Thanks for the history of "How can I keep from singing" Comet. It's my favourite song on the album. I agree with you about Amazing Grace. It's been done to death and I have several versions already !

Oops ! I have been doing more searches and found this on Wikipedia
Makes you wonder who nicked what from whom ?
Did the Baptists nick it from the Quakers ?
"How Can I Keep From Singing?" (listed in some hymnals by the opening line "My Life Flows On") is a Christian hymn written by American Baptist minister Robert Wadsworth Lowry in 1860. The original composition has now entered into the public domain. The song is frequently cited incorrectly[citation needed] as a traditional Quaker hymn.
Pete Seeger learned a version of this song from Doris Plenn, who had it from her North Carolina family. His version made this song fairly well known in the folk revival of the 1960s. Seeger's version omits much of the Christian wording of the original, and adds a verse. Most folk singers, including Enya, have followed Seeger's version.
The song received new prominence in 1991 when Irish singer Enya released a recording of the hymn on her album Shepherd Moons. It was also released as a single in the same year, with Oíche Chiún and 'S Fagaim Mo Bhaile appearing as additional tracks.
It is also sung by Dahlia Malloy (Minnie Driver) in the episode 'Virgin Territory' from Season One of FX's The Riches.
In his radio singing debut, actor Martin Sheen performed this song (using the Seeger lyrics) on A Prairie Home Companion in September 2007.
It has been used on the 2008 Christmas advertisement for the UK supermarket, Waitrose, in a performance by Libera.
Faryl Smith recorded a version of the song for her debut album Faryl, released in 2009.
Apparently there are over 2000 know recorded versions of Amazing Grace. I'd bet thats a low estimate. there must be at least 10 versions referred to on this site by Hayley alone..

A totally unfazed Faryl has just sung the National anthem at Wembley in front of 90,000 people prior to the start of the FA Football Cup Final. Well done.

Well done.Martin Hello Martin and everyone, Yes she did very well, so I thought I'd record the event for all our members who like her. Faryl - God Save The Queen at the FA Cup Final 2009 (DivX 6.8.5, 30 MB) Faryl - God Save The Queen at the FA Cup Final 2009 (Windows Media, 22MB) Big videos, good quality and better than YouTube will be. Notice that Faryl was in shot for much longer than the usual 10 seconds or so singers get during National Anthems at such events, well over half of it and for so long that they didn't even have time to show the Chelsea team (who eventually won!) during the anthem. They also faded back the crowd singing so we could hardly hear the 90-odd thousand. I am sure that it's primarily because of all the recent publicity surrounding her but as a football fan (and I'm not a Chelsea fan!), I don't think it's right. Nice for Faryl fans though! Cheers, Dave

Cheers, Dave Hi Dave. 1. A superb presentation, thank you for your time and trouble. 2. I have to disagree, if they want a singer to sing then the camera should be on the singer. However, your shot is better than the one I had, my irritation was that they showed other things than keeping on Faryl, so which broadcast were you watching? What I had hoped you had recorded was the interview which I came in on towards the end (ITV1). I did wonder if they would give some introduction on the basis for once they thought it ought to be sung by a footballer! She's a former right back in Kettering youth football club. I'll have to hope for a Youtube availability. 3. I then went shopping but came back before the end and did watch. I have to confess the way the ball kicked all over the place was more entertaining than usual. It seems to have been a good match even if the 'wrong' side won. Peter S.

I have to disagree, if they want a singer to sing then the camera should be on the singer. Hi Peter, Ah, but it isn't the television company that wanted a singer to sing. Their role is to cover the event and the singer is only one tiny part of the event. Mind you, if I had my way, Faryl would have given a 90-minute concert and we could forget whatever it was that followed! Thanks for the video, Dave. If it wasn't for that, I would not have seen it because, as you may have guessed, I had no intention of watching the match. In fact, I didn't even know the cup final was today until Gordon told me over breakfast! Roger

Roger Interesting observation, Roger, I thought it was a Faryl event and they brought on some players to rest her voice during the interval!!!!!!!!! :2fun: This explains why I am totally confused. The programme started at 1:00pm but apparently this was so people could talk about what had happened previously, was likely to happen in the future and might happen that afternoon. Then they finally got round to showing what was happening. Funny things football matches This confusion may be because the ball we played with at school was oval, making it much easier to tuck under the arm and run with...! Peter S.

Interesting observation, Roger, I thought it was a Faryl event and they brought on some players to rest her voice during the interval!!!!!!!!! Hi Peter, The point I didn't make very well is that to give the supporting singer (who is there simply to lead the crowd) more prominence during the National Anthem than the competing teams, the watching crowd and the band on the pitch (none of whom you could see or hear properly) is most unusual and in fact, I cannot recall this ever happening before at any such event I've witnessed on TV. It was in my opinion disrespectful to the event, the teams and the band for ITV to do this. Not showing one of the teams at all during the Anthem ( Chelsea) was unforgiveable incompetence.. However, as I said before, it's great for Faryl fans! Cheers, Dave

Hi All,
Just thought I would mention that it was announced at the end of Songs of Praise last Sunday that Faryl would be appearing on next Sundays programme. Songs of Praise BBC 1 Sunday 14th June is scheduled to be shown at 5.30.pm.

Hello everyone, I've just come across something that will interest and amuse those of you who like Faryl, apologies if it's been mentioned previously. Back in April, Faryl appeared in Sky One's "Guinness World Records" TV programme in an attempt to beat the highest number of different languages sung in a single song... and a video of her attempt is now on YouTube. If you don't know if she succeeded or not, watch the YouTube video before you read the article! Faryl's Record Attempt - YouTubeNorthants Evening Telegraph reportAs with most of these Guinness record attempts, just a bit of fun! Cheers, Dave
