Ah, the days of "victory gardens" when everyone tried to grow their own veggies to keep the Allies supplied

Hi Joe, Congratulations on you acquisition of a digital camera - just in time to take some of Hayley! Your pictures and your garden look great. I particularly like the witch hazel; something I always meant to get but never got around to it. It appears to be the pale form, Hamamelis mollis pallida which tends to produce more flowers than the "normal" variety. (?) Last week, I dug out a lot of tired old heathers so I now have some space. I feel a trip to the garden centre coming on! Thanks for sharing the pictures with us. Roger

On the subject of successful gardening, I am pleased to report that my lawn is now dead ! Maybe it heard my jokes, anyway that'll save me mowing it for the next few weeks ! Down here on the south coast it was hotter than Bermuda yesterday. Beats me why people want to go abroad ! Last time it was as hot as this they were building the Titanic. Mind you, next year there was plenty of ice around !

Hello Jeff,
Congratulations on your lawn! It probably looks like straw! My grandfather puts table salt on his lawn...he doesn't fancy mowing it either.
Cheers, Joe

One day before the start of December, I was amazed to see a rose in full bloom in my garden ! Is this a record ? Must be the mild weather. Shouldn't speak too soon. Probably get snow next week !

Hi Jeff,
Sorry to dissapoint you but, no, it is not a record. I once had some floribunda roses in full bloom on Christmas Day. And no, they were not hellebores (Christmas roses)!

Anyone hoping to do some gardening this bank holiday is going to be disappointed.........rain is forecast ! My fault entirely. I've just bought a sun-lounger !! (It was called Westonrelaxer so with a name like that, how could I resist ! ) I'll just have to stay indoors and read my June edition of the Classic FM magazine with our Hayley on the front and inside).

Hello Joyce,
We would love to see photos of your garden!
Here in Pennsylvania, our trees finally have leaves! In my garden, I have a brick fireplace which I just took down and reconstructed last weekend. I'll take some pics of my forest garden.
