Joe had a good idea with a duet with Sting... that guy rocks...
Alternately, I'd have to say something original... I think its time for Hayley to step up and see how she fares with her own material, her own words...
The girl is brilliant... so lets encourage her to shine...

The two songs that would like to hear Hayley sing were done by the late Lorraine Hunt Lieberson (an amazing mezzo soprano) in a live concert I happened to catch on the radio. One of these songs has been released on CD by Lieberson but it extremely hard to get and one hasn't been released so I am still looking for a versions that are as good as hers. I am sure Hayley can live up to this, though I'm sure they would be unique since her voice would be different.
The songs are:
Deep River (was previously mentioned on this thread, but was a different version)
Calling You (from the movie Baghdad Cafe--a good movie, the version on the soundtrack to this movie is good, though Lieberson's version of this was REALLY good). If Hayley rearranged this song to fit her voice it could be really good.

Well, this is easy. All I want of Hayley and any artist is to sing original songs! Or, songs already done but given an entirely different interpretation. 'What you never know' was the beginning of such a trend. Have any of you heard Vanessa Mae's "I'm A Doun"? It's fantastic piece. I would like Hayley to make a song out of it. Instead of Vanessa's violin; have Hayley singing in its place. That would be one hell of a song. I'm a Doun is a really emotive piece with a beautiful melody, Hayley would do wonders with it.

Hi folks !
I would like to hear Hayley sing O Caritas written by Cat Stevens.
But I would listen to Hayley sing her way through a phone listing if thats what she wanted to do.
Just keep making those recordings we will probably still be listening to them in years to come.
Go girl go !

I think she would do a beautiful performance of "Quia respexit" from Bach's Magnificat in D. I agree with Comet - anything she sings is fine with me!

I discovered Hayley Westenra accidentally while surfing around on Youtube. I saw a link to O Mio Babbino Caro being sung by this stunningly beautiful young woman. When I clicked on the link, I heard a voice that was so unearthly pure that I had to investigate her other videos. In reading further about her, I was also impressed with her humility, maturity, and sense of humanity…all unusual traits for someone her age who has been thrust into the spotlight. From then on, I was hooked!
My musical tastes are very eclectic, but my heart has always been with classical. I would love to hear Hayley do some “hardcore” classical. I think she has a voice especially well suited to the “bel canto” baroque style. For those unfamiliar with Bach’s 51st cantata, it has a daunting soprano part that few singers can manage to bring off well. I have no doubt that Hayley could do the work justice…and then some.

Hello Rogead, and welcome to our forum! I would also like to hear Hayley sing some baroque songs, perhaps in the style of Dame Emma Kirkby. One song that might suit Hayley's voice particularly well is Thomas Arne's 'Where The Bee Sucks', with lyrics from a Shakespeare play. I hope you will enjoy your visits here, and I'm looking forward to your future posts. Best Wishes from London, Richard

I would love Hayley to sing 'Fear' by Sarah McLachlan. Everyone raves about her 'Angel' but I think 'Fear' is so much more haunting and distinctive. It possibly has one of the best choruses I've heard. But that's my humble opinion. I have found a link to the song. The chorus comes in at about 50 seconds. Unfortunately I only found one that is set to Star Wars. So if you like Star Wars, I guess it's a bonus! I don't know how Sarah sings that high! www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_RoDm27WQgIf 'Fear' fails, then Hayley should do what everyone else does and cover her 'Angel'. Lol. Edit: typos
