Celtic Woman - A New Journey DVD

Hello everybody,

With all the excitement and anticipation about the new Treasure cd coming out in February, one would almost forget the Celtic Woman DVD which is scheduled for release on January 30.

Since I am living in Europe, I am wondering if this DVD will be region free or if there's a region 2 edition available for (pre-)order somewhere.

I know the DVD can be ordered from Amazon.com, but they list the region as "unknown".

Can anyone help?

I would be happy to do that but I have been unable to find a contact address for Manhattan Records and there doesn't appear to be a link from their website.

I have sent an e-mail to [e-mail]. I will see if I get a reply? I remember you telling us at Canterbury that Musical DVD's do not sell well. Celtic Woman is little known outside Eire and thier main market is the USA. I see that their Region 2 DVD "Celtic Woman" ,which pre-dates "A new Journey" has been put back to a 26 Feb 07 release ,so draw your own conclusions.

Hello folks!

Hayley's participation in this DVD is going to create quite a demand outside the USA, so we may need to press Manhattan Records and/or Celtic Woman to issue a Region 0 or 2 version of the DVD. This would be to everybody's benefit, but I feel we should wait for more information about the DVD before turning on the pressure.

Hello,

I have checked hmv.com.hk and found that they have the DVD listed on their site. www.hmv.com.hk/product/dvd_music.asp?sku=704300 It is scheduled to be released on 30 Jan 2007. I think it is Region 0 because I never seen any Region 3 music DVD in HK. I am going to go there and have a look and buy the DVD when it is released.

I Emailed Amazon.com yesterday about this DVD and their reply is reproduced below:-

Hi Richard & all,
I've bought a few DVD's of Hayley's Live in NZ from various sources & systems. Even bought a NTSC one from NZ.
I've had no trouble from our equipment playing any version mainly because all the DVD player manufacturers have got ahead of all that market protection nonsense.
Fortuneately, timed nicely with our discovery of Hayley, our old TV failed & I updated my PC. Plus a small sound system in our bedroom which plays DVDs thru a little tele has appeared.
All of these things don't care what region (we're PAL here) the DVD comes from. They just read it & play.
Rule of thumb is probably if your equipment is 3 years, or even a bit more, old that it'll play.
I was a bit surprised to read this discussion as the region question seems to have become irrelevant?

PS the people to whom we gave these DVD's have also been able to play them...no troubles.

Hello Graeme!

Most modern DVD players and TVs can play DVDs quite happily regardless of whether the system is PAL or NTSC. The problem is with region coding (Regions 1-8). The USA is Region 1, the UK and Europe are Region 2, and Australia and New Zealand are Region 4. Most DVD players are set for one region code only, and will only play discs with that code or region-free discs (Region 0). Hayley's DVD is region-free, so it should play on all DVD players, but as yet we do not know the region coding (if any) of 'Celtic Woman - A New Journey'.

People with multi-region DVD players won't have to worry, because they can play discs with any region code.

REGION 1 -- USA, Canada
REGION 2 -- Japan, Europe, South Africa, Middle East, Greenland
REGION 3 -- S.Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Parts of South East Asia
REGION 4 -- Australia, New Zealand, Latin America (including Mexico)
REGION 5 -- Eastern Europe, Russia, India, Africa
REGION 6 -- China
REGION 7 -- Reserved for Unspecified Special Use
REGION 8 -- Reserved for Cruise Ships, Airlines, etc...
REGION 0 or REGION ALL -- Discs are uncoded and can be played Worldwide, however, PAL discs must be played in a PAL-compatible unit and NTSC discs must be played in an NTSC-compatible unit.

WOW, that would be FANTASTIC NEWS!!!!

Can anyone else confirm this is true?

If so, I'll be confident enough to order the DVD and I will trust it to play on my region 2 player.

Yes Jeroen I have double checked with my player set to region 1 & 2 and it still plays, why do you disbelieve me?

Hi Tony, and thanks for the scans. The DVD looks great!

It's not that I didn't believe you about the region encoding, it's just that some DVD players are region free (or were modified to be region free) and there was a slight possibility that your DVD player is actually region free, even if you didn't know.

Anyway, I found a website this morning which lists the DVD as being region 0, (www.dvd4music.com/onlineshop/details/37510698-4.html) so I guess it is safe now to conclude that

THE NEW CELTIC WOMAN DVD IS REGION 0 !!!

Hi Jeroen

I have now analysed the DVD as follows-



It clearly plays on all regions! My DVD player is very sophisticated in that I can manually change it to any region I want to.

There is now no excuse for members not to get the DVD, why wait until March! I can see no bad lip-synching and it appears very much a live performance, although there must have been a lot of post production as mentioned on the cover/ inserts i.e. There are 3 recording studios mentioned including the famous Abbey Road.
