Hello everybody! I thought there was an existing thread about the Pavão Quartet, but apparently not. I've discovered they will be joining pianist Marco Fatichenti for a free lunchtime recital at St. James's Church, Piccadilly on Monday 1st June 2009 at 1:10pm. They will play music by Mahler and Brahms. Violinist Kerenza Peacock and pianist Alison Farr will give another free recital of music by Brahms and Poulenc on Friday 19th June 2009, again starting at 1:10pm. Full details: www.st-james-piccadilly.org/LunchtimeRecitals.htmlI'll probably attend both recitals. Hi Richard, Although the Pavão Quartet have been mentioned a few times, I don't think they have ever had their own thread. The creation of this one proves that they were never going to escape forever! Thanks for the news of the two events at St James's Church. I would like to attend both but the first one is on Monday which will be impossible at such short notice. I will think about the other one but it is only three days before Fiona and Ian's appearance at the same venue. To do both may prove equally difficult be we shall see. Roger

Hello Roger! I've done some more research and found the Pavão Quartet's website: www.pavaoquartet.comI see they will be giving a lunchtime recital at St Martin-in-the-Fields on Friday 6th November 2009: I've put that one in my diary too. Meanwhile here's a nice video that I've seen on Classic FM TV: What a Wonderful World: www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0FLHJC3WBoRichard

Useful information and sounds an interesting combination of less easily heard music. Advantage of being a Londoner. Regretfully neither fits in with my current plans to be in town but thank you for advising and yes, it seems we need a thread, surprising there wasn't one already, as you say.

Hello Peter! I've found an interesting video of the Pavão Quartet chatting to Classic FM's Matthew Francis. This was recorded before they worked with Hayley: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zdiwlqkVkQRichard

Hello folks! I've just returned from an excellent lunchtime recital at St. James's Church, featuring the Pavão Quartet and pianist Marco Fatichenti. The first piece was Mahler's Piano Quartet in A minor, and for this Marco was joined by three of the girls, Kerenza Peacock on violin, Natalia Gomes on viola and Bryony James on cello. This was followed by Brahms' Piano Quintet in F Minor. The Pavão Quartet's fourth member Jenny Sacha has just had a baby, so Bryony's sister stepped in to play the second violin, but sadly I didn't get her name. I wouldn't normally list either Mahler or Brahms as favourite composers of mine, but somehow the brilliance of the playing combined with the acoustics in the church raised the music to a higher standard of excellence and I thoroughly enjoyed both works. I had a chat with the girls afterwards and told them I saw them with Hayley at Cannizaro Park last year. I bought a couple of their CDs and also promised to plug their concert with Marco Fatichenti at the Wigmore Hall on Monday 20th July 2009 at 7:30pm.
Full details and booking: www.wigmore-hall.org.uk/whats-on/productions/marco-fatichenti-piano-24149I see there are plenty of good seats available at £20, so I'll be visiting the Wigmore Hall's box office tomorrow. Now I'm really looking forward to seeing Kerenza again at St. James's Church on Friday 19th June. Meanwhile I hope all the girls enjoy their working cruise to the Baltic. Hi Richard.
Your reaction is precisely the effect I had envisaged would be the nature of teh concert and was very sorry I was unable to make it but I've noted the Wigmore Hall event. Thank you for an interesting side light on current events.

Hi Richard,
Wigmore Hall is a very good venue for chamber music and I believe that they actually forbid artists from using any amplification, relying on the natural acoustics.
I saw the guitarist Xuefei Yang there last year and very much enjoyed it so I look forward to reading your report.

Hello everybody! I attended another excellent lunchtime recital at St. James's Church today. This time violinist Kerenza Peacock was joined by pianist Alison Farr, and they played three works. The first was Brahms' Sonata in G, which was very melodic and romantic in style. The second work was Poulenc's Sonata, wrtten during the Second World War, and this was very dramatic. For an encore, the girls lightened the mood by playing 'Souvenir d'Ameriques' by Vieuxtemps, which is an arrangement of 'Yankee Doodle'. Kerenza and Alison played all three works brilliantly, but the last piece nearly brought the house down! Viola player Natalia Gomes was turning the pages for Alison, and cellist Bryony James was in the audience. I had a chat with all the girls afterwards and told them I will see them again at the Wigmore Hall on 20th July. Richard

The Pavao Quartet should be performing with Jonathan and Faryl on October 10th along with Al Gurr and Andy Moore. All subject to confirmation.
