I admit I am baffled. Now, you wouldn't want a baffled Administrator, would you? So help me out here, folks... Pure has been my all-time favourite album ever since I bought it in October 2003 until the release of Treasure. Despite that, there were always two tracks on which I was not particularly keen. What baffles me is that, time and time again, they are named as people's favourites. Now, it has happened again. They are 'Heaven' and 'Dark Waltz'. Don't get me wrong, I don't exactly dislike them but they are definitely my least favourite two tracks on the album. My question is, why do many people rate them so highly? Or, why do I like them less than all the other tracks on the album? Someone unbaffle me, pleeeease! Roger

Hi Roger Are you sitting comfortably? Because I have to admit that Dark Waltz is probably my favourite on Pure also. It has a hypnotic feel to it, wonderful melody, is superbly orchestrated and it suits Hayley voice and phrasing to a tee. Perhaps it is because it is so different to anything else she has done that it stands out for me. With regards to unbaffling you then I believe collonic irrigation works wonders!! Martin

Talk about an inauspicious beginning…in my first major post I name my favorite two songs on Pure and they turn out to be the head honcho’s least favorite. I’m sure glad this wasn’t a job interview.
I could go on about how that’s what makes horse races, and how music’s such a personal thing, but those are obvious. I look forward to hearing what others have to say. I suspect Roger you’ll have more people agreeing with you than you might have guessed...although apparently not Martin.

Hi Roger,
Im with you on Dark Waltz but I do like Heaven but it's not in my top 5. These are, in rank order:
1. Who Painted the Moon Black 2. Pokarekare Ana 3. Beat of your Heart 4. Across the Universe ofTime 5. Never Say Goodbye
Have you asked yourself what you dont like about these two tracks?
Stuart

Don't worry about the head honcho, I'll keep him in line! and for what it's worth, Dark Waltz is one of my favourite tracks on Pure and Heaven is one that I like, too! But I differ from many long standing Hayley fans in that I'm not too keen on Wuthering Heights - except when i'm watching the unreleased video of it or I'm in a certain mood. I am baffled that Roger is baffled that so many of us love Dark Waltz! Does that baffle anyone else? Cheers, Dave

Thanks Dave...I feel better already. I think the sheer audacity of Hayley's Wuthering Heights is one of the things that does it for me. In contrast, it makes the rest of the album seem even...purer. Now, tell me more about this unreleased video

As for myself, I really can't decide yet. I have listened to "Pure" many times but not THAT many to pick five favourite tracks - as I truly love all of them. I never skip a track.
How do you select five when all are E-X-C-E-P-T-I-O-N-A-L ?
But "Accross the universe of time" is one of the first Hayley songs I've ever listened to and I think it is simply gorgeous so maybe I would pick this one in my top 5. I also love all Maori songs although I still have no clue what she's singing about.

Hi Stephany, The lyrics of 'Pokarekare Ana', and a translation, appear HERE. Those of 'Hine e Hine' are HERE. We haven't yet seen a translation of 'E Pari Ra' but, when we do, we will add them to the site. Roger

Thanks for the lyrics, Roger and Richard. I can now fully enjoy her maori songs. And like them even better (how is that possible?).

Easy question. 1. Dark Waltz 2. Beneditictus 3. Across the Universe of Time 4. Wuthering Heights 5. Who Painted the Moon Black Hey Roger, Dark Waltz is my favourite lyrically and melodicly. I love the waltz theme running around it (especially at the end when she sings 'Let the dark waltz begin/Oh let me wheel let me spin'. It's like a dark twisted version of the original. I also love the high note she does when she sings 'Turning me into the light'. It's the most beautiful song she has ever done. Across the Universe of Time has beautiful lyrics too (and of course, written by wonder composer Sarah Class). That song inspired my poetry for a while. I'm not one to have ever understood Heaven. Nice theme and all, just a bit... mehish...

What do you mean by 'Heaven' being "mehish"?
I left 'Abbey Road' for Hayley's 'Heaven' a long time ago... i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

'Meh' is just an audio way of shrugging your shoulders. It means I have no opinion on it, it's not great, it's not bad either.
