Exactly Comet! I took voluntary severance and early retirement just over five years ago, so now I'm permanently on holiday without having to go anywhere! Best Wishes, Richard

Hi Richard and Comet! I took the "sponsored walk" in 1996 so I'm also on permanent holiday, though nowadays I don't know how I found time to go to work! As for having holidays, I might have been able to afford one but I keep spending my money on concert tickets and overnight stays because of a certain Hayley Westenra! There's also that little blue button on Ebay. Drat! there goes another one! Holidays! Who want holidays - I'd much rather have "Hayleydays!! Best wishes Grant

Hi all you envious people!
comet's right. There's no need to envy those going on holidays.
Who needs holidays, if one is contented and secure at home. Much more relaxing than travelling.
To adapt a phrase, 'Holidays are where the heart is'. So take time out - whether at home or away.
Regards, Paddy
Still, it's great to explore new places sometimes.

Hi Stephany,
As predicted, the rain came but 'Summer Rain' (Where did I hear that before?). Plenty of sunshine tomorrow (We hope).
I live in Ashford (a bit less than 50km south of Dublin). Maybe your tour will take you south from Dublin. If so, let me know.
'Hope you get that Guinness - an acquired taste. Don't like it myself. 'Kilkenny' is the best beer there is, I think. Pity many bars do not have it on tap.
Hopefully, your group will visit 'Temple Bar'. Great fun there, especially at night.
Enjoy, Paddy

Hi Grant and Richard,
Just when I was beginning to feel old(ish) on this site, you mentioned 'taking the sponsored walk', 'voluntary severance' and 'permanently on holiday'
I'm taking the 'high road' too this year. I'm neither sad nor glad to bid farewell. Just seems natural to move on ...
Continued happy retirement to you both.
I hope to be very busy too.
Best Wishes,
Paddy

Maybe it just means you are in fact happy and content with where you are, rather than constantly searching for that far away green hill. and if you are content, why bother with all the grief of going on holidays as they can be even more stressful than your ordinary stressful life. If you get my drift.. Hi Comet... This is true...it's either worrying about booking overnght accomodation or dealing with mad daytrippers. Expensive dinners and rental cars too. Oh and there's all the mail etc and bills to deal with when you get home. As Dorothy said "there's no place like home". Sorry if I put anyone off their holiday. Wow...very nice spots to travel to, Roger! Joe

The main problem I see about going on vacation is the fact that if you're away for more than a few days, you need a week to catch up with the posts on this Forum! Best wishes Grant

you guys are funny and very lucky. Everything here is days away. You'll are within hours of many countries. I have been to Canada, but it almost does not count as a different country. I have in my short lifetime(compared you guys) been to all but 8 states in the us. But work and lack of funds have keep me from vacations in many years.
All the best! James

Hi James,
I think you're also very lucky - all those states to visit. They each seem to me almost like seperate 'countries', with distinct lifestyles.
But how would I know - I've only been to two or three US states and Canada. Wouldn't mind going back again soon. Al least you can depend on a sunny summer every year, unlike Ireland.
Best Regards,
Paddy

Hi all,
September is a great time to take your holiday or vacation. The weather is still quite warm and kids are back at school.

On vacation since the end of 1999, seems like a long time ago, I hardly remember what I did! I do some parttime stuff that doesn't involve getting out of bed before 8am, or interfere with Hayley trips......TimJ

Well, I'll throw my two cents in..
I was planning on seeing some friends in Texas for a week in November, but that was hinged on my new house being ready for October.. now it looks like it'll be November, so I'll probably push Texas back until January
Also planning on going home to NZ over Easter for a couple of weeks.. especially as Warbirds over Wanaka is on over Easter weekend, and I can spend the rest of the time back in Christchurch relaxing at my parents' place
