Yes, thanks for the link, Raymond. The News page on hw.com says: "Hayley's new video to 'Both Sides Now' has just been finished and it is absolutely stunning!!" We are then offered a thirty second clip. So where is the full version going to appear, I wonder?

Hi Raymond, many thanks for this information about the video of "Both Sides Now".
Sorry, but I think this is no video clip - this is recorded during Hayley was singing only. The producer made it very simple, no scenery, no background, no special music arrangement, no special video effects - nothing like this. Compare it with the video of "Pokarekare Ana" on the beach, this is a real video clip.
I honor Hayley very much as you know, but I think not all things which anybody is doing for her has sufficient quality. And we shouldn't praise anything, because it has to deal with Hayley only.
Regards, Lothar

The video is nice but so far it appears only to be a live performance as Lother said. It will be interesting to see the rest of it.

Hayley's face looks really, how shall I say it, stretched, and the angle looks a bit off. Not the best shot of Hayley's face IMO.

Hayley's face looks really, how shall I say it, stretched, and the angle looks a bit off. Not the best shot of Hayley's face IMO. The aspect ratio looks OK to me, unlike last year's Classic FM TV video (UK) of Pokarekare Ana where they (probably Classic FM) completely messed up the conversion into their broadcast format, making Hayley's face look somewhat bloated and bulbous. If low budget TV stations behave amateurishly like that, it's hard to legislate against. I think the "problem" for the critical eye this time is their use of close-ups taken from a shoulder mounted camera held physically very close to Hayley. This forced them to use a standard or wideangle lens and it's well known that these tend to be unflattering to *everybody*. It's the kind of technique that seems to have started on "hip" Saturday morning kids' programmes and now, unfortunately, its use is spreading. Call me old-fashioned if you like but I hate this and similar techniques (cameraman walking around the performer very close in, etc.). I guess people who are used to watching these kind of weird camera angles on pop music shows won't even notice it and Hayley's video, by pop standards, is pretty mild. The trouble is, most of Hayley's fans do NOT often watch pop videos (in fact, I usually turn the things off! ). Some of these modern video producers and directors seem to have forgotten the basics of photography - one of which is: don't use wideangle lenses in human portraiture and try to avoid even standard lenses (mild telephoto lenses are best for taking close-ups). Regarding the idea behind this video, I'm afraid I'm not too keen on it anyway - because Both Sides Now is one of two Odyssey tracks (out of 18 I've heard) that I would have left off all versions of the album (though it's not too bad where it is, in among the UK tracks). It's been done to death over the years, a lot of radio/TV presenters are against *any* new cover version of it before they even hear it (I've heard and read the comments), and I cannot understand why everyone close to Hayley and at Decca seems so mad keen on it - or why Hayley decided to sing it on most of the English radio stations in her recent radio tour. Why not "May It Be" as in Wales/Northern Ireland, or Prayer, Never Saw Blue etc? As for the possibility of a BSN single.. no, please no! The words may well be deep and meaningful (as indeed they are) but it doesn't alter the fact that a lot of people who matter (in the music industry) seem to be against cover versions of certain classics, of which BSN is one. Ignore the "industry" at your peril. Slightly grumpy early morning cheers, Dave

I do watch pop videos, when I unwittingly turn them on and there's nothing else to watch, and well, it's not that bad. It's just that, from my artist's point of view, a shoulder shot, coupled with no out of the ordinary settings looks jarring and out of place. It's the one oddity out of otherwise placid settings. Ouch, ouch and ouch.
I agree that Both Sides Now is not a good single, mostly because I love Joni's original version far too much. I guess they were trying to do something with Hayley's image or so. Though, the setting of the video itself is just wrong to me. Why a show? Why not a hill or something? I think it's pretty simple - far too much like Hayley's other videos.

Hm, I honestly like this video. The scenes will probably change as it goes on. And if they don't, I still think it's very simple and stylish, much like the song. And I think Hayley looks very pretty on it, too. Someone

Hi Meagan, When Hayley comes to the US next week and might appear on a few talk shows, it would be nice for her to be "re-introduced" with this video.

Hey Guys You can watch the whole video at music.aol.com. Just search "Hayley Westenra" and you can watch hayley's AOL sessions and the videos for Both sides now and Pokarakara Ana. I think everyone should be able to access it, I don't think its limited to people in North America.

Oops! It's asking for a screen name. Sorry. Go to AOL .com and search for Hayley under the "music" tab at the top.

Hello Libbs and welcome to the forum! Many thanks for the information. Here is a direct link to Hayley's page:- music.aol.com/artist/main.adp?artistid=612946Unfortunately when I tried to watch "Both Sides Now" I was denied access because I need permission to view the file, so it may only be available to view in the USA, or to people with registered accounts. Happily I could watch the other videos on the page! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif I'm looking forward to reading all your future posts. Best Wishes from London, Richard
