Hi Lads, As kids we had planes with JETEX Engines, they were jet engines with little round solid fuel tablets that were ignited by fusewire, The engines were so powerful they would fly on their own without a model plane attached, they were a bit hard to find afterwards though, lost mine in the grass somewhere, I think they were banned in the end because they were a little teeny weeny bit dangerous, but thats why we liked them. Comet I don't believe this, Comet! What extraordinary parallels we are running here. I remember those but mine were attached to a helicopter. The trouble was the body wasn't heavy enough to stay rock steady as the wings lumbered up to the right speed for take off. It was jolly dangerous indeed and my dad, I think somewhat disappointed that his superb birthday present for his son required the almost suicidal holding of the helicopter in his hand before release. It did take off, more or less vertically, but this was before the days of reasonable-cost radio controls. Regretfully it didn't last very long as its landing's were very erratic and it finally disintegrated amongst the rhubarb! Peter S.

Hi Guys, There seems to be quite an excited discussion on childhood toys in the thread of pics.!!! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifShould we include fotos and discussion of all sorts of toys in the thread Is that a good idea, Roger ?? Hi Marianne, Yes, that would have been preferable but it's a bit late now. As we are in an off-topic section of the forum, it isn't so important. The reason we prefer to stay fairly strictly on topic when discussing Hayley (and other artists) is so we can locate information at a later date, and for the sake of continuity. That need is less likely here. You are quite right though, it would have been better to keep this as a thematic photography thread. Roger

Great pictures everyone; it is really interesting to look back into these different time periods. I've already commented on some of them in the photography thread so I will skip right to Belinda's pictures. Belinda I love your back yard. Grant great pictures as well.
I got a couple of 1980's pictures of myself that my mom had duplicates of (so she was willing to let me take them). When I get to my apartment sometime later this week I will post them.

Graeme,
Just noticed your post in the photography thread; I figured my answer would fit better here. I actually do have my digital camera here, but it doesn't reproduce photographs too well (I've tried before). But as I posted earlier I was able to get a couple of the pictures, which I will post later this week.
Thanks for the advice,
Katie

Hi Katie, Good to get the originals. If I may say one thing further & it's one of the many things I've learnt by bungling it first. You quite likely know this already but others might not: Any scanner will have a resize function. Say you scan a postage stamp, well the postage stamp will be something like 25mm x 36mm. Your finished scan will be also 25mm x 36mm. But if you want to see the postage stamp screen size say 500 pix wide x whatever deep, you are going to have to enlarge your resulting image by, in this case 497 percent. Usually the scanner controls express that in percent. And as you can see the image is fine & perfectly readable. Graeme

Comet I never had a JETEX engine - my Dad was a Rolls Royce fireman and banned them!! I did once build a kielcraft Hurricane (built out of balsa wood and tissue paper) which flew when you wound up the rubber band. On its second flight I wound it to tightly and the whole thing disintegrated in my hands!! Grant

Also known as the "bubble" car. Sadly, it would never pass today's safety tests! You say that the photo was taken just before your new house was built. Must have been very cramped living in that car. Best Wishes Martin

Well I don't know what I'm letting myself in for but here goes!! Fast asleep in my pram at 6 months - despite being a boy, I was dressed in pink!! The birthday party of the "happy" little girl on the left. It's 1953 and the little basket of fruit I'm holding was in fact soap - I wasn't amused! Aah! This one - a school photo when I was 9. I thought my fringe was a little long so trimmed it myself! C'mon Hayley, your turn!!Grant

Hi Martin,
Yes it was a Messerschmitt and we did call it a "bubble" car. If i remember rightly there was handle bars for a steering wheel and one driver seat and one passenger seat , Haha,I should have said photo taken in front of old house before new house built, The water behind the cars is the water you see up in the pic in the forum header, not the beach side but the other, Belinda

Caption for above photo: "Grant demonstrates his versatility by balancing a tiny hat on his head whilst holding a basket of soap" i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI like the pink dress in the baby photo but perhaps Roger is better qualified to comment than I. Great photos (those happy days). Martin
