Hi all, Today I received the NZ-version of Hayley’s CD „Pure“ from www.shopenzed.com. This is the 4 th version, I‘ve got. My questions are: Who knows how many different versions of “Pure”-CD exist? Why these different versions exist and what are the reasons of song selections? Greetings, Lothar

Hello again Lothar! I have also got four different versions of "Pure", and I've described them in the "UK: Pure to be re-released!" thread on this board. I don't know how many different versions exist in total, but I do know why "My Heart and I" and "Across the Universe of Time" were omitted from the original UK version. The songs were left off to reduce the non-classical element of the album so it would be eligible for inclusion in the Classical Music charts, and also to allow it to be promoted as a Classical album. Presumably similar rules exist in other countries, but politics could also be a factor. I wonder if there will be several different versions of Hayley's next album? Time will tell! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifCheerio from London, Richard

Let me see if I can get this from memory. 1) Australia and New Zealand 2) UK 3) Asia 4) International (not sure if this was different from Asia) 5) USA 6) New Zealand Special Edition 7) Australia Special Edition 8) UK Special Edition 9) Asia Special Edition I am not sure if the German Edition was different to the rest. Or the one that was released in Sweden. Pretty sure that is the list. But, if I am wrong, I am sure someone weill be able to put us right. Keith.

The full track listing of the German one is as follows: Pokarekare Ana Never Say Goodbye Who Painted the Moon Black River of Dreams Benedictus Hine e Hine Dark Waltz Amazing Grace My Heart and I In Trutina Beat Of Your Heart Across the Universe of Time Heaven Wuthering Heights Roger (that's not one of the tracks!)

Why these different versions exist and what are the reasons of song selections? Greetings, Lothar Some of the reasons for the different versions are stated in Hayley's biography by Paul Little. I reproduce the relevant paragraph here: "There are several versions of Pure for different markets. There was no point, for instance, including 'Pokarekare Ana' and 'Amazing Grace' yet again for New Zealand. Also, the 60 per cent classical requirement was not necessary for Hayley's home country." Hayley is then quoted as saying, "And in Asia, they need as many bonus tracks as possible, so there's extra tracks from my other two albums. That's to make it different, because they've also got imports and the imported ones are cheaper than the local releases." Quotes from....... Hayley Westenra - The World at Her Feet by Paul Little published by Penguin. ISBN 0-14-301926-0 - UK price £12.99. Happy reading! Roger

As far as I can tell there have been 3 UK releases - the one I bought first with the same 14 tracks as the German version you described (label says 'Made in Germany'), the 'Special Edition' that omitted 'My Heart and I' and 'Across the Universe of Time' but added the 'Maori mix' of 'Hine e Hine' (label says 'Made in England), and recently the 2-CD version with extra tracks (which I don't have). I am rather sceptical of multiple versions of a particular CD as they can often be cynical attempts by a record company to generate more sales by including a few new tracks (usually at the expense of others. Fortunately, in the case of Hayley, even if it was their intention anything by her is well worth buying even if many of the tracks are duplicated. David

Hi David, The mystery deepens. Indeed, the version that I purported to be the German CD was bought in England prior to its release in Germany. Shortly afterwards, both Hayley and Steve Abbott were baffled by it. They did not say it was a UK version albeit made in Germany. Somebody (unfortunately I have forgotten who it was) subsequently confirmed that my track listing was identical to that eventually released in Germany. (Could it have been you, Gerrit?) Perhaps we shall never know for sure but it sounds good anyway! Roger

Hello again folks! If you look at the "Music" section on Hayley's official web site, the track listing for "Pure" is for the German-made version, catalogue number 473 300-2, and I found this version in Watford before it was released in Germany. I had already noticed this catalogue number on a poster in several record shops, but it stated the catalogue number may vary according to region. The original UK Special Edition has catalogue number 475 330-2, and I've typed that from memory! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBye for now, Richard

Hi Again....
Does anyone know what version of 'Pure' is the one that contains the bonus vcd with 3 tracks? I ordered this one from Amazon and they have it down as an import.
Cheers,
Emmett.

Hi Emmett, I don't want to worry you but, if this is the one which includes "The Making of Pure" on the bonus vcd, I also ordered it from Amazon many months ago. They were never able to supply it but sent me the so-called German release by mistake (only one disc!). I returned it twice but they replaced it with the same thing both times. I eventually gave up and kept it. So good luck! Roger

arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggg!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for that Roger, fingers crossed they have got them in stock now. False advertisement on their parts but I never had any problems with them before. I wouldnt mind if they were able to swap it for the Australian version with the Xmas bonus now that would be a threat. Cheers, Emmett

Next time I'm up that way, if they still have it, I could get it for you if you like. Roger
