Hi Miriam Its good to see you posting A warm "official" welcome to the forum. I didn't know that you are a kiwi yourself. I would agree with you that Hayley's Maori songs are always favourites of mine. E Pari Ra, being one of my 3 favourites from Treasure. To me, these songs are "Hayley's songs" not done by anyone else and very special . Regards Mark.

Hi Roger and Mark I am sorry to take so long to reply to you! Yes, my Mum is a Kiwi - and a very proud one - she loves New Zealand (all the family do, it is also my favorite place in the world) and we all call it our real home, however we do not live there now as Dad is English and for the foreseeable future his work is here. We all really hope to one day be able to move there for good though! I have never been to Hayley's hometown as Mum is from the North Island but Mum has been there and thinks it really beautiful! Miriam xxx

I voted for "All of the Above." I've owned "Wiegenlied" for the last two years and was completely impressed (as always) by her delivery. The Japanese version is the most interesting. "Wiegenlied" is now sold at Amazon as "Mozart's Lullaby." I had to order it from Amazon.co.jp In English. Not mentioned as a choice (probably because she sings only about two lines in the language) is Portuguese, the odd language one hears in part of "One Fine Day" in both "Treasure" and "Celtic Treasure." (She only mispronounces "querida" by putting the accent on the wrong syllable, but if she were to have pronounced it correctly the song wouldn't have sounded as good). I suppose that falls under the classification of poetic license.

Hey,
I've just noticed that Elvish is on the list. Words fail me, so could someone please explain?!

Grant (and others),
"Wiegenlied" is available at Amazon under the name "Mozart's Lullaby [Import]."

I voted for Maori because she has so much experience singing it. I however, am no judge of how it is supposed to sound. I can evaluate her German - which at times sounds clearer to these American ears than her English Jon

Thomas, aren't you a little biased ? Well ... maybe? I really like her to sing Maori songs and that would have been my decision without being biased. But what if Hayley comes along this thread and sees that nobody voted for the German language? I would like her to continue to sing in German. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifThomas

So there you have it: Maori is by far the best language for Hayley's singing. Which is a shame, really, because the Maori songbook doesn't seem to go very far after Pokarekara Ana, Hine e Hine and E Pari Ra. But I have an idea! Hayley should commission a whole slew of new songs in that tongue so she can continue to do what she does best, which is sing in Maori. Surely there are some talented songwriters up for the challenge, yes?

Thanks Steve, I'd forgotten about that poll! I am surprised English only got one more vote than Elvish! It seems to me that many people may have voted for the language of their favourite Hayley song... even if she has only recorded one, two or three songs in that language! My own choice, well down the poll, was English because in general I like to listen to and understand the lyrics but I still love most of the "foreign language" songs Hayley has done. Could the member who voted Elvish (or anyone) remind me which song(s) that was? Ooops, found in the thread above! Cheers, Dave
