1. Dark Waltz ... I also love the high note she does when she sings 'Turning me into the light'. It's the most beautiful song she has ever done.I couldn't agree more! Did you read my remarks on this thread's first page? I couldn't agree less! When she sings the little "Oooh" after the first "Heaven, heaven" it has THE most stunning vibrato I've ever heard in my life... and she's not even known for her vibrato..

Hey Steve,
No, I hadn't read the first page! But I just did and noticed how much alike our top five is! Scary!
As for 'Heaven', I just listened to the said part and the vibrato was very subtle. Didn't do much for me. The most beautiful vibrato I have hard is either Delta Goodrem or Lauren Waterworth (did a classical/traditional album very much like Hayley did, but she was only 14 at the time, a voice that needs to be heard to be believed, I think the album was called 'Beyond Her Years', which is an as accurate description of her voice as much as 'Pure' was accurate for Hayley!)

Hey Nicola: Let’s turn this into “I agree with Steve” week. I (Steve) agree with you completely on Dark Waltz and I agree with Steve M. on both Dark Waltz and Heaven. Steve M. seems to have the same reactions that I do to certain of Hayley’s lyrics – we reacted identically to her pronunciation of the word “light” in “Dark Waltz,” and I too feel a shiver when she does that “Oooh” in Heaven. It must be a Steve thing (or a guy thing). Anyway, Heaven aside, what you say about Dark Waltz is all true. I think the Decca/Universal folks should have released it as a single rather than “Wuthering Heights,” which though Hayley pulled off stunningly well, invited the inevitable Kate Bush comparisons. And for Kate Bush fans, Hayley’s cover was worse than mehish. Also, as I recall, I think you once said that one of the charms of Pure as an album was that the songs for the most part seemed new, or at least relatively fresh. This was one of the magical things about Pure for me. Hayley was able to find songs that were relatively undiscovered, yet melodic and delightfully satisfying. This is probably a harder combo to pull off than I initially realized, and it is in part what makes Pure such a special event.

I was lucky enough to find the Pure album today, had a quick listen to it, love it, naturally, and now I'm enjoying it thoroughly again! There was, however, one small hitch. While copying the songs on to my computer I mixed up all the songs and their names! So now I have no clue what song I'm really listening to! For instance, I'm listening to a song I know - Pokarekare Ana - but the name says Heaven! It's very muddled and confusing . But I'll give a shot at what my five are (or what I guess are their proper names): Pokarekare Ana, Never Say Goodbye, Hine E Hine, River Of Dreams, Across The Universe Of Time.
