This is my back garden in West Sussex. Imagine relaxing here and listening to Odyssey on a CD walkman! I don't have to imagine..... Roger

Very nice Roger , It would make a great location for one of Hayley's videos. You must certainly be green fingered, especially to keep the garden in such an immaculate condition. Emmett

Hello Roger! That is a very nice garden you've got there. I won't show you a picture of mine, but if you ever change your job and become a gardener...!!! Never mind, I've just had a good idea. I'll buy a CD walkman and listen to "Odyssey" in Kew Gardens. The Palm House is nice and warm during the winter without being too hot. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBest Wishes from London, Richard

That is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Emmet's right, it would be perfect for one of Hayley's videos. Wow! I have never seen a garden like that. How much time do you spend on it every day? It looks like something from a story book.

Hi someone and Emmett, Thank you both for the compliments. It's a lovely thought, Emmett but Hayley wasn't in my garden when that pic was taken! I'll have to work on that! Lol Someone, the time I spend out there each week varies enormously. The short answer is, not as much as I should! The part you see in those shots only shows about a quarter of the whole area, all of which I designed to suit my own needs. Every tree, shrub, and flower was planted by me between about 1982 and 2000. Since then, I have stopped planting (because I have run out of space!) and maintained what I have. It is relatively low maintenance because the many shrubs make good ground cover so the weeds don't grow. That's the theory anyway! Thanks for taking a look. Roger

Hello Roger, What a lovely back garden you have! I bet it looks lovely the entire growing season. I have a forest garden - a new concept in which I try and recreate a forest. I've got pine and maple trees, shrubs, groundcovers etc that one might find walking in a forest. It's quite small...something like 10 by 12 feet and the trees are less than 20 ft high. It's quite nice and relaxing really.

How do you keep it in order? I expect it must take hours!

Hi everyone,
Many thanks for the continued compliments!
Joe, I love the idea of your "forest" garden. I am amzed that it can be achieved in such a small area. What are they, bonsai trees? Lol Perhaps someday you can show us a picture of it?
Cathleen, If Hayley ever does a concert here, you and everyone wlse will be invited!
Portia, yes it does take many hours.... if I let it! To be honest, not every part of the garden looks well tended all of the time. That would be impossible, but everything gets done sooner or later in turn. There are parts of the garden where it is particularly nice to sit and so they tend to take priority but those favoured places vary a little thoughout the year.
It is hot and sunny today so I better go and cut a hedge or something!

Here is a little ditty that I put together whilst sitting in the garden. (I think I may once have posted it to the group so my apologies to anyone who has read it before!) WHOSE GARDEN?
Come and see my garden And walk awhile with me Amid a sea of bluebells Beneath the apple tree.
Spring flowers all around us In borders, beds and pots. Daffodils and tulips And wild forget-me-nots.
And here and there primroses Brighten up the way, And soon, a greater splendour As April leads to May. Mighty rhododendrons; Bright colours everywhere, The beautiful azaleas Whose perfume fills the air.
Laburnum flowers cascading Like drops of golden rain. Come and see my garden And walk with me again.
Cherry trees in blossom Heralding the spring. Where the robin rests awhile And then begins to sing:
“Come and see my garden With every kind of weed. All growing wild and rampant And scattering their seed. Columbine and bramble Running wild and free. A man works hard to clear them But they don’t bother me!” It's a bit like that at times! Roger

Hi Roger, I gave the wrong size on my forest garden, it's 12 by 17 feet. It's fenced in to keep the animals out. I transplanted most of the trees from some nearby woods about five years ago; plus I trim the trees in the autumn (also they get in the way of the clothesline). Yes, when I get a digital camera in a few weeks I'd love to show you how it all looks Do you also have a vegetable garden as well? Take care, Joe

Hi Joe,
No, I don't have a vegetable garden any more. There is only me and my aging mother (89) living here and it seems hardly worth the time and effort for the two of us. The part that used to be vegetable garden was grassed over years ago. I derive more satisfaction from growing flowering shrubs and a few ornamental trees even if I do have to buy vegetables from the supermarket!
