Hmmm, interesting video but must be honest it was a bit cheesy for me. However, I respect Hayley for doing it and she certainly wouldn't have agreed if she felt it was inappropriate. Close your eyes and listen to Helmut - he sounds like a young Elvis singing one of his early ballads. Best wishes to my peers Richard and Dave, Corporal Martin - Dads Army (or should it be Hayley's Army!!). i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Hi Gerrit! Thank you for that video! I think it's really sweet, and the song it beautiful. This style really fits Hayley's voice. I hope to hear more like it on her new album! Helmut's voice is great as well; personally, I prefer his voice over that of the other modern-day crooner, Michael Bublé. I really like the video; it has a really classic feel to it, and it's totally clean and appropriate, which I appreciate. Tashi, I kind of agree with you, though. Helmut somewhat overplayed his role as the 'love-stricken guy.' His mouth was hanging half-open the whole time! I still think it was a sweet video, perhaps a little over-acted, but by all means a keeper. Oksy

Hi Dave, I can think of two reasons why the video mightn't play properly in your Windows Media player - but both beg the question why others haven't reported that problem . 1. I have just updated to the very latest version of Windows Media Player (version 11) - and there might be a codec problem. 2. The original broadcast was actially in the wrong aspect ratio - they broadcast it in 4:3, but the original video format was 16:9, so I re-encoded it to the correct format. The broadcast looked actually quite amateurish because it was all out of proportion. Cheers, Gerrit Thanks Gerrit for this video, it was a great find. I couldn't, incidentally, view it in Windows Media player - it was totally obscured by broad diagonal stripes. But I used the freeware VLC player instead

There's now a new version of the video, and this time it is the full version. It was broadcast on New Years Day on German TV (ARD). Here is the new capture, complete with German language inroduction by Helmut: SparkleHelmut's introduction translates as follows: "Someone in love doesn't make any moves without thinking of the sparkle in the eye of the other, and with that of the secret between the two lovers: "this sparkle is only for you". I will now sing of this heavenly sentiment. And I m honoured to present this ode to love with a classical star from New Zealand. Please enjoy with me the heavenly voice of Hayley Westenra. Gerrit P.S. If you think this is a bit syrupy, it is the gist of what Helmut said.

Hi Gerrit,
I have also recorded and digitised this performance, thanks for tipping me off about it a few days before it was broadcast, much appreciated. I did not post it as I suspected that you might do and as it was you who first brought this to our attention.
Your description of the initial comments by Helmut Lotti is "syrupy" and I think this word fits the video perfectly. This is clearly not a "normal" Hayley video production and it's one of the few or only Hayley videos I'm not too keen on (though the song itself is OK.) Thanks for posting it!
Cheers, Dave

Hehe Dave, I myself wasn't all that keen on the video as such, but I think the whole Helmut Lotti show is syrupy in nature - I will post his duet with "Laura" soon. I did suspect you held off publishing your version to give me the chance to post mine . By the way, to all of you who feel that in some other threads I am quite critical of Hayley (maybe even excessively so), I do want you to know that I have been a Hayley supporter since 2001, and that I do want to continue to support her, even if I express some opinions about her quite vehemently. Sorry if some of my opinions may have offended some people, but even if Katherine hasn't quite the perfect technique of Hayley (which I think is true), I simply do prefer listening to Katherine - and I also thoroughly enjoy listening to All Angels. I simply do not get that enjoyment out of listening to Hayley at the moment . Gerrit

Hello Gerrit! Thanks for posting the duet with Laura. Is she Helmut Lotti's daughter by any chance? I prefer the duet with Hayley, but I have to admit Helmut's style isn't really to my taste! Best Wishes, Richard

This post has been moved from the 'Treasure' sub-board. Hayley's new video for Treasure?
Hey, i found this video. It's a new duet. The song is 'Sparkle' (i think...) But that song is not listed on the Treasure tracklisting. Any ideas?? She sings it beautifully though!! I have one problem: how do i attach the video here so you can all see it?!?! Dori

Hello Dori! Is the video you've found the same as the one Gerrit put up on this post? If so, it is a duet from Helmut Lotti's album 'The Crooners', and is not expected to be included on Hayley's new album 'Treasure'. Best Wishes, Richard

The song is very much in the style of what was done in American movies (and American pop music as well) of the late 30's and early 40's. If it seems syrupy now, it is because of that dislocation in time and place. I have mixed feelings about that myself - but I do have to admit that the song fits her voice like a glove. It would admittedly be better if the same could be said for Helmut...
This isnt the first time I have had the odd sense that Hayley was somehow born about 60 years out of time. If she had been around at that time, she might easily be the biggest star in the world at about this point of her career.
Syrupy or not, I found that I was able to appreciate Hayley's performance for what it was.
Jon
