Thanks for your review, Natalie! There's a photo gallery at What's On Stage. The site doesn't allow me to post the photographs, so click on the link to see them. Richard

Hello Stephany
Only just got round to watching the video's of Hayley's performances. I particularly like "All I Ask Of You" which I thought was absolutely stunning. If ALW doesn't offer Hayley the Part of Christine in Phantom 2 I'll be very surprised.
I loved the other two as well, "Whistle Down The Wind" is a lovely song and not performed enough in my opinion. so I hope we get to hear more of these from Hayley in the future.
Lots of Love Grant xxx

Lots of Love Grant xxx I agree with both your thoughts there Grant. Now, do you think the song appeals to her as a song, or could it possibly be because the film is derived from the book written by Mary Hayley Bell, the mother of the young star in the film, Hayley Mills from which our Hayley derives her own name? Thanks Graham for the links, Hayley really does nail "All I ask of You" on the head. I was really impressed.
Did you know that this song was sung by Raoul in "Phantom of the Opera" and Lee was understudy to this part a few years ago?

There's really going to be another Phantom of the Opera play? That would be so exciting if Hayley could star in it! Josh Groban could be the Phantom! Although Lee Mead would be okay, too. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI've said before that starring in a stage production like Sarah Brightman did could very well increase Hayley's popularity in America! Especially since Phantom is such a popular show! But wouldn't she have to tour around with the show? That would take a lot time out of her schedule, but I guess it would be worth it! It wouldn't be much different than touring with Celtic Woman. I wouldn't miss it for anything if the show came to Seattle! But who knows, maybe he won't really choose her.

Hi Joyce, Yes, I think that's a pretty good idea. A tribute album to ALW with all the songs sung by Hayley, including perhaps the new one he promised to write for her a few years back. I have been poking around on the web today looking for reviews of this concert. It is strange. Hayley was the only female singer to sing three songs, and Lee was the only male singer to do likewise. I could guess that ALW was very impressed with Hayley's performance at the Classical Brits, which is how she came to be invited to sing in the park. All I Ask of you was a similar type of performance to the Brits, but with a different partner. She did a dry run for it at Lincoln with Aled, but whereas Hayley had been learning the song, Aled had been to busy doing other things to learn it fully, hence the sheet music. Despite that, I though that that song was the highlight of the Lincoln concert. She really does sing AIAOY beautifully. But despite Hayley being the most prominent female singer in the ALW concert, the reviewers hardly mentioned her, instead talking about the shortness of Joss Stone's skirt and Elaine Paige, Idina etc.. In terms of the female soloists who performed, it seems Hayley was mentioned least. Why was that? From what I have seen of the vids, her performance was first class. But it always seems to happen. You could easily get the idea that the media have something against Hayley. Martin

Martin I'm glad you said that Martin......I was saying to Marianne earlier today that I had the feeling that Hayley stole the show & now I really do believe she did. (I admit tho, I wasn't there) Graeme

you can't tell me Hayley can't hit high notes anymore! It sounded pretty high at the end to me. Yes Libby, its best not to take any notice at all about what others say about Hayley.....just listen to her. I nearly fell off my chair after 'All I Ask of You'. Graeme Hello Graeme and all! I am assuming that you and Libby are referring to a couple of things I have written - I seem to be perceived as the resident critic here . I do listen to her. What I heard here was a truly outstanding performance.... It is worth noting (as I did note ) that she also nailed a very strong finish on Amigos Para Siempre.....at the same time, she dropped the end of All I Ask of You about a third when she performed it with Aled Jones a few weeks ago, and I heard that as well. To flesh out what I said on the Don Black thread, a single note at the end of that song was enough to make me reconsider a couple of things. She had fallen IMHO into a pattern which actually lasted for several years of re-arranging songs to avoid high notes. (Check out any recent performance of Hine e Hine and compare it to the version she sang on her concert DVD) It seems possible now that this pattern is beginning to break - not only did she hit the notes here, and on APS as well, but she did so with considerable quality and apparant ease. The composer is great. His products proved that Music itself is useless sometimes if it lack good spirit in. For example; The film ¡°Jesus Christ superstar¡± music itself wasn¡¯t so great, but, because it highlight Jesus, Lyrics caused this film music great. Amazingly, this power could transfer to his other music, Let his music could get some honor beyond his ability.

Thanks for the YouTube links, Graham! Hayley certainly gave a fabulous performance of 'All I Ask Of You', but Lee Mead came in too early and had to sing the first line twice. The BBC might edit that out in the broadcast on 10th October. Richard

Jon Hi Jon, Yes, I agree. I first noticed her economising on her stunning high notes as early as November 2004. When I saw her for the first time in April of that year there were lots of high notes, in November they were much less apparent. I think that this might have had something to do with "taking care of her voice". I have heard it is a bad thing to try to use too much power too soon, but I'm not sure that applies to high notes. Or perhaps because her voice was maturing, she was not confident at that time that she was able to reach them. Perhaps now her voice is settling down a bit, she feels more confident. She certainly uses a lot more power these days. I had assumed that she had lost some of her range, but perhaps not as much as I had thought. Martin

Hi Folks
Should have given you a review but I think you have had enough! This evening to me was not anywhere near as good as the Don Black event and I have a feeling Hayley might have stood in for Connie Fisher on at least one of those duets? So sad she and Jonathan did not reprise Amigos Para Siempre but have a feeling I know why and we may find out at the Festival of Remembrance if not this weekend at Music on Fire?
Anyway just wanted to clear up some rumours about the new Phantom - 'Love Never Dies' The Phantom has slipped away to New York and has set up a fairground world on Coney Island, along with Madame Giry and her daughter, Meg. He organizes a concert in Manhattan for Christine, the object of his desire. Christine travels to the U.S. with her husband Raoul and their teenage son, who happens to be a musical genius…just like the Phantom.”
So this is set at least 15 years after the end of Phantom of the Opera so it is highly unlikely that anyone as young as Hayley, Josh Groban, Lee Mead or for that matter Rydian will be in it unless they are playing the son?
