Phew!
Just returned from a London Tour with the Triggshire Youth Wind Orchestra! Weather was good (mostly) and playing at Hyde Park was amazing!
Venues were the Southwark Cathedral, Greenwich and Hyde Park, as well as selected primary schools in South London (I forget the names!)
Pictures are on Facebook - search for Ben Mitch and add me! I welcome new friends! (my picture is the one on top of a rock with a super view behind me!)
Cheers
Ben

Hey Ben, I hope the op goes well mate, I've enough time in a hospital bed to last me a lifetime, I've worked in them for long enough too. I know it's not fun, but I'm sure Hayley will help Good luck mate Dean

Hi Ben, Sorry to hear you have not had the best of days. About 12 years ago, I went in for a hernia op and was told I would be allowed home by 5pm. That was true but it was 5pm the next day! I hope your operation was successful. At least the job is done and you can put it all behind you. Quite why you would want to put your nose behind you escapes me for the moment! And now for news of my exciting day... Er, um, well, er... nah, can't think of anything, sorry! All the best my friend, Roger

hi dean and roger thanks for those words! hayley definitely helped calm me down - i have placed all her songs on a separate playlist on my ipod so i let that playlist repeat over and over all night! Bliss!! i feel a bit better this morning - the ward i'm in is quiet and peaceful, and away from the hustle and bustle of the car park. A couple of the nurses were quite pleasantly surprised when i said what i was listening to, as they do not come across many teenage boys who are into hayley's music, or classical music in general! i am missing my guitar and clarinet at the moment - i wish id brought my guitar along as its times like this that are perfect practising times, and its something different to hear on a hospital ward! Doc wants to keep me in until late afternoon but i should be going home today at least, as long as things go to plan! thanks again guys! ben

This post has been moved from Close Up 27th July 2009: Hi Jono, We do not encourage 'obsessed fans' on this forum, just like minded folk who appreciate Hayley for the professional artist that she is, if Hayley wants to keep her private life to herself, that's good enough for us. Steve H Hi Steve,
Explain to me how you can define an "obsessed fan"?...I think there is a fine line between a fan and an obsessed fan...and it is all quite subjective.
I guess it depends how you look at obsession...whether you think of it as a negative or a positive.
I would actually consider myself an obsessed fan...and that's purely because I have never actively supported any other artist/ celebrity in this way before (I.e. posting on a forum, and genuinely wanting them to be successful). I'm not obsessive in the way of plastering my walls with pictures of Hayley, or anything like that... But still, with the amount of time I have spent on these forums in the last few months, I would say that at least verges on obsession..
I would consider many members on here "obsessed fans" too...some more so than myself...but I remind you that I'm not looking at that in a negative way. Obsession is a dark word, kind of like addiction (but not as negative)... most alcoholics, or people with any addiction, obsession, or habit are likely in denial (hope I didn't go too far with that statement )
What's your take on this?
Jono
Sorry this is off topic...we can move to the chat thread if needed?

Ben Hi Ben, Don't you worry about people "Taking the mick" it is usually out of their own insecurity that they do this , Usually in a group or gang, and then like sheep they will scrawl Metallica or whatever band they happen to follow with their "Mates" all over the place. Our relationship with music, or to music is completely personal and individual, No two people can ever be the same, There may be a lot in common, but there will always be some differences.

Hi Comet I agree with your notion of people following the music of others to just 'fit in'. However, this is not such a bad thing, as I have now got 2 of my friends interested in Hayley's music when they asked for advice on good revision music. I suppose I have been quite different to some of the people I have known, who have been into the usual 'teenage boy' music e.g Guns N' roses, Iron Maiden, Metallica etc, but personally I cannot see the major attraction to some of these bands - Maiden have released god knows how many albums, and it all sounds the same! It does not hurt to explore new possibilities. A major talking point amongst teenagers is of course music, and this isolated me in a way because I couldn't talk freely about my musical interests - thank the lord for the HWI! Going to a music college will help me make more friends (I hope) because we all share a common skill and interest. Cheers Ben P.S Thanks to those who sent their 'get well' messages! They were very uplifting!

... I really don't mean to sound picky, but... The use of a pick also limits the player as well, because only the pick is 'picking' the strings, whereas using fingers means that you are actually connecting to the instrument, meaning that more feel and emotion can be achieved. ... Let me pick up on this, as I have a bone to pick with you here. Fingerstyle playing and using a plectrum are comparable in achieving emotional expression. It all depends on the level of skill of the musician. I'd say take your pick. It's nothing to fret about, but "connecting to the instrument" is done the moment you pick the guitar up and feel its weight in your hands.
