Thank you very much for posting this, Roger. I certainly agree with Gerald - Paul is very talented and 300 pounds seems a minimum to acquire such a wonderful piece of art. I remember Jill saying in Bath that the painting made her think about her Mum! Stephany

Hi Roger Thanks very much for sharing Gerald's comments with us. It will be very interesting to see how much interest there will be in the painting and of course, how much money it will raise. As Stephany says, £300 should be the minimum Best regards Mark

Hi everyone. With gold leaf adornment one can understand why there was such a delay between learning it was being worked on and it being completed.
I had initial reservations about the way he had handled her hair. Then on seeing pictures of her looking at the painting I saw he had in fact got it absolutely right.
It is an excellent portrait.
Handling gold leaf takes me back to bookbinding days working in a full calf leather. Working gold leaf is a skill in itself and the last thing you want to do is sneeze at the wrong moment or have someone open a door creating a draft!

News of the painting is spreading. Here is a paragraph from an email I recieved this morning from someone who knows the subject rather well... Roger This is going to be very interesting. From artists' prices around here with whom I am familiar I would place a £500 normal selling price but the nature of the subject and it being partly for charity could put a premium of £1,000. This, however is based on knowledge were it in oils. Acrylic i personally don't like but it depends upon market awareness. Hayley cognoscenti could not afford those figures but is she widely enough known for this to be appreciated as it should--as a unique opportunity of a blossoming artist not yet fully fledged? From the viewpoint of someone with money and looking several years ahead, I could see this exceeding £1,000. Another guide to price is what the pictures on his web site sell for that are initiatives rather than commissions? Peter S.

Hi all, The more I look at the picture and at the painting, the more I think Hayley's golden dress is stunningly beautiful. I wonder why she doesn't wear it anymore? Stephany

Hi Peter, It was definitely a dress as the HWI Galleries page HERE confirm. Hi Stephany, We have only known her wear that dress on one occasion. My guess is that it may have been hired, but don't tell Hayley I said so! Roger

Hello folks! If you look closely, you will see that the dress appears to be made of gold coins. It was actually Green & Black's chocolate money, so Hayley doesn't wear the dress any more because she's eaten it! Richard
