I'm sure Roger will ensure we are all in the right place! Peter Tallest at the back and shortest at the front- that way everybody will be able to see both Hayley and the camera! I thought we'd gone off topic a bit here- but somehow I've just mentioned a camera! Maybe we should let the photos do the talking from now on here! EEK! I'm late for church- it's 5 mins walk down the road... Better go! Regards, Andrew

Hi Caite... I love your photo of the timeless window. What marvellous sunsets must have once filled its panes. Joe

Hi all! Well, we seem to have a few days before the intensity of we Brits ourselves being once more able to write up our real life experience of Hayley performing on her second home ground! I had thought of creating a new thread, 'Photography, My Best Picture', titled that way so it could be found next to this original thread. Then I decided i was presuming upon Caite's original idea, who started this thread. So I simply make the suggestion and leave her to create it and the mods to realign if she asks. The reason? I initially joined in on this thread with a URL to a range of pictures which i had taken over a period of weeks for the specific purpose of promoting my home town. It occurs to me I really should not be so bone-idle and decided to offer what i thought was my best picture, or what pleased me most out of that selection. Hence the thought for a sub thread. Here it is: Now some ten years old, on film and probably automatic, though occasionally over-ridden and no, I'm afraid I just take them! I don't take notes of exposure or stop! Is it possible for photographer's to have a 'best picture'? Does it depend on the mood at the time, the area, the timing, or the technical merits? This one shows two of the changes we group of rebels, who took over the town council, created for posterity. We raised the funding through horticultural benefactors given the opportunity to advertise and the community services (court determined noncustodial sentences) for labour to plant the daffodils throughout the length of the canal through the town, while the towpath was relaid along the same length professionally, through a community partnership funding project we created with town, borough and county councils and British Waterways. The intention was to encourage the use of the canal towpath rather than the High Street for both cycling and walking and that has proved a considerable success, taking people away from the traffic fumes and re-opening the town's second main thoroughfare. The first was a Roman Road, Watling Street, now the High Street and the second was th arrival of the canal 150 years ago, nearly. Another idea comes to mind, as either a second idea or an alternative thought, why not a thread called 'Photography, My Home Town'. Would that not be of interest to our diverse international audience, during periods of Hayley's quiet times? I just refrained from calling her quiet periods her 'resting time'. Hayley would only rest as rest, never as a euphemism for not working! Now, TOTALLY OFF TOPIC, except we're in an 'off-topic board...the Royal Horticultural Show has opened today (Preview day) at Chelsea and (I missed her name, sorry) they are currently showing a garden designed by a Kiwi who drew her inspiration from the west coast of North island, where everything looks as Captain Cook would have known the whole of New Zealand.. Superb countryside! Three Cheers for the Kiwis! Peter

Peter Hi Peter, I thought I would mention that the order in which threads appear in any given board is determined by the date of the most recent post thereto. Consequently, their order is constantly changing. The only exception is those threads which have a "sticky" which keeps them at the top of the board regardless of the date of posting. They cannot be realigned at will by the moderators. This seems to be a very popular thread (thanks Caite!) but I think one on the subject of photography will suffice. Roger

Roger Thanks for that technical update. The disadvantage is when looking to see if a thread exists when one has an idea, to prevent duplication, it is devilishly difficult. However, it seems the mood is not to create any subthreads. Fine. At least I asked first before ploughing ahead! Peter

Is it possible for photographer's to have a 'best picture'? Does it depend on the mood at the time, the area, the timing, or the technical merits? I think a photographer's "best picture" depends on quite a fwe things. I know for my dad (who is a photographer...but technology challenged so he sticks with his 35mm) his best picture has changed throughout the years. To him his best picture may simply be the best memory, but to someone else the best picture may depend on the subject, or how it is technically. To me, some of my dad's best photos are ones I know the subjects of and have brilliant colors in them. Over the years the best picture is bound to change. Your opinions will be different, and you'll have other pictures you like better. The best picture to you is bound to be just a picture to someone else because there's something connecting you to the "best picture." Does that make any sense? <3 Caite

George- I forgot to mention in my last post that your photos are brilliant! I recognized a few of the places or at least I thought I did! Hope you had a great trip. Now, who says you can't have a little fun in your photo taking? Or using old toliets! Near my dad's house this man had a broken toliet and as a joke he put it outside his house and planted flowers in it. Overnight he had three more toliets appear. So the next day he planted flowers in those too. Soon this mans yard became the place to dump old toliets and a great photo opportunity!! <3 Caite

Thank you Caite and Roger! I'm not a horticultural expert, but are the flowers loopins by any chance? Trying to think of a witty comment nearly drove me round the bend! Richard
