There are three Hayley songs I would like to hear again now - none of which are on this poll. All I Ask of You I Dreamed a Dream Somewhere - There's a Place for us.... Jon Hi Jon There is a good chance that the third of these will be performed at the Woburn concert in July when Hayley sings the part of Maria in the West Side Story item. It will also certainly be recorded and aired later on Classic FM Radio (and maybe even a cd). Martin

Hi Martin & All, The one I most am struck with is Romanza which is not on this poll. My question to Hayley in the question and answer session at Readings Melbourne was: Hayley, are you ever likely to sing Romanza again? (click here for more info) Most of us will have a video clip of the song from 2002 ....its really something special. (its beginning & end are missing) Graeme .....But back to this poll 'Pie Jesu' would be my immediate choice & my video clip of that song shows it to have been sung on the same day in 2002 as Romanza.

Hello everybody! I voted for 'Memory' this time. It's definitely one of my favourites on the album 'Hayley Westenra', and I would love to hear her sing it again now her voice has developed. Best Wishes, Richard

While this would not be a 're-recording', so far as I know, I'd love to hear Hayley sing 'Pokarekareana' IN ENGLISH. While I've seen English translations of 'Pokarekareana', I've never heard of anyone singing it in English. Maybe someone else has? Does anyone know of an English version to suit the music? Looking forward to Hayley's Dublin concert next week. Best wishes to all - experts and newcomers, like myself. Paddy

Hello Paddy! You might be interested to know that Rolf Harris recorded 'Hurry Home', based on 'Pokarekare Ana', back in 1968. Somehow I can't imagine Hayley with a beard and a wobble-board! Best Wishes, Richard

Hi Steve, Stephany and Richard,
Thank you all for sharing your wisdom. I see you've also made comet's day. Hi, comet. See you in NCH.
Haven't succeeded yet in playing or downloading it. Keeps saying 'network error'. Will have to learn Maori. Any of you speak it?
My daughter says that an Irish hymn she heard, 'A Mhuire, a Mhathair', is sung to the air of 'Pokarekareana'. Not sure but what she remembers of it does sound like 'Pokarekareana'. Maybe comet , being a Senior (Irish) Member, can confirm? I wonder am I first to put a few Irish words on HWI?
Very best regards to you all.
Paddy

Hello Paddy! Your daughter is correct. Here is an extract from a very long article about 'Pokarekare Ana':- folksong.org.nz/pokarekare/index.htmlHayley might like to record that version. Best Wishes, Richard

Hi Richard,
When I mentioned 'wisdom', I really should have used a much stronger word. 'Guru' is the best I can think of now! I marvel at your vast knowledge.
Thank you for the info - so fast on the draw also. What name for a wise guru who is so fast?
My daughter will be delighted that she recognised the air immediately.
Will we have the pleasure of meeting you in the NCH on Wednesday?
Very best regards,
Paddy

Hi Folks. This may well explain my initial confusion on hearing Pokarekare Ana recognising it but not understanding how I had heard it. There are also some very similar parts in Hine e Hine. I was more likely to have been listening to T Rex and the Beatles in 1970 than hymns but I was only a little tiddler then.. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifcomet

Hi comet, My daughter heard the hymn in the Gaeltacht in Connemara. Maybe little comet was there in the 70s. Paddy
