Hello everyone, If you've registered with Hayley's official site newsletter, you should have received the following message. ... Yes, I got the email from them, too. I was completely amazed that her "Dark Waltz" wasn't listed as one of the choices for her greatest songs. I mean, c'mon! I'm guessing that any "best of Hayley" compilation will include only songs she is still capable of performing. Unfortunately, "Dark Waltz" is too demanding for her range at this stage, since she never includes it in her concerts... and so it shall likely be unincluded in her upcoming compilation.

Hello Steve, My favourite Hayley tracks are not included in their list either so I added a comment about it before submitting my questionnaire. I think they are probably choosing the most popular Hayley songs as opposed to her best ones. Stephany

... I think they are probably choosing the most popular Hayley songs as opposed to her best ones. Could very well be, Stephany. But it's also true that Hayley's "Dark Waltz" is massively popular if its mega-exposure on YouTube and its use on that network dance competition is any indication. But if Decca are still unconvinced, there's also the self-fulfilling aspect to this: How can it get sufficiently "popular" if she never performs it?

Hi All,
I have also received the email and have noticed that the dates are wrong. 13th July is a Sunday (Orwell Park) and not a Wednesday, for the close.
Good to hear the sample of Songbird.

But if Decca are still unconvinced, there's also the self-fulfilling aspect to this: How can it get sufficiently "popular" if she never performs it? Hi Steve and Stephany and Gordon, I wonder if a pitch change would do it for Dark Waltz? It sounds good to me when I digitally lower the pitch of the entire song by one or even two semitones. I guess Hayley would need to re-record it for the album though - 'the proof of the pudding' and all that - also concert-goers would expect to hear the version on the album. I don't think it will happen, sadly. My guess is that by this questionnaire, Decca are looking for the last few tracks (maybe only one ir two) to add to the compilation and/or they are evaluating the popularity of Songbird, perhaps for a single (speculation!). I would be very surprised if River of Dreams album consisted of four new songs and most of the above list, there seem to be some glaring omissions (and some included that are very much NOT my favourites!). However, I do not think songbird should be a single - this would inevitably invite comparison with the Fleetwood Mac or Eva Cassidy versions and it would get the same kind of hyper-critical treatment from the stuffy brigade as Wuthering Heights. Leaving it as just an album track would be better, I think - it's nice! As with WH, many will disagree! Cheers, Dave

Okay that "songbird" clip just won me over to this album. Stunning! It fits Hayley's voice gorgeously... this is exactly the type of song I think is perfect for her. I can't wait to download it!!

Hi all, After this thread started, and the announcement, about her Best of album to release in November, the UK promotional Tour, there is one thing in my mind............... Having seen Hayley perform, now 6 times.....seeing, and hearing how her voice is growing, i have the idea that all the songs one these album will be re-recordings........don't ask me why!

... i have the idea that all the songs one these album will be re-recordings........don't ask me why! Why? Oh sorry, you said don't ask! That is an interesting idea, Joyce, and it would be fascinating for dedicated fans like us to compare each newly recorded track with its earlier counterpart. But the - can I call them - "ordinary" fans may chose not to buy another album containing tracks that they already have, even if they are new versions. I therefore think it is unlikely to happen. Bearing in mind the time, money and effort needed to arrange the songs, record them and mix them, I suspect it would be more beneficial from Hayley's point of view to concentrate on songs that she has not previously recorded. It is relatively inexpensive to produce an album of existing recordings and *could* be done with no additional input from Hayley whatsoever. For what it's worth, my guess would be that the great majority would be a compilation of previously recorded material with, perhaps, one or two new songs as an incentive to large numbers of people to buy the album. As ever, we shall just have to wait and see. Hi Dori, We haven't heard whether the album will be available outside the UK (other than as an import). I will endeavour to find out. Roger

Well, I've filled it in and chosen Songbird and The Water is Wide mostly because I don't have those on CD. I also mentioned the Japanese album and four songs that I would have included in a "Best Of", Listen to the Wind, Sonny, Last Rose of Summer and On My Heart. But to be honest, my if I were to list the 12 songs that I would put on a Best of CD, it would be very different to the list we were presented with. I might choose a couple of them, but that's about all. Actually, that's quite a good idea for a new thread. We could ask which 12 Hayley tracks we would include on a Best of Hayley compilation. You never know, sombody from UCJ might even read it! I won't start it now though, because I would need time to think about my choices, and am off on holiday tomorrow.
