In one of our Local Cd stores called The CD & DVD Store they have a recommendation sheet they recommend two female singers Hayley and Anika Moa, about hayley they say this. Hayley Westenra's career is constantly on the rise: and she's still just a teenager! Odyssey is the follow up to her internationally acclaimed Pure.Westenra's voice is capable of straddling pop and opera, moving from ballads to intense, dramatic classical works. Unlike other classical singers she doesn't force vibrato in to her pop performances, allowing the notes to sound off naturally. In that sense it's less appropriate to compare her to Charlotte Church than Barbra Streisand.Odyssey will be the album that lifts Westenra up on to the next level of the international stage.released August 8th 2005

Thank you for finding the article Kimberly! It's good to see Hayley being recognised as an international superstar, and it's even nicer to see that she can still find time to expand her wonderful charity work. I'll never forget Hayley's appearance at the Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre last month. Bye for now, Richard

Hi All, The Close Up and Headliners videos Belinda mentioned can now be downloaded. The Close Up interview was broadcast on the evening of the launch of Odyssee, and there were live switches to that concert. Right-click to download (13.4 MB): www.hayley-westenra-international.net/hwi/clips/zo05/closeup080805.wmvThere were three references to Hayley on Headliners during August. I decided to make one video out if it: (16.4 MB): www.hayley-westenra-international.net/hwi/clips/zo05/headliners0805.wmvI also received the radio interviews Belinda mentioned - but my first attempt at capturing the sound did not result in any useful mp3. I have to experiment a little with those. Belinda also sent the Australian TV appearances (they were on Channel 9). These videos are already available from the HWI site, so I decided not to upload them myself. There's an interesting story though. There are Australian news items scrolling along the bottom. One is about the 3rd cricket test between England and Australia, how the Australian captain Ricky Ponting had secured a draw on the last day by scoring a century. Now ... the unusual thing is, I know Ricky Ponting in person from my time in Australia. 10 years ago, I was living in Launceston, Tasmania - and he already was a member of the Australia cricket team then - and he live in ... Launceston! Very interesting experience that, to see the name of a person you personally know scroll across the screen of a Hayley video ....

Hello Gerrit and Belinda! Thank you for the excellent clips. I particularly enjoyed the Headliners video, and Hayley still sounded great in spite of her cold. That proves she's a true professional! See you both on 22nd September. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBye for now, Richard

In the weekend Christchurch Press 3-4 September There was an article by a Rosa Shiels
She was talking about a new book out by Lisa J Ashton called Popstars and Idols:The recipe to success. The author says You need the courage, you need the dream, you need the information and you need to know that its hugely luck. then Hayley gets a mention.
If your lucky and talented, you might, like Hayley Westenra,be spotted by an entrepreneur who will fast-track you to fame. You have to be prepared for the ride, though and willing to follow their advice about your career. Which is not to say that you don't get to have your own say.Westenra is pursuing her own star and lately she has added another dimension to performing by writing songs. Her music lessons were invaluable, she said while in Auckland recently to promote her second album,on which she has her first writing credit. "I play the piano and I'm learning guitar,"Westenra said"i learned the violin for about a year as well and that helps'.It all adds to your musical knowledge." As far as the voice goes her advice is to follow your heart but not neglect the lessons you learn along the way.Just trust yourself and have faith in your own ability to work out what is right for you.Don't have a singing teacher who will come in and mould your voice and say 'this is the way to sing'if it doesn't feel comfortable. It should be an instinctual thing. Iv'e had a number of different teachers and i didn't spend that long with any of them.I picked up little things, little tips, and processed them all.I didnt' stick by one teachers advice.I took what i felt was right---- the best of it all. And she is happy to have found her own style. It just seems to be right,to feel comfortable. And thats the most important thing in singing-It needs to be comfortable.
i seem to remember saying more or less what it says above in a letter (rather long letter) after WITA's release i said to Hayley listen to what everyone has to say then pick and choose from it. And about a year or so later,Hayley spoted my daughter Kim and i at her school and she came over and thanked me for the letter and apoligised for not replying what a great memory.
