The time I spend on this particular work varies, I'm in the middle of several portraits and a painting for my shows, so whatever time I get I devote to Hayley. To date I have spent probably 20 hrs total on this portrait.

Hi "artist1", That's excellent news! I would be interested to hear what type of medium you like working with best. Would I be right in saying that you enjoy working with pastels most of all? I will be contributing to this thread very soon too... I enjoy drawing, painting and sculpture. I've been working on some Hayley sculptures for quite some time... I will post up some photographs of some of my recent work soon... Andrew i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Sounds wonderful, I like woking in pastels when it comes to portraits, I find I can blend them well, I don't use them in the traditional sense which some artists and judges don't like but it is my own style and that is important to me, Oils are actually my favorite but very time consuming and take a long time to dry, at some point in my life I wish to do a sculpture of myself along with a triple self portrait, if I can ever find the time.

Hi "artist1", Thank you for your very prompt response to my enquiry! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI can see that you have given a lot of consideration to the colour and texture of the paper which you have used for your pastel portrait of Hayley. This first step is so crucial isn't it? It makes such a difference to the overall mood which the finished painting portrays. Your choice of coloured paper is excellent for this painting - the colour of the paper shows through the pastel work and really lifts the painting. It really helps to bring out the richness of the skin tones too! Andrew

Hey everyone... I just wanted to share something I started last night and finished this morning (it was a real pain because I had finished the right side first, and had to cover it up with paper so I wouldn't smudge it as a drew the left side). It was supposed to be a portrait of somebody on Flickr, but ended up looking nothing like her, so I won't post a link to the original shot. I used my wonderful new Moleskine notebook (which is apparently the same notebook that Van Gogh and Picasso sketched in -- how can an anspiring artist resist buying something like that?). It was expensive but overall very convenient and high-quality. Love, Oksy

WOW Oksy, that is a wonderful portrait. Her face is really "alive". She is beautiful but with an underlying feeling of pathos.
Your talents are clearly not limited to photography and pottery. Van Gogh and Picasso would be proud to think you sketch in their notebook!

Thank you so much Grant, Roger, and Paulo! I'll admit I'm not very confident when it comes to drawing, so your comments do mean a lot and they make a big difference! Love, Oksy
