Great article! Hayley once again comes across as a mature, capable, and smart individual.
And I second what everybody said about the pictures: they're exquisite!
Thanks so much for providing these!

This article was in the Christchurch Press 24/12/05 Photo by Dominion Post Girl Next Door One To Note Our hometown starry dream is all grown up but she still seems like the sweet girl next door. The Press talks to HAYLEY WESTENRA about being naughty and secret crushes. TWO MINUTES WITH HAYLEY WESTENRA Hello Hayley, congratulations on your achievements this year. You seem to go from strength to strength? How has 2005 been for you?HI! well, It's certainly been a rollercoaster ride.I have managed to fit in the recording and release of a new album.Odyssey, promotion for it and many, many concerts. I also went on my first Unicef field trip, to Ghana, which was a moving and life-changing experience.I'm living such a varied and fulfilling life, I feel very privileged. I'm not saying it isn't hard work, because it can be, but i cherish the fact that i'm getting to live out my dream. You have become a bit more of a tabloid fixture this year. But your behaviour always seems impeccable. Haven't you done anything naughty?Of Course, I haven't....I'm a good girl --- although the hairdresser across the road from me is a little suspicious of my behaviour. Mum and i arrived home late one night, well around 4am actually, from a get-together with the All Blacks after their fantastic win against England, and were dropped off at the end of our street. Lo and behold, the hairdressing salon was open, clients and all. So, we're thinking, this ia a little bizarre, but it turned out he was having a party out the back of the salon and had offered to give someone a haircut. Meanwhile, he's wondering what we're doing walking the streets alone so late! I think it was the Sun that did a splash on you having a secret love interest in the UK? A fellow celeb it thought? Is there anything you'd like to tell us.All i'll give you is that he's not a UK citizen. Oooh, it's not Enrique Iglesias is it?No, I'll give you more credit than that. Go on tell us who you secretly fancy. We won't tell. Who would be your dream date? You'll keep it a secret, eh? Sorry,I'm not budging on this one...you'll have to keep guessing. Umm, Ricky Martin? No? Your often compared to Charlotte Church. Do you know her and is she really potty-mouthed, as she was described here during the Lions tour? Journalists still bring her up in interviews, but fortunately i now have built my own identity. I have only met her once a few years ago, but she was a little pre-occupied with texting her boyfriend who was waiting in the car outside so i don't have much to tell. You come across as lovely, fresh-faced and quite wholesome. Do you feel constricted with your public image.Does it reflect who you really are? It's hard being perfect--I know i struggle. Do you ever feel, as i do, like reinventing yourself and becoming some saucy pop temptress? I'm relatively happy with my public image. There's always going to be the odd misconception, but i have no need to rebel against anything if that's what your hinting at. You've done loads of travelling. Where do you go in London in your spare tome. If you have any? Yes, I have done a lot of travelling, but generally i don't have a lot of spare time to shop, other than at the airport (and that novelty wears off pretty quickly). I'm always missing New Zealand's landscape, the space and fresh air, so in London, I love getting amongst the trees in the parks, especially Holland Park if i get the chance, and walking down by the river Thames. Unfortunately there are no beaches, but it's the best London can offer. It's far more therapeutic than shopping. What are your fans like when you meet them? Any scary moments? Most are wonderfully positive and enthusiastic... I have some lovely fans running fansites and doing whatever they can to support me.There are a few who are a little too "enthusiastic" ,to put it subtly, but that comes with the territory. What big plans do you have for 2006? A New Zealand tour and one with ll Divo too? Are they hunky or what?(Good singers too of course). Well, first of all, I'm touring New Zealand in January which I'm very much looking forward to --it's been a while. Then i hit the road with, yes, the very charming ll Divo boys, although i don't know about their plans to tour New Zealand. So yes, a whole four months of touring worldwide with them (sorry ladies!)... my life is tough. Then more solo touring around Japan,Germany,UK,and America is lined up, plus a lot more on top of that i expect, as usual. I believe you arrive home for Christmas on Christmas Day? What will you be doing. What are you hoping Santa will bring?Yes. I can't wait. I'm counting down the days until i leave for Christchurch. I miss my family and friends SO much. I really couldn't care less...being at home with the people i love will be enough for me. Although...

Thanks for this, Belinda! Some interesting bits revealed here. I like Hayley's story about arriving back at the flat w/ her mum at 4 AM and noticing the hair salon open and serving customers!
And what about Hayley's secret love interest? I thought the interviewer was a little over the top here. Hayley fanices a man who isn't a UK resident. Whoever he is I trust he'll support Hayley 100 per cent.
Hayley said this when asked about her fans..."I have some lovely fans running fansites and doing whatever they can to support me." That's HWI to a T...LOL.

Hmmm, and I wonder if that "over-enthusiastic" comment was a subtle hint to some of us out here to step back a bit, which I think we're all willing to do if Hayley needs her space as she grows up. We all care about her, but if the best way to show it is by stepping back, we should.

Sadly, the occasional over-enthusiastic fan is inevitable. I don't believe for a moment Hayley was referring to anyone with HWI. She, her family, and Steve are always so welcoming towards us that Hayley is clearly happy to see any of us.

I echo those sentiments Roger - Hayley clearly separated "normal" support and enthusiasm from the "abnormal" - presumeably that which goes completely over the top or tries to intrude into her private life. I'm not aware of anyone in here like that - but we know that there ARE a few people out there who try to do exactly that. In fact, there have been two such incidents recently that I am aware of. In the extreme case, before a concert, prompt, decisive and very reassuring action WAS taken (Roger knows what I am referring to ) and there may have been other incidents of which we are unaware. As you know Steven, highly inappropriate behaviour is not tolerated by us when we become aware of it and obviously, that applies equally to Hayley's management and family. Dave

That was a good interview, thanks Belinda, It was good to hear that Hayley plans some concerts in the UK sometime after the four month Il Divo tour, I will look forward to that. It is a little sad to think that a very small minority could possibly spoil it for the vast majority of Hayley's followers who respect her privacy, particularly the HWI ones who are impeccable! It would be a shame if Hayley felt that she had to stand back a bit from the contact with her true fans, its so refreshing to find such a talented performer who has time for us all, especially after her shows and concerts, even when she is tired she still stays behind and signs the merchandise for us. Please don't change Hayley! Best wishes to the HWI team, thank you for your hard work, we do appreciate it. Steve

Hello Belinda and everybody! That is a very interesting article, but I felt the journalist was out of order in prying into Hayley's private life. I also know about the incident Dave refers to, and it certainly didn't involve any of Hayley's genuine fans. I hope Hayley enjoys her break back home in New Zealand. Best Wishes, Richard

Only a couple of weeks till Hayley's Concert And it is very quiet, i've heard nothing on the radio or tv re the tour, since the articles i posted. The only evidence that there is a concert is a poster outside the town Hall.
And a very nice poster it is. i will have to see if the Townhall has any spares.

Hello Belinda! I'm getting excited for you! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif It would be nice if you could scan the poster for the forum. It will be something nice to look at until I see Hayley again in April! It's going to be a very long winter here in the UK, but hopefully the forum will help to keep my brain active! Best Wishes from London, Richard
