Grace Bawden has done the same, which has left me a bit bored. I don't see why she couldn't make an album too? Expensive to be an independent artist, I guess.

Yes, the first thing you need to do is win ArtistSignal. That $10,000 prize goes a long way towards financing an album and some publicity. That plus the lady's sheer determination did wonders for Rebecca Newman.

In case anyone is interested Faryl Smith will be appearing at the Wight Proms on Sunday 18th August. www.wightproms.co.uk/buy-tickets-2024I will not be attending myself. Not because it's an outdoor event in our inclement Summer where you pay almost £40 to sit on the grass or take your own chair. No, what I object to is the extra £40 charge (well £39.95 plus booking fee) for a "meet and greet" with Faryl. That is not compulsory of course but I have met many singers in my life and I have never been asked to pay so I can shake their hand or stand next to them for 3 seconds to do a "selfie" and I don't intend starting now ! Hayley never did it and I don't expect lesser singers to either but if you are willing to part with £80 and booking fees plus travel costs and risk the British weather then jolly good luck to you ! (Rant over)

Hello Jeff! Quite true about that exorbitant charge for a meet-and-greet! I had a quick look at Wight Proms video from last year and it looks as if the stage is set in someone’s back garden. I understand this year will bring a new seating arrangement but still. Oh look…that was your 2000th post Jeff; I shall mark this grand event (a two-grand event!) on the forum in due course!

I understand this year will bring a new seating arrangement but still. Yes Joe and the stage looks quite small so only room for a small orchestra of about 20 at most. It's not a straightforward journey to the venue for me. Train to Southampton, bus to docks, ferry to Cowes then a mile walk to the venue. You have to weigh the merits of the singer against the hassle and expense of the journey ! If it was Hayley I'd go. I'm sure we all would those of us who live in the south of England. Quite apart from what a meet and greet fee says about a singer's attitude towards her audience, the traffic and crowds on a Sunday in August on the Isle of Wight mean you really have got to want it very badly and I don't !
