Thanks Libby! I missed that yesterday, so I've now combined the two threads. Best wishes, Richard

According to Sophie, it seems safe to say there will be more elves involved in the movie plot than in there was in the book. It doesn't surprise me, since the Arwen and Aragorn story was made a bigger deal in the movie than it was in the book. It seems they think people won't like a movie as well if there's no romance involved. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Ooh, thanks letting me know! I haven't had a chance to listen yet... I've just barely watched the video! It is very early to say who's singing now anyway. If Ian MacKellan hasn't been "officially" confirmed as Gandalf yet, then I certainly wouldn't expect any comfirmation on the soundtrack singers, either.

Well, not quite. Even Gandalf apparently can't do much about studio financial issues or actor's strikes. But we've known for a while now that it starts in Feb. 2011. Martin Freeman (Bilbo) said he'll be shooting some of his scenes in Feb., and the rest in "summer" (NZ winter).

Hello Libby! I don't know Sophie's height exactly, but Jill has said she is now taller than Hayley, so she is definitely over 5ft 2in. Richard

Oh, well, I'd prefer her as an elf, not a hobbit lady. Now, spiderman, on the other hand, you might just work out! I mean, as a hobbit, not a hobbit lady.

I mean, as a hobbit, not a hobbit lady. i dont think sophie is quite "hobbit-like". i tend to think of hobbits as being somewhat stocky creatures. and sophie is somewhat elfine; but yes i'd probably manage to be a good hobbit even if i am grumpy enough to be a dwarf... i wonder if an elf/ hobbit romance would be out of line

Apparently over 700 people showed up to try out to be a hobbit today! I didn't know there were that many short people. Too bad I'm not from NZ, because I would qualify! But I don't have a good accent. But I would if I was from NZ!

It's still a rumor at the moment, but it appears that the role Sophie tried out for will be played by Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones, Atonement). According to IMDB, she'll be a "Sylvan Elf who is a part of the Woodland Kings Guard", by the name of Itaril. Ooh, she'll get to work with Legolas! BTW, neither Itaril or Legolas appear in the books. Legolas' father Thranduil, does, though, so they're incorporating him in because of that. I think they just want to increase the "hot" actors as much as they can, to increase the female audience. Which, as I have read, has been a large part of the LOTR movie-going audience. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI've never heard of a Tolkien character named Itaril, so she might be "made up" by PJ and team. Either that, or they found her in one of Tolkien's other works. I've only read The Hobbit and TLOTR trilogy, so I wouldn't know. Despite her being listed as a "rumored" cast member, the fact IMDB lists her as a cast member at all, and even has a description of her character title, leads me to believe this will be more than just a rumor soon. Although slightly disappointed a Westenra won't be taking this role, I do think Saoirse will be good, too. I'm sure her work with Peter Jackson's team in Lovely Bones earned her some points in their book.
