Hi Folks. The bicycles in the photo seem to be of a late 60s early seventies design, Ladies frame in traditional style. The solid bar brakes have been out of use for over thirty years or more in most European countries. I wonder if they are being made locally in Ghana and providing employment and a boost for the economy in the area as well. I love the blue front light.. and the blue frames all to go with UNICEF blue. I am so proud of Hayley for giving her time in this way ! Well done Hayley !

Hi Paul & Thomas, Re the bikes Paul : Hayley mentioned a deal with a European Country for supply & delivery. Almost without a doubt that would be an ex Soviet Block country which explains the lack of design change. Graeme

Japanese language album? Don't believe it folks, HSJS is mostly English. It won't surprise me if the next one is too, even though I love to hear Hayley sing in Japanese.
And yes, as a Christian Aid Organiser of over 20 years standing, it does my heart good to see someone I admire as much as Hayley working to help fight third world disease and poverty. Good on yer Hayley!

Here is another report, this time from Stuff.co.nz. It includes a slightly larger version of the photograph seen in the previous article. This article was on the front page of the Press today. The Photo was under the heading:- Follow the lead singer

And so are all of us Gerald - immensely proud!
I have never really considered this before, but I'm sure that the transparency of Hayley's projects, and seeing almost first hand through Hayley where the money is going, is the main reason why I'm so keen to do my bit.
Interesting?
Best wishes Grant

Of course, it may be different now. Best wishes Grant

Hi folks, Thanks for the input on the bicycles, £15 . 00 each Wow ! Great value! I have for many years thought that the humble bicycle is one of man's greatest inventions. It gave so many people the freedom to travel reasonable distances to work or for leisure in a much shorter time than walking. They would serve you well if maintained properly , used no fuel, could be left aside for years and take up where they left off with just a pumping of the tyres. The reason I commented on the ones in the picture is a design had been arrived at at that stage that could be barely be improved on. Little has changed in modern bicycles except for more advanced gearing, centre pull brakes and suspension on the newer mountain bikes and of course stronger, lighter metals. I had the privilege of riding a penny farthing that was a window display piece in a place I worked. The front wheel was about six foot in diameter and the pedals were linked to it directly . It was hard to balance it , hard to get it moving and even harder to stop it, It was also quite difficult to make a dignified dismount

Hi everyone
I haven't posted on this thread for a while but I did keep a close eye on it during the past few days. I am glad to hear that everything went well in Ghana. What Hayley is doing over there is really inspiring!
I have not been able to contribute financially to any of Hayley's UNICEF projects yet but I am going to start working in January 2009 so I'm definitely sparing an amount of euros for this. Hopefully this will help the children of Ghana to study, get a better life and simply live in dignity.
Stephany

I now have a full set of photographs from Ghana. These were taken in Timale which is about one hour's flight from Accra. These are the pictures that were shown at the Alfred Salter School as a Powerpoint presentation on Wednesday. My thanks to Kathryn at Bedlam Management for making them available and to Stuart for passing them through to me. All photos © UNICEF Ghana/2008/Asselin
