Good, that's very reasonable, Martin. I wish I could go on the excursion!

Have to agree with Martin about waiting for the film. Much as I love the dwarf saga song in the trailer, I'm not sure it would be quite so good out of context. *** Libby, Gollum to me is... well, I think I kinda agree with Frodo, who pities him and kind of loathes him at the same time. Gollum is a horror, but he's not really a horror of his own making. He does try to redeem himself, in his own dark, twisted way. It's hard for me not to have sympathy with him, yet at the same time he's a horrid, treacherous little creep! Ah, dilemma!

There have been tons of "TV spots" lately. I think there are 9 now, most are pretty similar as far as the action scenes, but each one has a slightly different "main scene". I love the one with the dwarves at the end, in Rivendell, and Ori (Adam Brown) looks doubtfully, even suspiciously, at a piece of Romaine lettuce and says "I don't like green food". Dwalin (Graham MacTavish) says "Where's the meat?" and... Gloin, I think, is seen eyeing a morsel doubtfully as well. I call it the dwarf's version of "Where's the beef?" LOL It was hilarious, and I can't wait to see all of these funny moments in the movie! I also like the one where they show Bilbo doing his eyes funny. I can't describe it very well. I'll have to try to find it!

Hello Libby! It could be worse. If it was a Beatles film, a week would be eight days! Richard

Haha, you do know how to make one feel better, don't you! All the videos and news from the movie are helping. Well, at least now it's only 4 days. Only 2 more work days, then I get Wed. off, but I'm waiting for my sister's Christmas break to start. These days the schools start and end the break in the middle of the week! They never did that when I was in school... which of course, was ages ago! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

I just saw it yesterday with a friend! Awesome! My local Minneapolis newspaper critic didn't think it passed muster but it just goes to show that you can't always go by the so-called experts. I won't give anything away, but there are some touching moments including a couple of good scenes with Cate Blanchett as the Lady Of The Woods. From what I remember from the book, the movie was mostly faithful to it. Enjoy all..... when you get a chance.

Ah yes, Figwit. I know all about that, and just about any other detail you might know, I most likely already know. I've seen so many photos and trailers and TV spots, that I almost feel as though I've seen half of it already! But I'm sure that's barely scratching the surface, since it's nearly 3 hours long!
Does he sing or play music or something? I know he was supposed to be a "musical elf".

Hmm... does he play any instruments? Maybe they decided not to bother with his musicality. LOL Or maybe that will be in the extended version... or maybe it will be in the last movie, when the journey is over and Bilbo is heading home.

I saw it today!! It was wonderful! And I want to go see it again! I'm already trying to figure out when I might be able to see it again. If I do, I might have to go alone. I don't think my sister will want to pay for it again till it hits the cheap ticket theater. I'm not sure if I can wait that long; it's usually 2 or 3 months! The back stories on the dwarves were great, and I was excited to see Thranduil the Elven King. I think the guy looks perfect for the role, and the costuming is great. I loved that he was riding an elk or moose, or whatever it was! And of course, I loved Bilbo and all the dwarves and Gandalf. Gollum was great, too, and the Goblin king was so much weirder and funnier than I imagined. I'm also very glad they added Radagast. He's very quirky and funny (as is Sylvester McCoy himself), and I love all the little animals and birds (poop and all), especially the rabbits of Rosgobel! But it was so sad when the poor little hedgehog died. There were a few scenes that weren't quite the same as the book, but they were still funny and/or exciting. A couple of the changes I could understand, but some I didn't see why they had to change. I'm not a Tolkien "purist" by any means, but once you read something a certain way in one of your favorite stories, and don't see it portrayed quite right in the movie, it's a little disappointing. But not so disappointing that it affected my enjoyment of the movie! Now, after seeing the glimpse of Smaug the dragon at the end, I'm even more anxious for it to be December 13, 2013! LOL It really is a fantastic movie! Very funny, exciting, suspenseful, etc. There's never a slow or dull moment, at all! When I peeked at my watch once, I was shocked that it had already been 2 hours! It goes by fast, even though it's a long movie. I think even people who don't know the book would enjoy it too, more so than the LOTR probably. The LOTR is very long and there's lots of stuff going on that non-Tolkien fans wouldn't quite understand (I know from experience). Not so in The Hobbit. Everything they show is explained somehow, either by the characters themselves, or with flash back stories. The story is much more adventurous, rather than all the dire, evil stuff surrounding the Ring. The song by Neil Finn during the credits didn't disappoint me, after all. Like I said, it's no May it Be, but then.. I don't think this was a May it Be story, so that's okay.
