Hi Chantelle, I thought it was. Wouldn't it be nice if Hayley did an eclectic album like that. I'd love to here her sing some Gershwin, Ellington, Porter, Dylan, Carly Simon, Carole King, and others. Larry

Well Peter, we would sure appreciate a fresh face in the U S. I think Hayley needs to spread her musical wings and do something new as I mentioned. Hayley is capable of singing any type of music she desires to. She can't keep touring the U K singing the same songs forever. Larry

Hey guys,
I travelled to Gloucester last night to see Vanessa-Mae in concert, and to my great surprise, All Angels came on to sing three songs (they were not advertised). They sang Barcorelle and The Flower Duet, but they also sang new song 'Blowin' in the Wind' from their new album and it was absolutely beautiful. If you haven't heard it yet, you have a lot to look forward to. Beautiful song, beautiful rendition.
It was an outdoor concert, and it was pouring with rain, but they lifted my spirits right up. I wasn't so impressed with Vanessa-Mae though; we left after her fifth song. :/

Hello Nicola! I think you missed the second half of All Angels' performance. Dazza has posted a report on the AAI Forum HERE. In case you haven't noticed, there's a new image of the album cover at HMV: Richard

Hi Nicola,
All Angels were a late addition to the line up, I only knew myself a month or so ago. I wasn't familiar with Vanessa Mae so All Angels was the only reason I was there.
I arrived at the Arboretum at around 4pm so I heard most of the sound check and I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it all not, Vanessa and her band sounded very techno which isn't really my sort of thing.
The orchestra was stuck right at the back of the stage so that there was room for Vanessa's band which I didn't like, that style still isn't my cup of tea but I overall I was impressed with Vanessa, she is certainly talented with the violin.
I am sorry that you left as I thought that the second half was much better than the first, the orchestra was more involved and the rain cleared up too.
If you follow Richard's link then you will be able to read my report and look at the photo's that I took.

Hey Dazza,
I am sorry to have missed them, but I think in our case, we came completely unprepared, were incredibly uncomfortable: (soaking wet, with no chairs, a saturated blanket, in summer clothes, and a flimsy umbrella). We also only have five hours sleep the night before, and it was a long drive there, and it was going to be a long drive back. The concert started over 30 minutes late, and we told ourselves we would leave at 9.30pm at the latest. Assuming that the show started at 7.30, which it should have done, it was a reasonable calculation. Another factor was 'Sabre Dance' and 'Roxene's Veil' were the songs I were hoping for, and she played them straight away! I would also have liked to hear 'I'm A Doun' but we were pretty sure that if we stayed any longer, we would catch swine flu or something. XD
Anyway, all of these factors led us to leave early, and I have been a big fan of Vanessa for a long time, but we didn't find Vanessa engaging at all (our discomfort might have been the reason for this, but I loved All Angels!). I already knew of all of her talents, but it seemed to me that they are best left on CD. :/
Anyway, thanks for the report and the photos! We did enjoy ourselves in a strange way. Lol. x x

I am SO excited for this album. There are going to be some great tracks on here. I am also super excited to hear "Sleep" as I've played and heard many of Eric Whitacre's music and it's gorgeous.

Looking forward to hearing their version of Bob Dylan's Blowin' In The Wind. I also like Black Is The Colour. Christy Moore does a great version... www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKBNmU4Gy58

Hayley is capable of singing any type of music, but breaking America is very tough, as many artists have discovered. This album could help the Angels be successful in America. Although they seem to be drifting from the classical genre. Hayley seems to be doing that too. Personally, I would prefer Hayley (and the Angels) to record more classical than she has been lately.

Hi Nicola, I understand your reasons for going. If it wasn't for All Angels I may have considered it myself with the weather. I saw the girls performing at Delamere last month, compeletely unprepared for rain as it wasn't forecast but in the second half the heavens opened and I got absolutely drenched. The two concerts I have been to since, including yesterday's I have made sure that I have been prepared with waterproofs, and it is good job as it rained at both... don't you love the British summertime? We know a member of the National Symphony Orchestra who came to speak to us in the queue, he told us that it would be an 8.00pm start and was completely unaware of the advertised time of 7.30pm which gives the impression that it has been 8pm for some time. I have quite a bit of expeience with Forestry Commission concerts and nothing surprises me anymore. Irish-Hayley-Fan, I heard All Angels sing 'Black is the Colour' at a concert in Shrewbury back in February. It was very beautiful and is more similar to the version by Cara Dillon. Dazza

This album could help the Angels be successful in America. Although they seem to be drifting from the classical genre. Hayley seems to be doing that too. Personally, I would prefer Hayley (and the Angels) to record more classical than she has been lately. I think the problem may be that Hayley and groups like All Angels arent really classical - they are classical crossover. This may sound like splitting hairs, but I dont think it is. There is a lot of classical music out there which for one reason or another simply isnt suitable for a crossover artist. It may be too heavy for mass consumption, too technically difficult to sing (or spend all that time learning how to sing anyway). It may be as simple as trying to find good arrangements. One thing which has always struck me is that there is a considerable overlap in the repertiores of crossover singers - you will find for example that Sarah Brightman, Hayley Westenra and Charlotte Church has all performed a number of the same pieces. This suggests to me that either the actual availaible matieral for the genre isnt there, or at least the people responsible for making those choices perceive it that way (which amounts to much the same thing). In any event, I think that there is already a general rule that most crossover singers will eventually drift towards the mainstream over time Jon
