Hi All, I fully expect this thread to be locked any minute. Anyhow, for what it's worth, consider this: 1. Lesbian 2. Vampire 3. Killers Three "shock" words of similar style to Newspaper Headlines. Why were they used in this movie? To get people going, that's why. I'm afraid, as soon as I saw them & that we had a "comedy" coming up using obvious bad taste instead of being really funny I'd had enough. I saw Debbie Wisemans name & that was the link to Hayley. End of story.....I'm really surprised there's been such a fuss over a movie that seems to be a waste of time to even talk about. Graeme

Hi everyone.
I have twice come on here to make comment and then decided that not joining the debate was the best response. However, in the light of fusilier's comment I would make these observations.
1. We don't know the circumstances of how the offer came about nor the context in which it was made.
2. If we support Hayley in the way we claim and hold our views on her more often expressed here, then she has the good sense to make the decision most apporpriate taking all aspects into consideration.
3. Where I disagree with fusilier is that we should indeed debate it. If her arguably most key fans indicate a disquiet, then that is why we are here. It rings alarm bells for her which she may choose to ignore, or heed, depending upon where she is wishing to go with her talent. Criticism, supported by reasoned argument is as helpful to her (arguably more so) then continuing expressions of support. As a professional she knows how good she is, whether she meets her standards of performance and where she stands amongst the competition/market. What she does not know is how she is perceived other than by those who express their support AND their concerns.
She will read such comments, taking on board the subjectivity of the reasons some are concerned and determine for herself their relevance in the wider scheme of things. We are a diverse group of people coming from many backgrounds, harbouring many prejudices. That is our value to her, a microcosm of diversity that is not necessarily unrepresentative of the larger world.

Thank you, Roger. That explains a lot. On the basis of some of my previous PMd differences of opinion with some Moderator actions I have been a little surprised that this thread has been allowed to run. However, as I wrote in an earlier post, that very cross section of life we represent here is a reasonably representative microcosm of the wider world.
What is here is no more than that which is already in the wider world. Some may enjoy being here because it takes them away from certain aspects of the wider world. It is the old early argument about TV. It needs to be remembered that it is a direct entry into the private home but even that cannot shield from the reality that is life. One might ask if it is good for anyone to be shielded or to be allowed to 'disappear' into a private world that is totally divorced from life's realities. At the same time, if only by default of not doing anything, we are all responsible for the world as it is. Hence debate. What actually is that debate? Surely it is no more than saying that we fans have chosen to draw certain conclusions about a prominent personality and that for some of us our personal subjectivity has suddenly been rudely shattered.
I am rather inclined to say that this thread has said more about all of us than that it has actually said anything factual about Hayley and the event! Let us bide our time and see what holds sway, perhaps observing as matters unfold.

Hi Ben, welcome to the site. Perhaps you will care to tell us what brought you Hayley-wowed!?

In response to two recent comments, I have no intention of locking this thread. Basically we have two groups of people here. One group is shocked and dismayed about Hayley's involvement. The other group are equally shocked and dismayed at the first group's reaction. Both are entirely understandable and it justifies the on-going discussion. But let's keep it that way - discussion; not argument.

After a "cool-off" period, rationality comes back to me and tells me that people come from differing backgrounds and simply have different values and different views of what is right and wrong. I have said my piece, others have said theirs. To me, it's simply a case of waiting to see if Hayley comments or not. I am still of the belief that aritsts owe fans nothing (it's an equilibrium between supply and demand) but Hayley is probably not prone to reacting just because she "owes" anything, more out of courtesy and respect.
Personally, I don't care if she comments or not, and I do not care if she was fully aware of the project (which, if you can take her off her pedastal for just a second, you'd logically realise that she probably was) or if she wasn't aware. She's a singer, she sang for a soundtrack. Simple as, for me, I'm afraid.

I think you raise an interesting point, Nicola.
In another thread I mentioned I thought the Lindsay Lohan version of The Parent Trap a 'better' interpretation than the original starring Hayley Mills. Since then that Hayley (now near her sixties) has been a model of 'normality' and 'decorum' while Lindsay, only 21/22 has messed up big time. Similar could be said for Charlotte Church except that motherhood and a seemingly stable relationship may have 'brought her to her senses'. It is the fact she has turned in another direction for her music and her career that causes me to no longer follow her. These developments do not in any way undermine the pleasure she gave when she first attracted my attention.
With LVK I simply have no interest in the film. Therefore that 'our' Hayley has contributed is meaningless to me. If I hear the soundtrack by chance and say to myself 'that sounds interesting, I might buy that' so be it. If it doesn't appeal I wont. I once wrote that Hayley could sing the telephone directory and I would pay to hear. Yes, if she is prominent on the soundtrack I may well buy it. If she is simply 'a part of the whole' I probably wont. The cause of the musical creation is irrelevant to me.

I am sorry you intend to close your account, Georgina as diversity of opinion is always welcome. You seem to expect exception to be made to your post before hanging on to see what reaction it gains. However, that does not stop you from reading without logging in, so perhaps you will decide to become a full member. The 'cosy ship of presumption' does not fairly describe us. We are too diverse for that so come along in, the water is warm! Why Georgina? Were your parents avid readers of the Famous Five when they were kids? So perversely you decided to keep your name? I met a girl at the sales counter of Costco a little while back. She was sporting the name tag 'George'. I very pointedly said to her 'Good morning, George. Were your parents avid readers of the Famous Five when they were kids?' Her whole face lit up with a broad grin, 'Yes!' she said, laughing. Of course 'Georgina' is an old name and is often associated with popularity in the Regency period which offer different interpretations. Perhaps that is why you are 'Georgina' and not 'George'? I have been following this thread and something interesting occurred to me. Hayley has given ‘rag bags’ (the publications that spout rumors about celebrities) an opportunity to latch onto this and portray it in a way that most likely will not be beneficial to her. In some article or maybe it was in Hayley’s first book it said that one of these publications interviewed her; the interviewer couldn’t find anything negative so she didn’t publish the article. Could have Hayley given them something that they can use to negatively affect her image? Should Hayley care if a publication uses this? I’m not sure about the answer to these questions, but they are worth considering.
At first I believed that the general public (those that buy Hayley’s albums, but don’t closely follow her) probably won’t become aware of this. But something like the above scenario could quickly change this.
Let’s hope that the above never happens.

I Hayley could sing the telephone directory and I would pay to hear. That's a valid point. Here is my viewpoint. I'm sure that Hayley gives every project due consideration and we ('as Hayley's Fans/Friends) must trust Hayley do do what is right for her. After all doing soundtrack work is part of her job as is concerts and creating albums. Personally the movie would not appeal to me, however I'm sure it would was a case of Hayley's work on Jekyll that attracted Debbie Wiseman to enlist Hayley's vocals. Also I'm reasonably sure that health issues caused by her trip to Basra last year must have had an impact on the profits of the RoD UK Tour as most of the rescheduled concerts were postponed at last minute (this was not Hayley's fault) however the venues would have still wanted to be paid even though the concert never took place and the costs of venues for rescheduled dates would have ended up costing Hayley. We often forget that realistically Hayley is self employed and she at times will need to make money where she can. I trust Hayley to do right by herself and her fans, however at times these two will never see eye to eye, but I don't think that Hayley would do anything intentionally to cause any loss of her fans. Anyway here is my input Dean

I'm beginning to think that we are all getting rather heated and making too much of a fuss about this. I think it all boils down to this
1. Hayley has dome something out of character by associating herself with ugliness, where normally everything she does is beautiful. I'm sure there is nothing ugly on unleasant or shocking about what she has recoded for this film either, it is just the rest of the film that puts us off. So what! Hayley is still the person we always knew she was, and still makes beautiful music.
2. We don't know whether Hayley did this without knowing what she was getting into, or made a conscious decision in full knowledge of what it was. And even if the latter, she may have had reasons such as loyalty to friends. I could not criticise Hayley for that, and would not think any the less of her.
3. She has done it! If you like that sort of thing go and see it or buy the album. If not don't. You have that choice! Nobody is forcing you.
4. We have no business whatsoever demanding any sort of statement from Hayley. If she wants to tell us something that is up to her. If she doesn't, that is OK too.

I have deliberately avoided posting again to this thread since after my very early post in which I first suggested that the sole reason for Hayley's involvement was due to the professional relationship between her and Debbie Wiseman, the discussion has become quite heated. My namesake's last post seems quite pragmatic about the situation and my overall conclusion is that, with hindsight, it wasn't Hayley's best decision ever but I am sure the decision was based upon the musical perspective rather than on the morality of the subject matter. I agree with Roger that the thread shouldn't be locked but I sincerely hope now that it dies a natural death (but not from a LV ). Martin

I've just bought the soundtrack through Amazon MP3 shop. Hayley is used in the same sense that Sissel was used for the Titantic soundtrack. i.e. vocalise. I can understand why Hayley was used. She sounds so beautifully haunting. Since I'm into a bit of light gothic this is my cup of tea, I have to say. There isn't much variation of Hayley's vocalise though. Same melody throughout pretty much, I think Hayley's vocals are being used as a motif. She does feature on many songs, but I don't think it's essential buying for Hayley fans. I think if you want the overall contribution by Hayley, but don't want to buy the whole soundtrack, I'd say track 12 'The Dawn of the Red Moon' is a good representative. You can buy the one song here for 79p. Won't be watching the film though. I never enjoy vampire films, or horror films for that matter. Especially teen tacky ones like this one seems to be. Great score, though!
