on my single CD are on the 2CD version so I assume that is why mine is a promo! Though why they bothered to put it in a card sleeve with all the other fancy artwork escapes me! Best wishes Grant

Hello everyone Not having a good day! I'm currently in my local library using one of the communal computers as mine is broken! Don't yet know what the problem is but I expect it will be expensive come what may! Trouble is, I feel lost without it - keep going to look at the space where it normally stands just in case that, by some miracle, it has returned! Consequently, my posting will be a bit irregular for a day or to. On the off chance anyone wants me in a hurry, you can PM Gordon who will get a message to me. Best wishes Grant

This is in no way intended to make Grant feel worse that he already does. It is merely a coincidence that I am moving to a new computer at work at the same time he is experiencing computer difficulties. I have been on the same Macintosh G5 system for nearly 6 years and was having issues with its ability to process some very large data files. Where I was having problems was with matching critical fields in two large data bases, one with about 6 million records and one with over 20 million records. It would take nearly a week for the process to complete. It was time for a new computer. The new Macintosh Pro quad-core system arrived yesterday. I was not looking forward to the migration experience since I have a lot of software and files and knew that it was going to take a long time to get back up and running. Wow!!! What an incredible job Apple has done to make the transition simple. When I started up the new computer last night it asked if I was updating from another computer. It then instructed me on how to connect the old computer to the new and it began the process of migrating all of my information. The software said that the process was going to take about 3 hours so I just let it run overnight. This morning I shutdown both computers and moved the disk drives from my external disk array to the internal drive bays of the new computer and started it up. The first thing I did was to make sure that iTunes worked correctly and would play my Hayley music. All is good!! The new computer logged me onto the corporate network, accessed my iDisk internet drive, synchronized my calendars, Softraid recognized the disks from the array and properly displayed them as RAID0 and RAID1 arrays. All my email accounts were correct and all previous emails were present and accounted for. The organization of files, folders, aliases, etc were exactly like on my old computer so I knew where everything was. All of my software was moved to the new computer and is running perfectly with no issues of lost licenses except for JMP (a statistical analysis package) which is very flakey with its license tracking. A simple call to their tech support got that fixed. The only software that had to be reinstalled was NeoOffice and that was because the previous version was for the PowerPC processor only. Even the scanner that was suppose to only work on Mac PowerPC systems works perfectly. If it wasn’t for the dramatic difference in speed I would think that I was still running the old system. My total "hands-on" time involved in the migration process was about 30 minutes. :smokin Task #1: Fire up HSJS and start processing those big data files. Life is good. Bill

Ten years ago, who of us would have thought that our lives, the Internet, computers and all things digital would have become so central, inextricably entwined and important to our everyday existence. If it had not been for that voice I might still be living in blissful ignorance of the internet and hanging around strange venues in the dark and in the afternoon and "Camera police" and worrying is the internet or broadband down or if my computer is still working

Hi folks Seeing as the discussion is on the topic of computers at the moment, I wa wondering if anyone could advise me on a new laptop to buy for uni? I am currently using a Dell Inspiron 6400, which has been reinstalled by a techie once before, but this hasn't solved the problem of it being incredibly slow! There are no games, etc installed, just the basics like Microsoft Office, iTunes (of course!) and drivers for printers. It takes 10 minutes just to get the internet working, and it is quite bulky for what I'll need for uni. I have had all sorts of suggestions from friends, and I was also hoping for some advice from those who use computers alot, so where else to look than the HWI! The sort of thing I'm looking for is a laptop that is quite small, but sufficient enough to play music and type documents (Microsoft Works/Office), as well as being within a students budget! Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Cheers Ben

Hi Ben,
As you can probably tell, my bias is in favor of Macintosh computers. My experience is that they have a longer life span and have more built-in features than PCs. This helps to offset their higher initial cost. As a bonus, their new machines have intel processors so they can run both Mac and PC software. They are light-weight and very well built.
I started using Mac computers around 1987 and have never been tempted to go back to a PC. Over this length of time, I have only had three different Macs for home use. They hold up very well.
For my portable needs, I currently use a Mac 12" G4 laptop that is over 5 years old. I will probably need to replace it in the next year or two. It's replacement will be another Mac.
Good luck with your hunt.
Bill
