Aw, how sweet! If the date is correct, that makes them about 15, 11 and 9. Sophie looks happy! Thanks for posting it Belinda and well done for getting so many people on Hayley alert!

Hi Belinda,
This is an excellent photo! Wow... that would make Hayley approx. 15 years old then, with Sophie about 12, and Isaac about 9.
Did you ever see the video coverage of Hayley singing 'Broadway' when she was 8, in the Christchurch shopping mall? She was so young and animated! You could see from that clip, that she was born to be on the stage! I have this, along with various other clips of Hayley at various ages. I have a lovely one of her singing Phil Collins' 'Groovy Kind of Love' when she was 11. Her voice had really developed by the time she had reached 11, huh?

Hi Andrew, i sure did see her sing Lulluby of Broadway age 8 , I was at the Mall when she sang it and took the video of her. Yes she was fantastic back then and has gone from strength to strength.
And Groovy kind of Love if it was the same one is one i recorded too but of the telly this time.Back in 2000
Now you've got me listening to Walking in the Air that was her first album not commercially released "Awesome "cd. I think Hayley was 14 when she sang at that festival.
Sophie is supposed to be singing there in February this year,
Belinda

Hi Belinda,
I take my hat off to you... So it was YOU who made those videos available for us? If that's the case, apart from Hayley's immediate family, that must make you her longest standing fan then? (have you ever sat down? Heh! Heh!)
What a real joy it must have been to watch her grow...

Indeed, Belinda has supplied a lot of Hayley material - videos, photographs, press scans and personal stories - going back to a time long before any of us had ever heard of Hayley! It's not my story to tell so I won't say too much but Belinda first came to know the Westenras because her daughter went to the same school as Hayley and Sophie. So Andrew, I couldn't help but chuckle when you asked Belinda last night if she had seen the video of 'Broadway' knowing that she took it! Is it too late to nominate Belinda for a BAFTA? Roger

Hi Belinda, Richard and Roger! Ha-Ha! Yes- re: my question to Belinda about, 'Broadway'... I'm finally getting to know everybody- WOW! How very exciting indeed... It's great to talk to "high profile" Hayley fans. This Website is definitely the, "Real McCoy"!!! Belinda, various other clips came into my possession, including, Hayley singing 'Amazing Grace' on 'Good Morning America' when Gerald was travelling with her, in addition to a number of NZ TV features including the 'long distance satellite TV interview' from March 2004 (?) between Hayley and Jill. Are you responsible for sourcing those too? (I didn't pick up any of your clips from this website). A friend of a friend's friend provided me with some of these. They most probably came from one of the Hayley websites... (via YOU!) Andrew

Hi everyone,
I've just been watching the 'Groovy Kind of Love' clip again- that's my favourite one... It made me cry!
If that was recorded in August 2000, Hayley would have been about 13 years and 4 months old! She was very mature for her age, wouldn't you agree?

Hehe Andrew, Interesting discussion you raised! Groovy Kind of Love was on the first tape Belinda sent to me ever from NZ - and I had the pleasure of digitising it - but it was a challenge. When Belinda sent me that tape, she already told me that it was an amateur recording. And it was a real challenge . But it did teach me a lot about video coding. In fact, it was that video that just about taught me everything I needed I cut out various segments then, did noise reduction etc. Is anyone interested in obtaining coverage of the full 3:30 prior to editing I still have that file in both mpeg1 and mpeg2 format Cheers, Gerrit

Whatever it was you extracted originally... I love archiving old "raw" stuff like that! It's a real treasure, that video... Cheers, Dave

Haha, Wow what alot of excitment. A couple of things i need to correct. Richard RWHW i'd say is Gerrit and my site since i started it. It was named that ,as when i started it Hayley was not well known but Russell was so i thought people would go there for Russell and Leave with Hayley so to speak (sneaky thats me ) Roger Kim did not go to the same school as the Westenra's. But we first met them at talent Quests, auditions and they had been at three of the talent and model agencies kim had been at.and also Canterbury Opera youth. re date of photo The festival is held in February before Hayleys birthday so she would have been 14. Hayley singing Groovy kind of love was at a mediathon we went to watch it, and then my daughter got up and sung as well , there was a band there called fab three we had met through the modeling and shows my daughter had been in.so they decided to do backing for her .Funny enough one of the members of the band was a judge at the talent quest we are talking about at Hornby mall.i had left the video on at home that is how i got Hayley and Sophies performance. there was a lot of problems with the recording static etc ,if i remember rightly Hayley had to start the song a few times. Gerrit on the same tape there was a giant kiwi dancing in a circle with a lot of kids,Isaac was one of them. The station was a local one and they really were having problems that day. ok i've finished Yes they are great videos to have.

Hi Belinda, Thanks so much for taking the time to explain how you got to know the Westenras, in addition to the story behind 'Groovy Kind of Love'! Fascinating!!! Would you be willing to pen the second volume/ sequel to 'HW The World at Her Feet'? I would be willing to pay a very healthy sum of "candies" for that! Incidentally I believe you guys are 13 hours ahead of UK time, in Christchurch, NZ (I know because I Emailed Fiona Pears at New Year!) Well, at 10pm (your time) on the evening that you go to see Hayley in concert, I'll be walking in to sit one of my 5 law exams (I've returned to University after graduating 9 years ago and then working in an IT post for 7 years!) I'm kind of dreading these exams... For sure, I'd much rather be with you in NZ... Maybe you will spare me "a passing thought" Ha-Ha! I'd really appreciate that... Did you see the "disORIENTed" joke, in the "Hayley Humour" post, on the Website, huh? I take it you saw that one? I liked it a lot! Incidentally I would imagine that Hayley is quite up on outwardbound expeditions/ orienteering... If she got lost, she wouldn't need a whistle she could just sing a capella!!! Thanks again Belinda- I really appreciate the time you took to write for us. Andrew
