Heh Thats fine Dave - I will tone it down for the sake of peace and amity I will only note that I simply dont waste a lot of time criticising singers I dont like - if I didnt think Elizabeth had considerable potential I wouldnt be here irritating people about her.... Jon

Wow, is all I can say. Poor Elizabeth, I guess thats what comes with being a rising star you're automatically subjected to criticism. Personally I think she has much better technique and stage presence than Hayley, I guess HW just has the advantage of being the first to do to what she's done. It must be so hard for EM to disassociate herself from the comparison to HW and forge her own career, I wish her all the best.
Just out of interest, I'd love to hear that guy above sing...

Hi Kiwigirl, My voice coach once suggested that I should sing tenor. Tenor twelve miles away from him if possible Be this as it may, Hayley is by no means the first to do this.....Adelina Patti has that distinction I suspect - all the way back in 1859 Jon

Wow, is all I can say. Poor Elizabeth ... It must be so hard for EM to disassociate herself from the comparison to HW and forge her own career, I wish her all the best. 'Poor Elizabeth' Elizabeth has nothing at all to worry about, I think! I believe she has much to offer - and in her own right. I've just got her (gold) album about two weeks ago. I really enjoy listening to her singing: - neither more nor less than listening to Hayley; - not because she looks (just a little) like Hayley; - nor because her singing is quite (un)like Hayley's. Already in her first album, she succeeds in projecting her very own presence and style and I hope (and believe) that Elizabeth will surpass (tenuous) comparisons and follow her own distinctive paths to (well-deserved) success in whatever genre(s) she will choose. So, here's one Hayley fan not blinded by comparisons but looking forward to Hayley's and Elizabeth's next albums - maybe even with duets on both! Kia Ora! Paddy

Thanks (Paddy)!
I suspect we're in for a real (and amazing) treat when Elizabeth and Hayley perform their inevitable duet in the months to come.

Hi everybody! Here's a new article about Elizabeth. She mentions the comparison with Hayley and she's also coming to the UK very soon ``The reviews have been really positive which is really nice to hear,'' she said. ``It's the most difficult time to release an album over Christmas. It was an amazing experience.'' Miss Marvelly is quick to point out, however, that she and Miss Westenra have slightly different styles. ``I'm a bit more poppy,'' she said of her music. ``I write my own music now as well.'' Two of the songs on the album were written by Miss Marvelly, and she said she really enjoyed this part of the process. Despite getting University Entrance in year 12, Miss Marvelly has decided to put any tertiary education plans on hold to pursue her dream. ``I just fell in love with music and I feel like I've been given such an amazing opportunity to follow my dreams and do what I love for a living,'' she said. ``So as long as it lasts, I'm going to keep going.'' She said since she had been in the Bay she had been recognised a few times and found it quite funny when a preschooler got excited over her in the supermarket, proclaiming, ``She's on TV!''. She said she was likely to return to Tauranga from the UK some time this year. ``Hopefully I'll be coming back for a show in the next couple of months. I'm waiting for confirmation,'' she said. Hi Roger, I hope you enjoy Elizabeth's CD when you receive it! She states that she now writes some of her own songs as though that sets her aside from Hayley. Of course, it doesn't as Hayley has been actively songwriting for a while now. Still, we won't tell Elizabeth that, eh? You are right. But I think it's great that EMI 'allowed' Elizabeth to include two of her own songs on her debut album. Who knows - it could have been risky! I remember listening to a radio interview of Elizabeth where she also mentioned another difference with Hayley. She has Maori heritage and it (apparently) influenced her work greatly. Stephany

Perhaps there is a distinction to be drawn if Elizabeth has more Maori ancestry than Hayley (who we know is 1/8). I think the Maori side of Hayley is very apparent in her songs, but that could also just be my imagination.

Roger Hi Roger. Perhaps Elizabeth meant, 'I write my own music now as well as Hayley? You'll be lucky if you get the CD soon. Mine took five weeks to arrive - by Airmail! Must have been a kiwi not an aeroplane! Paddy

Hi Steve, Hayley is 1/8th Maori??! Wow... I'd love to know your source for that one! I've done Hayleys paternal side family tree, but not her mothers... well only 2 generations on the maternal side... so I'd love to know about this! Clue me in please... best regards, Peter T. ... Hayley's great grandfather was Maori. This obscure detail has been mentioned a few times in the past, such as in this article. But to stay on topic with Elizabeth... I like how she doesn't overdue the vibrato. It's darned near perfect. She's extremely easy on the ears, which is rare for someone with her high range.

Hi everyone, Firstly, my apologies for taking so long to check back in with you all. December ended up being very hectic, but very fun too- particularly the time that I spent in Hong Kong! I've just read through this topic and I wanted to clear a few things up. I've often been told that I look like your Hayley, but I never purposely intended for us to look alike. I've never dyed my hair, and my marketing team were in fact quite wary of the comparison. I have great respect for Hayley as an artist, and would hope, like most artists, that my appearance is very much secondary to my music and performance. I'm now preparing for Aquatica '08 in the viaduct harbour as life begins to gain speed and intensity once again! Thanks again for your support, and I do hope that you all had a fantastic festive season! All the best for 2008! Elizabeth x
