Yes indeed, a broadcasting giant for as long as I can remember. RIP Sir Terry.

Yes, a very sad day today. He was only 77yrs old and I believe the onset of cancer was very sudden.
RIP

I wondered why he had disappeared from his Sunday morning radio show a few weeks ago. Now we know!
RIP Sir Terry.

What a lovely and respectful tweet from our caring Hayley.
Martin - his last Radio 2 broadcast was on 8th November (due to ill health). Little did we know that it was the start of this tragic end.

Well, Martin, I usually heard a bit of Weekend Wogan on the car radio on my way home from church. I never understood why he suddenly went missing - until now.
I wonder what sort of cancer it was. It might have been brain cancer like my wife Sue, first symptoms July 2013, diagnosed 20th September 2013, died 1 December 2013. It is terrifying how quickly an aggressive cancer can strike. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife Helen and the family.

Sadly Sir Terry Wogan is relatively unknown on this side of the Atlantic, except my fellow Anglophiles. I shall remember his tireless work towards Children In Need, his colourful commentary on the Eurovision, and for bridging the relations between the Irish Republic and England.

Sir Terry was unable to present the BBC's Children in Need last November due to ill health. He sang with Hayley and Aled Jones on the single "Christmas Dream" for Children in Need 2013:
RIP Sir Terry.

Of course Sir Terry made millions for charity and when it came to the Eurovision Song Contest he put into words what the rest of us were thinking but what I'll miss most is his self-deprecating humour. In pre-internet days rarely did we hear a complimentary letter read out on his radio show (despite the BBC receiving many). He much preferred the tongue-in-cheek grumbles from his listeners or "togs" (Terry's old geezers and gals). I remember once he read out a postcard he'd received from abroad: "Dear Woebegone, moved on from Holland when we found our radio could still pick up your show !" In the TV quiz "Blankety Blank" members of the public had to guess missing words from catchphrases. The prize was a plastic cheque-book and pen, totally useless of course. At the end he'd always ask the winner "Have you enjoyed yourself ?" Before the person had a chance to answer he'd snatch the microphone away and say "Of course you have !" It was through Terry that Eva Cassidy had a posthumous No.1 album with "Songbird" after "Wake up to Wogan" played it every day for a week. That was when I bought it. His main contribution to music however was his 1978 version of "The Floral Dance" which reached the dizzy heights of 21 in the charts which his listeners often ribbed him about, saying it showed his ability to start a song in one key and finish it in another ! A listener offered to build him a bigger garage so Terry could store all the records he'd bought to get his song into the charts ! I think he gave the record away as a prize in his competitions. I assume the runner-up got 2 copies !! As Sir Terry himself might have said : "Beethoven would have loved my Floral Dance. He was deaf !" RIP Sir Terry and thank you for being my friend and millions of others too.

Hi, I was watching a concert by Yanni earlier and this amazing harpist called Victor Espinola came on! WoW! I just had to share. It was amazing, I am more used to a Harp played in a more sedate way.
Enjoy!

LOL I agree. It may not be my country, but the original one is just so much nicer-looking.

Perhaps we should have a flag debate in England. That red cross is a bit boring. How about this one. Martin D
