Here's a short interview with Josh Groban at the premiere of Muppets Most Wanted in Hollywood: I think you can see Josh very briefly at 0:56 in the trailer: Richard

Hey yall! I went to see the new Muppet Movie... It was ok. Not as good as the last, but ok. The "full" soundtrack is available on a single YT video. Josh appears three times in the movie, all short snippets during musical numbers. The second number, "I Hope I Get It," was un-thoughtfully cut from the soundtrack. Darn. If you just want to hear Josh's part, he appears at about 9 mins in and again at 24:15. -Taylor i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

So, anyone here in the U.S. watching “Rising Star,” the new show Josh is hosting? As far as talent shows go (which we all know there are far too many of), “Rising Star” is a relatively fresh-ish breath of air. My thoughts: Good things? The voting set-up is interesting. At least 2 singers each night are quite good. Josh is a spontaneous, intelligent, and witty host / mentor / interviewer / vocal coach / counsellor. That's another thing I like: the host is more than just a talking head. All of the judges are successful musicians. Two of the judges are down to Earth and knowledgable about music. Surprisingly enough, out of all the judges, Ludacris offers the best advice. Not-So-Good things? Kesha. She's un-talented and altogether clueless. I think she might just be there for comic relief. Brad Paisley is talented, but I think he has a hard time putting his criticisms into words. The majority of the singers are not super-talented (but at least I can help pick them out). The great majority of the performers have a heart-tugging story, something I think is focused on too much by TV talent shows. There's also not that much music in the 2-hour block. Overall: Not bad as far as TV singing shows go. However, I will unashamedly say that the only reason I watch is because Josh is hosting. Which says a lot, considering I have to put up with Kesha for two straight hours. -Taylor

Hello Taylor! Here's a clip from the first show, 22 June 2014: It's not an original idea by any stretch of the imagination, but Josh Groban is infinitely preferable to Simon Cowell. Richard

Hello Taylor! Here's a clip from the first show, 22 June 2014: It's not an original idea by any stretch of the imagination, but Josh Groban is infinitely preferable to Simon Cowell. Richard Haha, you can say that again! I only watched the first show... from a hotel in Oregon, no less. I admit the reason I was interested was only because of Josh, but unfortunately I didn't find the show exciting enough to keep tuning in. It is a nice idea to have live voting by the TV audience, but this is only possible if you have a certain kind of cell phone where you can download apps. I have only ever owned 2 cell phones in my lifetime, and I've never been able, or wanted to, download an app. So, this show is basically geared to young people, as far as I'm concerned. So, it's kind of not fair to those who have an old-fashioned mind-set about current technology. I still consider a phone and a computer to be 2 separate things, and I have not and probably never will want to combine the 2 into an Iphone/smart phone, or whatever's out there these days. Also, as you say, most of the singers are boring. It was nice to see that they allow songs like Time to Say Goodbye, but that girl's version fell very flat compared to Sarah's and Hayley's versions. There were a couple notes where I kind of cringed. Not that bad, but if she's trying to be in that sort of genre, she's not going to impress people. Those who rarely listen to that might think it's good, but they also might get bored by it, too. Oh, that Jesse Kinch seen in the still of that video is the only one I found interesting that night. I haven't watched it again mainly because it slipped my mind, but once I do remember, I do not feel the desire to turn it on. After witnessing many annoyances on AI this past season, I've had about all I can handle from singing shows, so much so that I'm considering never watching AI again. I know for sure I'm going to make a point to skip the auditions next season. I do like discovering new talent; there was one girl on the show this season that I really liked (from Alabama, Taylor!). But I just don't know if I can take the judges anymore. The bias on the show was more transparent than ever this year, and the camera cuts to the judges, J Lo in particular, FAR too often. She's seen bouncing around in her seat like a teenager, and too often the close-ups are just too close, and make her eyes look scary. LOL Keith Urban is probably the best judge they've ever had on the show, but the other judges irritate me too much. Also, as you say, the sob stories get so old, I don't even care. They should be voted for based on their talent, not on how sorry people feel for them. I also hate to hear that the contestant is depending on this opportunity to give themselves a better life, but the fact remains that singers on these shows almost NEVER make it big enough to be worthwhile. I can probably count past AI winners/contestants on one hand that have been hugely successful. All of the others seem to disappear. I much prefer the So You Think You Can Dance show, and AGT. The dances are always new and exciting, and the talent on AGT is so varied that it never gets boring. Also, you can see bands or groups of singers, which you never get to see on AI.

Bob, I've done numerous things of this sort: making various requests through twitter, FB, mail, etc. I no longer have any expectations of any of it happening. I feel as though all of my efforts have all been for nothing, and I almost feel like it doesn't even matter anymore. I mean, it does, but I have to tell myself that, otherwise, I get too disappointed. I'm ready to give up on my Hayley pursuits. It's all been fruitless, and probably always will be. I made my request realizing it probably wouldn't happen, but of course you won't get anywhere if you never try anything. So, even if I still haven't gotten anywhere whatsoever with any of my efforts, I can at least say I tried. But I still feel very discouraged about it, and so now I feel like I'm done now. I still want to see Hayley in concert very much, but I doubt anything I have done or ever could do could make it more likely to happen. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, it doesn't. There's nothing I can do about it. Having said that, there are still a couple things that aren't finished yet, so the time for it to happen isn't over, it's just the likelihood just isn't there. So I don't hold out much hope for those things anymore.

Libby, I know of nobody here who has done more than you in an attempt to promote Hayley. I'm thinking of The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Peter Jackson, the Hayley thread on Josh Groban's fansite, the Official Forum, this forum, etc & etc. I don't see how you persevere. I was a bit excited at first with the Josh tweet about a duet partner. A few days ago, I wondered what had happened with that, so I began to do a little looking under Groban. He has so many irons in the fire at high levels, and with references to Barbara Streisand and Celine Dion, that I can't see him looking toward Hayley, so I have dismissed that prospect from my mind. As you say, though, no harm in trying. Please keep up your good work, and know that it is appreciated. BobS
PS - off topic. Just as I started this, I noticed your inquiry about Carina Jirsch. Check Martin's info at the bottom of the Union Chapel picture that I just posted. (Her outfit managed the Union Chapel concert.)

Check Martin's info at the bottom of the Union Chapel picture that I just posted. (Her outfit managed the Union Chapel concert.) I know Carina did the concert, I just didn't know who all the other people were (besides the obvious). Well, Josh has never recorded a song with Celine or Barbara (I don't even remember any duet with Barbara (Barbra?)). He has of course duetted with Charlotte Church, but she's a bit obscure these days herself, as far as I know. Also on his 1st CD were the Corrs (one member, at least). On his first live DVD Angie Stone did the Prayer with him. After that there were no album duets until his Christmas album Noel, on which he duetted with Brian McKnight (a David Foster artist), and Faith Hill, a famous country/pop singer in the US. He also appeared on something by Placido Domingo. I think the only way we'd get a recording of Hayley and Josh would be if he appeared on her album, not the other way around. However, that doesn't seem likely. And I have no idea how they would even manage to sing live somewhere together. But, at least we know that they admire each other's work, and have met each other, so it's not as if Josh doesn't know who she is. One problem that's causing so much discouragement for me is that although Hayley has beautiful, wonderful songs out there, they're almost all very old now, either that or material that's not really anything new to people, so it's almost as if she's not really a relevant artist for people to seek out to do things of this sort. Actually, the only thing I do still hold out a little hope for is the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. They are much more likely to choose Hayley, since they informed me she was on their list (when I wrote to them back in 2010). I sometimes wonder if it's possible that they have tried to get her on in the past, but usually she's busy that time of year, lately in Asia, and in the past, the UK, doing Christmas concerts. But one thing about them is that they seem to choose a lot of crossover artists. Not all, but quite a few. The only ones I can think of who aren't, since I've been keeping track, are Natalie Cole and David Archuletta (American Idol). David is Mormon, too, so that was probably a huge factor in choosing him, plus he does have a very good voice. Other than that, there has been Sissel, Nathan Gunn, and Alfie Boe. Last year's artist was an American opera singer I've never heard of. Oh, and Bryn Terfel was on once, too! I'm only counting the Christmas concerts, but other CC artists have sung with them before, including Katherine Jenkins, Josh Groban (on his album, too!), and Andrea Bocelli. If I had to guess, though, I would say that Jackie Evancho's turn is inevitable, since she's American and was on a talent show. But knowing that they are aware of Hayley and like her enough to consider her, is helping me at least keep my hopes up about that. But as far as Peter Jackson goes, I have strong doubts about that. There's only one Hobbit movie left, and if I go by the last 2 theme songs, the 2nd one in particular, I'm not sure whether Hayley would fit. There are 2 female elves in the story, not to mention all the male elves, so the movie isn't quite as masculine as the book. However, the movie will be about killing the dragon and the Battle of 5 Armies. There will be more emotional, dramatic parts, so it's not impossible for her voice to fit the story at all, but some are starting to wonder if, since the LOTR had all female singers, if they now want to have all male singers for the Hobbit. The 2nd song was a bad choice, imo, and I'm not alone. Ed Sheeran is a good singer and songwriter (he wrote the song right after being shown the film), but his acoustic style is just not the least bit Middle Earthy AT ALL. But anyway, none of these films, let alone the songs, have been up for any major Oscar awards, so my dream of her singing on the Academy awards like Enya and Annie Lennox did is completely dead. But to at least have her on the soundtrack, being heard in movie theaters all over the world, would still be a dream come true. Unfortunately though, I do NOT live in much hope. I had another thing going last year that I was excited about, something I made a bit of a project out of even. Although it wouldn't have been nearly as huge as the Hobbit, it stil would've been wonderful and been seen by lots of people. But I'm seeing evidence that it probably won't be this time, if ever at all. I'm not going to say what it is right now, so I don't "jinx" it (I don't really believe in that, but just in case). Maybe when I find out whether it'll happen or not, I'll tell you about it.
