Hayley Westenra joins prominent women backing WEN Photo opportunity: 2.45pm Wednesday 28 February 2007, The Women’s Library, Old Castle Street, London E1 7NT. Hayley Westenra and other WEN matrons Maria Adebowale, Jo Fairley, Sandra Gidley MP and Emily Thornberry MP (TBC) meet for the first time at WEN AGM. Young singer Hayley Westenra has become a ‘matron’ of Women’s Environmental Network, using her growing public profile to help boost membership of the charity. She will meet fellow matrons for the first time at WEN’s AGM next Wednesday, 28 February 2007. The event, also a chance for trustees, staff, volunteers and members to ‘meet the matrons’, is being held at The Women’s Library in Old Castle Street, London E1. www.wen.org.uk/general_pages/Newsitems/pr_AGM_26.2.07.htmAfter Hayley's comments on BBC this morning we may see her cycling from W4 to E1.

Hi Drew, Thank you for posting that Article on Hayley and WEN. I was not aware of that Organization until Hayley mentioned iton BBC Wales. I won't join though, being a thoroughly low profile person !!! Love, Marianne

Hi Drew I would have thought that Hayley would want this event to be treated as a private matter rather than a photo session. So discretion might be the best approach. Best Wishes Martin

Hi Martin,
WEN have put out a press release about this event. In doing so they are inviting the press and public to attend. It is obviously in WEN's interest to maximise their publicity through Hayley's involvement. If this was a private meeting we would know nothing about it.
The very nature of the organisation dictates that their causes are given high profile - that's how they hope to make a difference.

Thanks Stuart, If you (all) read the Press Release (link on my first post) you will see that it mentions Treasure and links back to www.hayleywestenra.com. This is a win win situation. The more that people hear about Hayley's involvement, the more people will sign up to the petition for George Bush. The more people that hear about Hayley's involvement, the more people will buy Treasure. WEN is associated with (UK) Womens' Institute and WI have 215,000 members. That is a lot of signatures and a lot of CDs. We know Hayley and I am sure that Hayley is doing this for all the right reasons. She has been involved with WEN for several months now. I am happy to support UNICEF but feel that is inappropriate for me to sign up with WEN (but I shall add my name to the petition).

Hi all Just got back from covering the photoshoot at WEN's headquarters in Aldgate East, London. Hayley met me in the foyer of the Women's Library and she then went outside for some shots of her - some of them riding a bike! It was cold and blowy but Hayley did magnificently. Here are a few pictures and more to come later. Stuart

Here are some shots on the bike. Hayley told me that the last time she was on a bike was in Ghana and she fell off! I love this photo! Stuart

Hi Folks and Stuart, Lovely photos as usual, another wall with character in the background. does Hayley deliberately choose walls like this to be in the background or is it just random chance that they are there. Going back to some of the photos at the start of her musical career there seem to be unusual, weathered and damaged walls in the background also the cover of Treasure and she often places her hand against them as if "picking up their story" comet

Nice pics! Hayley doesn't look the least bit "matronly" next to the other women.

Very nice photo's. It's so great that although Hayley is busy promoting her new album and perming with Celtic Woman, she still has concern for her friends in London and the Organisation she has become part of. We applaud Hayley for keeping her feet firmly on the ground... or two wheels! How many other superstars do you know that have three best selling albums, and then still move around their daily business and ride a bike through london! We wish Hayley all the best in the future and all her formal events! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Great pictures Stuart - I particularly like the last one although I have to say I don't think I have ever seen anyone looking less matronly. Keep up the good work Hayley!! (Wish I'd come down myself now! ) Grant
